We aimed to see if approach-avoidance visual experience would have different effects in the valence rating of emojis. Previous literature has shown that approach-avoidance tendencies have influences people's emotional perceptions. Up until now, research on emojis have been heavily focused on static emojis, which gives room for exploration whether if movement added on to emoji would elicit different emotional responses. In the study, we examined the impact of approach-avoidance visual experience of emojis via mobile interface, categorized into 4 experimental conditions (positive approach, negative approach, positive avoid, and negative avoid), and conducted semi-structured interviews to identify users' reasonings towards their valence ratings on specific emojis with approach or avoid movements. We found that positive approach emojis were the highest valence rating and preferred by the participants, while there were no differences between negative emoji approach or avoidance. Based on these findings, we conclude that positive emojis could be intensified to be more positive with approach motion, yet for negative emojis, individual differences or contextual differences may arise in its emotional ratings.
The golf industry has become the center of attention for recreational activities in the participant sport market; however, there has been little effort made to understand golf consumer and their consumption behavior using the concept of 'recreational specialization' which segments the golfers based on level of specialization in golf. The purpose of this study was to explore the differences in the relationships among perceived service quality, price of playing golf, overall customer satisfaction with the course, and a player's intention to revisit the same golf course based on the magnitude of recreation specialization in golf. Four public and two private golf courses from the southeastern state of the United States were randomly chosen from a list in a golf magazine. The 365 surveys among 417 participants were ultimately analyzed. Multiple group analysis was conducted in order to investigate differences in relationships among service quality, price, customer satisfaction, and revisit intentions between groups based on the level of recreation specialization. The key findings were 1) for more specialized golfers, satisfaction with price did not affect overall customer satisfaction or revisit intention, however, service quality significantly influenced both overall customer satisfaction and revisit intention, 2) for less specialized golfers, satisfaction with price significantly influenced overall customer satisfaction but did not affect revisit intention. Knowledge about which the determinants of satisfaction are different between more and less specialized golfers could provide a better understanding of how different marketing strategies should be implemented for different specialized levels of golfers.

This study examined the effects of job involvement, job stress, and organizational culture on work-life harmonization of Korean employees. The data came from 481 employees in diverse organizations located in Seouland the metropolitan area. Key findings of the study were (a) job involvement was significantly different for different types of occupation and job positions, while job stress was significantly different based on gender, education, income, and the term of service; (b) perceptions of organizational culture by employees varied according to gender, age, position, the period of service, and firm size; (c) the level of work-life harmonization was not significantly different based on gender, age, marital status, education, and income - but it did differ significantly based on types of occupation and firm size; (d) the employee's type of education, job involvement, job stress, and organizational culture have effects on work-life harmonization.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of science writing for different audiences on preservice chemistry teachers' chemistry concept understanding and modeling ability in general chemistry experiment activities using Argument-based Modeling (AbM) strategy. And we also examined preservice chemistry teachers' perceptions of modeling in different audience groups. The participants of the study were 18 university students in the first grade of preservice chemistry teachers taking a general chemistry experiment course. They completed eleven topics of general chemistry experiment using argument-based modeling strategy. The understanding of chemistry concept was compared with the effect size of pre- and post-chemistry concept test scores. To find out modeling ability, we analyzed level of model by each preservice chemistry teacher. Analytical framework for the modeling ability was composed of three elements, explanation, representation, and communication. The questionnaire was conducted to check up on preservice chemistry teacher's recognition of modeling. The result of analyzing the effect of modeling for different audience on the understanding of chemistry concept and modeling ability, the preservice chemistry teachers' were found to be more effective when the level of audience was low. There was no difference in the recognition of modeling between the groups for audience. However, we could confirm that the responses of preservice chemistry teachers are changed in concrete when they have an experience in succession on modeling.
This study, as a case where the environmental conflict and dispute arose between the use and the conservation as in the other protected areas in Korea, took the first step to build ecological citizenship to solve various and complicated issues in a fundamental level by providing a basic information on differentiated environmental perceptions of the locality and the visitors of Seoraksan National Park. The questionnaire survey was employed on September 6th and 7th with 150 residents of the park area and 200 visitors of Osaek-Daechungbong trail. Total number of 13 survey questions was introduced using Dunlap and Liere's NEP index. The result shows that the perception of 'balance of nature' was more dominant to the perception of 'humans over nature' and the perception to the 'limits to growth' was also somewhat positive in both groups. The differences in environmental perceptions between the groups exist; the visitor group tended to have more positive level of acceptance of NEP views. Such differences in perceptions suggest that a different normative approach should be taken to the residents of the national park with less pro-environment in their perceptions when policy making. It thus seemed possible that ecological citizenship could be realized since the younger and the higher education level are, the more pro-environment. The findings of the research may cause some concerns however, because the study has been confined as a case study with basic understanding of environmental perceptions and its differences between the interest groups. More extensive research is required to confirm if this is generalized.
This study analyzed the perceptions related to recycling clothing and the actual conditions of unused clothing based on demographic characteristics to help reduce environmental pollution. A total of 833 questionnaires were used in data analysis for this survey study. The subjects consisted of men and women in their 20s to 50s who resided in Gyeongnam and Ulsan, Korea. The data were analyzed by χ2-test using SPSS. The results obtained were as follows. The intention to recycle others' clothing was significantly different for all the demographic characteristics. Overall, the response "I have an intention to recycle others' clothing" was reported by a relatively high proportion of the respondents. The analysis of the motivation to others' clothing showed a significant difference in all demographic characteristics except gender. The main motivation for recycling clothing was because "I wanted to recycle the clothing". The factors hindering recycling others' clothing showed significant differences according to gender, marital status, and occupation. The main hindrance factor was reported as "feeling uncomfortable". The causes of occurrence of unused T-shirts significantly different for all demographic characteristics. The causes of occurrence of unused trousers and skirts was significantly different for all demographic characteristics except monthly income. The cause of undisposed, unused clothing was related to all demographic characteristics Overall, the response "reluctant to dispose of" was reported by a relatively high proportion of the respondents.

The purposes of this study were 1) to identify the differences between the sexes in the perception of sexuality in jeans fashion advertising, 2) to find out the differences between the high and low sexy advertisements and the differences between the groups which had different orientation of the characteristics of new young generation in preferences of advertisements and intentions to purchase product in sexy fashion advertising. The data were collected using questionnairs which contained nine advertisements of Guess Jeans, from 441 college students (female= 225, male= 216) living in Seoul, Korea participated in the study and the data were and analyzed by paired 1·test and t-test. The results of this study were as follows: First, there were significant differences between male and female in the perceptions of sexuality in jeans advertisements. Second, by paired t-test, male preferred highly sexy advertisement to low sexy advertisement, and female's intention to purchase product was higher in the advertisement of high sex appeal than that of low sex appeal. Third, there were partially significant diferences between two groups which had different orientation of the characteristics of new young generation in preferences of sexy advitisements. The differences of intentions to purchase product between two groups were significant in highly sexual advertising. But in low sexual advertising, the significant differences between two groups were not found in advertisement preferences and intentions to purchase products.
This study investigated the current processing degree and ingredients of sauce on the packaging of the commercial eel products made in Northeast Asia (Korea, Japan, China and Taiwan) and surveyedthe perception of nutritional functionality and purchasing pattern of Japanese consumers for the processed eels. The results are considered as a useful aid for preparation of processed eel products. The commercial eel products, purchased at a department store, supermarket and discount market, were divided by processing method, package quantity, storage method and sauce ingredients. The processing method was indicated in many different ways in each country, such as sauce ingredients and intake method. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 105 Japanese consumers (male 43, female 62) visiting Korea. Of the respondents, 44% answered and the major reasons for purchasing processed eel products were as a side dish for meals. The results for this factor were significantly different in relation to age (p <0.05). The degree of perceptions of functional excellence about processed eel products was well known (37%), some (49%), and seldom (14%). The results for this factor were significantly different in relation to age (p <0.001). Seventy-five percent of the respondents had experienced processed eel products. The type of purchase of the respondents was highest for vinegared rice and fish (47%), followed by freezing (33%), canning (5%), and dried food (4%), in that order.
Residential Buildings should provide high-quality, comfortable environments to support the activities of their occupants. The indoor environment of residential buildings, which includes thermal, lighting, acoustic, and indoor air quality, has a significant impact on health and quality of life. The comfortable living environment in residential buildings result from appropriately combining these environmental quality factors, and the performance of building systems must be compatible with the activities of the occupants. The objective of this research is to investigate and analyze the relationship between physical environmental conditions and occupant responses for improving environmental quality (EQ) in apartment buildings with four different building orientations (i.e. E, W, S, N) in two different seasons (i.e. winter and summer). The occupant survey was conducted in actual apartment buildings. The Physical environmental conditions in apartment buildings differed substantially depending on space, outdoor weather conditions and building orientations. Each space within the same apartment building had different environmental conditions. Combinations of unbalanced physical environmental conditions in apartment building decrease occupants' satisfactions and their perceptions of overall residential quality. Occupants' satisfaction and their responses to physical characteristics of their residential environment is related to thermal, lighting, acoustic, and indoor air conditions in their buildings. The result from this research will help designers and researchers to identify problems and develop solutions for improving environmental quality from the occupants' point of view.
Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of design parameters of vibrotactile signals on semantic association with transmitted information conveying different meanings. Background: As information communication relying on human visual channel becomes excessive, the utility of vibrotactile signals is being interested as a substitute measure of delivering information. Properly designed hapticons may relieve burden of visual communication by rendering distinct and meaningfully compatible haptic sensations. Method: A typical Kansei engineering approach was adopted in this study. Ten most distinctive hapticons were selected among those having different frequencies and amplitudes. Associations between the hapticons and twenty four pairs of adjectives used to describe the state of automobile in control were gathered from thirty subjects using semantic differential scales. Results: The selected pairs of adjectives were summarized by factor analysis into two semantic dimensions named 'Awareness' and 'Directionality'. The experimental hapticons matched with the semantic dimensions were presented as a haptic emotion map. Conclusion: The results from this study support that frequencies and amplitudes of haptic signals play important roles in arousing different human perceptions regarding the two haptic emotional dimensions. Application: Properly designed hapticons with respect to the contents of transmitted information will increase human operator's situation awareness as well as system performance. The result from this study can be used to develop standardized hapticons for active haptic communication.
