  • This paper presents the analysis of the dielectric characteristics of a hot $SF_6$ gas in a gas circuit breaker. Hot gas flow is analyzed using the FVFLIC method considering the moving boundary, material properties of real $SF_6$ gas, and arc plasma. In the arc model, the re-absorption of the emitted radiation is approximated with the boundary source layer where the re-absorbed radiation energy is input as an energy source term in the energy conservation equation. The breakdown criterion of a hot gas is predicted using the critical electric field as a function of temperature and pressure. To validate the simulation method, breakdown voltage for a 145kV 40kA circuit breaker was measured for various conditions. Consistent results between the simulation and experiment were confirmed.

  • In this paper, the electrical conduction, breakdown strength and dielectric properties were investigated in the interfaces of PET films. The volume resistivity and breakdown strength were decreased; especially the specimens with semiconductive layer showed the lowest breakdown strength. This decrease of electrical properties was appeared by increasing charge density in inhomogeneous layer of PET. The dielectric properties of PET did not show significant difference with PET/PET but the films with semiconductive interface layer showed the increase in capacitance and $tan\delta$ was affected by the PET rather than semiconductive layer. It is assumed that the variation of $tan\delta$ was affected by the dielectric polarization and the leakage current(charge).

  • In this paper, dielectric properties of XLPE sheets of 22kV cable with semiconducting and water were investigated. The breakdown strength of XLPE under rod/needle electrode were measured at without oil. It is found that the dielectric properties such tan$\delta$ of XLPE sheet dependence on semiconducting and water layer and are decreased much lower increase with temperature. The breakdown strength and the electrode effect are obtained as a function of thickness, and a equation for the sheet thickness dependent breakdown strength is also discussion.

  • Pure barium titanate was sintered at $1340^{\circ}C$ for 2, 4, 8, 16 hr to control their grain size. The measurements of breakdown strength and partial discharge characteristics were performed under rising AC voltage(60Hz). With increase of sintering time, the average grain size was increased and breakdown strength was slightly decreased. Partial discharge in pores was observed under high voltage, and a model of dielectric break down in barium titanate ceramics is proposed.

  • Effects of ionic impurities on the dielectric breakdown of the crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) were studied using aqueous electrolytes. It was found that the AC breakdown strength of XLPE decreases considerably when the ions are present in the electrodes composed of aqueous electrolyte. Details of results were described.

  • This paper describes a study of electrical tree growth in DGEBA/MDA/SN system subjected to ac high electric field. The dielectric breakdown process, which consists of tree initiation, tree propagation and the complete puncture of the system was investigated. Dielectric breakdown always initiated from the needle tip where the electric field reinforcement is the highest. Higher temperature and voltage accelerated the tree growth and reduced the time to breakdown.

  • The dielectric breakdown of epoxy composites used for transformers was experimented and then its data were applied to Weibull distribution probability. First of all, speaking of dielectric breakdown properties, the more hardener increased, the stronger breakdown strength became at low temperature because of cross-linked density by the virtue of ester radical. The breakdown strength of specimens with filler was lower than it of non-filler specimens because it is believed that the adding filler forms interface and charge is accumulated in it, therefore the molecular motility is raised and the electric field is concentrated. In the case of filled specimens with treating silane, the breakdown strength become much higher. Finally, according to Weibull distribution analysis, reducing breakdown probability of equipment insulation lower than 0.1 % level requires the allowable field intensity values to be kept under 21.5 MV/cm.

  • In order to investigate the electrical properties of X-ray tube oils for insulating and cooling, the breakdown characteristics in temperature range of $20\sim100[^{\circ}C]$, that of AC breakdown in 0.5~2.5[mm] of gap length, we are made researches. The classification for the physical properties of oil for X-ray tube by FTIR and H-NMR experiments was confirmed to type of mineral oils. As for the dependance of breakdown characteristics due to electrode gap length, breakdown voltage was found nearly uniform by impurity effect according to the increase of gap. As a result the characteristics for AC breakdown, the dielectric strength was increased to $90[^{\circ}C]$ but decreased over $90[^{\circ}C]$ in the temperature range.
