  • A revised checklist of the Korean Plecoptera is updated here, with 10 families, 36 genera, and 95 species are reported. Pictetiella asiatica Zwick & Levanidova, Claassenia radiata (Klapálek), Xanthoneuria unimaculata (Zhiltzova) and Sweltsa sp. Ko (temporary name) are known only from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Nemoura sahlbergi Morton, Perlomyia kiritshenkoi Zhiltzova, and Neoperla adamantea Murányi & Li are reported for the Republic of Korea in this study. Nemoura ussuriensis Zhiltzova, Capnia sidimiensis Zhiltzova, Eucapnopsis quattuorsegmentata Okamoto, Yoraperla uenoi (Kohno), Isoperla kozlovi Zhiltzova, and Kamimuria lyubaretzi Teslenko are new from the Korean peninsula. Materials, bibliographic data, diagnoses for newly recorded species, and their distributions are provided.

  • Insulation aging diagnosis system provides early warning regarding electrical equipment defect. Early warning is very important in that it can avoid great losses resulting from unexpected shutdown of the production line. Since relations of insulation aging and partial discharge dynamics are non-linear, it is very difficult to provide early warning in an electrical equipment. In this paper, we propose the design method of insulation aging diagnosis system that use a magnetic wave and acoustic signal to diagnoses an electrical equipment. Proposed system measures the partial discharge on-line from DAS(Data Acquisition System) and acquires 2D patterns from analyzing it. For filtering the noise contained in sensor signals we used ICA algorithms. Using this data, design of the neuro-fuzzy model that diagnoses an electrical equipment is investigated. Validity of the new method is asserted by numerical simulation.

  • This paper suggests the system which monitors and diagnoses the distribution transformers. Moreover, this paper has established the system for the multi diagnoses by all the informations. Through the proven oil sensor, the oil temperature, capacitance and $tan{\delta}$ could be measured throughly, and followed by these informations, detected problems of the distribution transformers, using wireless data communication, could directly reported to the main host. For this, the proposed system is divided into sensor part and controller part. To prove the usefulness of the system, the paper compared and analyzed the system with the existing one, and after studying the correlation of the both, the result proved its goodness.

  • Bioterrorism events have worldwide impacts, not only in terms of security and public health policy, but also in other related sectors. Many countries, including Korea, have set up new administrative and operational structures and adapted their preparedness and response plans in order to deal with new kinds of threats. Korea has dual surveillance systems for the early detection of bioterrorism. The first is syndromic surveillance that typically monitors non-specific clinical information that may indicate possible bioterrorism-associated diseases before specific diagnoses are made. The other is infectious disease specialist network that diagnoses and responds to specific illnesses caused by intentional release of biologic agents. Infectious disease physicians, clinical microbiologists, and infection control professionals play critical and complementary roles in these networks. Infectious disease specialists should develop practical and realistic response plans for their institutions in partnership with local and state health departments, in preparation for a real or suspected bioterrorism attack.

  • One hundred and thirty-nine thyroid nodules were evaluated by aspiration biopsy cytology (ABC) and were compared with the postoperative histologic diagnosis during the period from May 1, 1986 through Aug. 31, 1992. The correlation betwen the two diagnoses proved to be comparable with a low incidence of false-negative diagnoses, but with a relatively high incidence of false-positive ones. The sensitivity was 93.5%, specificity 89.6%, false-negative rate 6.5%, false-positive rate 10.4%, positive predictability 87.9%, negative predictability 94.5%, and overall diagnostic accuracy 91.4%.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a standardized Nursing Diagnosis/ Intervention Protocol through a literature review and validity testing. Seven nursing diagnoses were selected as major nursing diagnosis in the field of Nutritional and Eliminative problem. The nursing intervention list was made by an expert group's review of Nursing Intervention Classification(NIC) suggested nursing interventions. Nursing activities which were included in each nursing intervention were sorted to follow the nursing intervention process after review and revision. The expert group's validity testing was done twice using the Likert scale. As a result the Nursing Diagnosis/ Intervention Protocol for Nutritional and Eliminative Problems was made to include 7 Nursing Diagnoses, 51 Nursing Interventions and 631 Nursing Activities.

  • In order to determine the factors affecting the length of stay by pay status, a total of 961 in-patients medical records with appendectomy. cholecystectomy and Cesarean section discharged from the January 1979 to December 1981 from the University hospital were reviewed. Average length of stay showed no statistically significant difference by year between the insured and the non-insured patients, however multiple diagnoses and surgical complication were significantly different from single diagnosis and non-complicated cases. Surgical complication explained the length of stay mostly, and physician in discharge, multiple diagnoses, and accommodation in order for insured patients. Surgical complication, admission route, physician in charge and age in order explained the length of stay for non-insured patients.

  • The objective is to review a case of pneumoparotitis and to discuss how knowledge of this unique presentation is important when making differential diagnoses in emergency medicine. A patient with recurrent subcutaneous emphysema of the head and neck is reviewed. Stenson's duct demonstrated purulent discharge. Physical examination revealed palpable crepitance of the head and neck. Fiberoptic laryngoscopy and barium esophagram were normal. Computed tomography demonstrated left pneumoparotitis and subcutaneous emphysema from the scalp to the clavicles. This is an unusual presentation of pneumoparotitis and malingering. Emergency physicians should be aware of pneumoparotitis and its presentation when creating a differential diagnosis for pneumomediastinum, which includes more life-threatening diagnoses such as airway or esophageal injuries.
