  • The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a job-esteem scale that reflects the unique characteristics of academic librarians. The study conducted an analysis of relevant literature and existing scales in the scale development phase, followed by in-depth interviews with 10 academic librarians, resulting in the creation of 100 preliminary measurement items. These items underwent content validity testing, consultations with linguists, and face validity assessments, which culminated in the selection of 52 items for a preliminary measurement scale. A pilot survey was then administered with 300 academic librarians from four-year universities nationwide to collect data, and item analysis and reliability testing were performed with the data. Then, an exploratory factor analysis was conducted, resulting in the elimination of 22 items and the finalization of 30 items. The main survey was conducted with 345 academic librarians, and the study confirmed high reliability of the data through item analysis and internal consistency tests. Through another confirmatory factor analysis, the study finalized 29 items. The final scale met all criteria for convergent, discriminant, and criterion validity. This study marks the first development of a job-esteem scale tailored to the distinct attributes of academic librarians, and its significance lies in its utility for assessing and analyzing the job esteem of academic librarians.

  • The purpose of this study was to 1) investigate the characteristics of burnout of Korean elementary school students and 2) develop and validate the Korean Academic Burnout Scale-Elementary School Students (KABS-ESS). Fifty-one behavioral descriptions of burnout extracted through a preliminary survey, focus group interview, and literature review were administered to a sample of 531 elementary students of the 4th to 6th grade in Gyeonggi Province. The results of an exploratory factor analysis indicated that the structure of the burnout of Korean elementary school students consists of seven factors (i.e., inefficacy, avoidance, cynicism, emotional exhaustion, physical exhaustion, antipathy and cognitive exhaustion), and this structure of final 28 items was confirmed by the confirmatory factor analysis. The KABS-ESS showed a correlation of .771 with a representative academic burnout scale, Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey, and -.561 with the academic engagement scale, indicating that both convergent and discriminant validities were confirmed. Furthermore, all fit indices of the structural equation model of the Schaufeli and Bakker's job demands-resources in an academic setting were satisfactory, and the possibility of the validity generalization of the model was supported. The demand variables predicting academic burnout and engagement were academic overload and parental pressure, while self-resilience, self-regulated learning strategies, and parental and the teacher's support were identified as the resource variables. Lastly, the implications and future direction of the present study were discussed.

  • National Geography Institute(NGI, National mapping agency) has been producing national basemap in automated process since middle of 1980's toward the systematic and efficient management of national land. In 1995, Korean government initiated a full-scale implementation of the National Geographic Information System(NGIS) Development Plan. Under the NGIS Development Plan, NGI began to produce digital maps in the scales of 1:1,000, 1:5,000, 1:25,000. However, digital maps of 1:250,000 scale, which are currently used for national land planning, were not included in NCIS Development Plan. Also, the existing laws and specifications related to digital maps of 1:250,000 scale are not clearly defined. It is fully appreciated that data dictionary will be a key element for users and generators of digital maps to rectify the existing problems in digital maps as well as to maximize the application of digital maps. There(ore this study proposed a feature classification system, which defines features that should be represented in digital map of 1:250,000 scale, and data dictionary as well.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and validate a maternal happiness scale which can be used for mothers who take care of young children, school-aged children, and adolescents. First, the maternal happiness scale was developed based on literature review and the consent of experts. Finally it was consisted of 56 items from 18 elements of happiness through checking the contents validity with professionals. Second, final respondents for the survey were 1300 mothers who had children with and without disabilities in Seoul, Busan, Gyeonggi, and Kyungnam. Third, the 8 factors including the 53 items were extracted through the mothers' appraisal of the items and the review of the adequacy for the factor analysis. The 8 factors were consisted with 'Family relations with family', 'Laid-back life and self-esteem', 'Physical and mental health', 'Independency and development', 'Spirituality', 'Interpersonal relations', 'Appearance', 'Sociocultual environment'. Fourth, the maternal happiness scale demonstrated appropriate levels of construct validity, item internal consistency, distribution of item response, and item discrimination. The results of this study enhance our understanding of the core factors of maternal happiness. In addition, the findings have implications for supporting mothers who take care of young children, school-aged children, and adolescents.

  • Purpose: High-quality nursing care must be provided for women with infertility, and their nursing needs must be identified. Although scales have been developed to assess infertility-related stress, quality of life, and psychosocial status, there is a lack of scales that assess the nursing needs of women with infertility. The purpose of this study was to develop a needs assessment scale for nursing care in women with infertility and to verify its reliability and validity. Methods: The 250 subjects in this study were women with infertility recruited from four hospitals. The scale was developed following the framework of DeVellis, through a literature review, in-depth interviews, development of preliminary items, verification of content validity, development of secondary items, verification of construct validity, and extraction of the final items. Date were analyzed using item analysis, factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, Pearson correlation coefficients, and Cronbach's alpha. Reliability was tested using Cronbach's alpha, and validity was evaluated using item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and criterion validity. Results: The final version of the nursing needs assessment scale for woman with infertility consisted of 18 items. Four factors (physical and psychological nursing needs, needs for information regarding treatment, needs for infertility-related understanding and concern, and supportive needs) explained 66.0% of the total variance. Cronbach's alpha was .92 for the overall instrument and ranged from .88 to .91 for the subscales. Conclusion: These results suggest that this needs assessment scale for nursing care in women with infertility demonstrated acceptable validity and reliability and contained items suitable for assessing the level of nursing care needed by women with infertility.

  • Background: Phenological studies are a prerequisite for accomplishing higher productivity and better crop quality in cultivated plants. However, there are no phenological studies on Panax ginseng that improve its production yield. This study aims to redefine the phenological growth stages of P. ginseng based on the existing Biologische Bundesanstalt, Bundessortenamt und Chemische Industrie (BBCH) scale and proposes a disease control reference. Methods: This study was conducted at the Korea Ginseng Corporation Experiment Station in Gyeonggi province, South Korea. Phenological observations were performed once weekly or twice monthly, based on the developmental stages. The existing BBCH scale with a three-digit code was used to redefine and update P. ginseng's phenological growth codes. Results: The phenological description is divided into eight principal growth stages: three for vegetative growth (perennating bud, aerial shoot, and root development), four for reproductive growth (reproductive organ development, flowering, fruit development, and fruit maturation), and one for senescence according to the extended BBCH scale. A total of 58 secondary growth stages were described within the eight principal growth stages. Under each secondary growth stage, four mesostages are also taken into account, which contains the distinct patterns of the phenological characteristics in ginseng varieties and the process of transplanting seedlings. A practical management program for disease control was also proposed by using the BBCH code and the phenological data proposed in this work. Conclusion: The study introduces an extended BBCH scale for the phenological research of P. ginseng.

  • A roller rig has been widely used in the study about dynamic stability and railway safety. However, the cost for constructing the roller rig and the difficulty in adjusting the design parameters for vehicle systems lead to the development of a small scale simulator which is cheaper than the large scale test systems and easy to control the parameters affecting dynamic characteristics of the railway vehicle. For the operation of the small scale test system called a small scale simulator, it is required to investigate the performance and characteristics of the system. This could be achieved by a comparative study between an analysis and an experiment. This paper presented the analytical model which could be used for verifying of the test results and understanding of the physical behavior of the dynamic system comprising the small scale bogie and the simulator.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an appropriate scale for evaluating early years children's English textbooks and to confirm the validity and reliability for the scale thus developed. The scale was administered to 563 Korean early childhood English teachers. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) of the 24 item scale demonstrated Cronbach' ${\alpha}$ = .94 for internal consistency of the total items. Confimatory Factor Analysis (CFA) supported a four-factor structure. Cross-Validation for the retest accepted the four-factors. Those four factors were as follows; Contents & Organization as factor 1, Illustrations & Designs as factor 2, Materials & Topics, as factor 3 and Objectives as factor 4. The author suggests that these afore mentioned factors will prove to be most useful for evaluating the children's English textbooks which are apparently published in an often quite indiscriminant manner.
