  • Unbalanced source voltage in the 3-phase power system is decomposed into positive, negative and zero sequence c components. Also, assuming there is no neutral path in the system, the zero sequence component is not shown on the l load side. Therefore, in the unbalanced power system without neutral path. it is possible to provide balanced voltage to t the load side by compensating negative sequence component and also to regulate the voltage amplitude by controlling t the positive sequence component. In addition, the symmetrical components due to voltage unbalance can be effectively d detected on the synchronous reference frame by using dlongleftarrowq transformation. In this paper, an algorithm not only c compensating unbalanced source voltage by canceling the negative sequence component on the synchronous reference f frame but also maintaining load voltages constantly is proposed. Also a novel method for phase angle detection s synchronized by positive sequence component under unbalanced source voltage is suggested and this detected phase a angle is used for d-q transformation. The performances and characteristics of the proposed compensating system are a analyzed by simulation and verified through experimental results.

  • In distributed generation systems, a grid-connected inverter should operate with synchronization to grid voltage. Considering that synchronization requires the phase angle of grid voltage, a phase locked loop (PLL) scheme is often used. The synchronous reference frame phase locked loop (SRF-PLL) is generally known to provide reasonable performance under ideal grid voltage. However, this scheme indicates performance degradation under the harmonic distorted or unbalanced grid voltage condition. To overcome this limitation, this paper proposes a phase and harmonic detection method of grid voltage using fast Fourier transform (FFT). To reduce the calculation time of FFT algorithm, minimum sampling data is taken from the voltage measurement to determine the phase angle and the magnitude of harmonic components. An experimental test setup for a grid-connected inverter system has been constructed. By comparative simulations and experiments under various abnormal grid voltage conditions, the proposed scheme has been proven to effectively track the phase angle of the grid voltage.

  • Quench Detection System (QDS) is essential to guarantee the stable operation of the Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research (KSTAR) Poloidal Field (PF) magnet system because the stored energy in the magnet system is very large. For the fast response, voltage-based QDS has been used. Co-wound voltage sensors and balanced bridge circuits were applied to eliminate the inductive voltages generated during the plasma operation. However, as the inductive voltages are hundreds times higher than the quench detection voltage during the pulse-current operation, Central Difference Averaging (CDA) and MIK, where I and K stand for mutual coupling indexes of different circuits, which is an active cancellation of mutually generated voltages have been suggested and studied. In this paper, the CDA and MIK technique were applied to the KSTAR magnet for PF magnet quench detection. The calculated inductive voltages from the MIK and measured voltages from the CDA circuits were compared to eliminate the inductive voltages at result signals.

  • This paper presents a new control scheme for a DVR(Dynamic Voltage Restorer) system consisting of series voltage source PWM converters. To control negative sequence component of source voltage the detection of negative sequence is necessary. Generally, filtering process is used tn do that. Through this filtering process has some problems. This paper suggests a new method of separating positive and negative sequences. This control system is designed using differential controllers and digital filters, and positive sequence and negative sequences are controlled respectively. The performance of the presented controller and scheme are confirmed through simulation and actual experiment by 2.5kVA prototype DVR.

  • The analysis of distribution line faults is essential to the proper protections of the power system. A high impedance fault test, which was carried in Korean electric power systems, it was found that a arcing phenomenon occurred during the high level portion of conductor voltage in each cycle. In this paper, we propose a new method for detection of high impedance faults, which uses the arcing fault current difference during high voltage and low voltage portion of conductor voltage waveform. To extract this difference, we diveded one cycle fault current into equal spanned four data windows according to the magnitude of voltage waveform and applied fast fourier transform(FFT) to each data window. The frequency spectrum of current wavefrom in each portion are used as the inputs of neural network and is trained to detect high impedance faults. The proposed method shows improved accuracy when applied to staged fault data and fault-like load.

This paper proposes a electric leakage point detection system underground power cable using of half-period modulated transmission waveform and earth electric potential measurement. The developed system is composed of transmitter to generate the wanted pulse waveform, receiver to measure and display earth electric potential by the transmitted pulse in electric leakage point and PC Software program to display of GPS coordinate on detection cable line. The performance of the electric leakage point detection system was tested in the constructed underground cable leakage detection test bed. The test results on signal generation voltage precision of signal transmitter, mean detection earth voltage, mean detection leakage current and electric leakage point detection error showed the developed system can be used in electric leakage point detection underground power cable.

  • This paper proposes a novel detection algorithm of faulted voltages under the unbalanced condition. To quantify the standard of unbalance under the faulted conditions, the 3-phase unbalanced voltages are decomposed into two balanced 3-phase symmetrical components of the positive and negative sequence voltages, which is defined by the magnitude factor (MF) and unbalance factor (MF). It is analyzed that MF and UF values are given as the dc constant values even though unbalance condition. This paper also proposes the control scheme of the instantaneous voltage sag corrector based on this detection algorithm. The validity of the proposed algorithm is verified through the EMTDC simulation and experiments.

  • This paper describes the detection algorithm which can distinguish series arcing signal from voltage harmonics or noises produced by the operation of non-linear loads. A high pass filter with the cutoff frequency of 3 kHz is designed and it can attenuate power frequency signal to 80 dB. Series arcing phenomena is simulated to an incandescent lamp controlled by a dimmer. From the experimental results, it is confirmed that the amplitude of the filter output voltage varies at random during series arcing but the signal generated by non-linear loads appears on a regular basis. We proposed a series arcing detection algorithm using the chaotic nature of voltage signal.
