  • This study intended to put information regarding space composition and functional relationship together and analyze them, and finally offers some suggestions. For the field survey, built questionnaire and drawings analysis were used in this study. Architectural programming offers basic information for design : putting field survey factors together and analysing them. It interacts with each part of design as well. In the initial stage of architectural design, the quality of information is very decisive in the quality of design. In this sense, analysing basic information such as floor space compositive system is required to rationalizing space and functional programing in the elementary school design.

  • An optimum design method for hybrid control systems is proposed in this study. By considering both active and passive control systems as a combined or a hybrid system, the optimization of the hybrid system can be achieved simultaneously. In the proposed approach, we consider design parameters of active control devices and the elements of the feedback gain matrix as design variables for the active control system. Required quantity of the added dampers are also treated as design variables for the passive control system. In the proposed method, the cost of both active and passive control devices, the required control efforts and dynamic responses of a target structure are selected as objective functions to be minimized. To effectively address the multi-objective optimization problem, we adopt a preference-based optimization model and apply a genetic algorithm as a numerical searching technique. As an example to verify the validity of the proposed optimization technique, a wind-excited 20-storey building with hybrid control systems is used and the results are presented.

  • In early design stages structural form finding is of importance. Theses days the structural forms are forced to satisfy not only engineering criteria but also aesthetic concerns including symbolism. Geometric approach seems to provide many possibilities in generating creative forms as design alternatives for bridge structures. However, the increase in possibilities of geometric application didn't gather much attention from bridge designers who are focusing mainly on structural aspects. Prior to adopting the geometric approach, it is needed to review bridge structures in terms of geometric vocabulary. This study has proposed how to generate geometric forms of bridge structures in terms of geometric computing concepts.

  • This study is concerned with development of air supply system in 250kW MCFC fuel cell system. The turbo blower is decided as an air supply system to increase the efficiency of fuel cell system. The turbo blower consists of an impeller, two vaneless diffuser, a vaned diffuser and a volute. The cascade diffuser is used to raise the efficiency of turbo blower. An aerodynamic design was done by applying the repeating design procedure including a meanline design, a 3D geometry generation and fluid dynamic calculation. It is confirmed from meanline and 3D flow analysis results that the operating range is enough and design requirements are successfully achieved. The performance test results were also included in this paper.

  • 3D graphic softwares have brought design spaces beyond the limitations of Euclidean space. Moreover, as computational geometry has been considered together with algorithms, generative algorithms are being evolved. Recently 3D graphic softwares with the embedded generative algorithms allow designers to design free form curves and surfaces in a systematic way. While architectural design has been greatly affected by the advancement of 3D graphic technology, such attention has not given in the realm of structural design. Grasshopper is a platform in Rhino to deal with these Generative Algorithms and Associative modelling techniques. This study has tried to develop a module for preliminary structural configuration using Rhino with Grasshopper. To verify the proposed concept in this study, a module for designing a basic type of suspension structure is introduced.

  • In this paper, we propose two design methods of neural networks controller for the height control of helicopter, one is the design of neural network controller having learning capability and the other is the design of more improved neural network controller. Through the simulation results, we show that the proposed controllers have controllers have enhanced control performance(rapid response, effectiveness and safety) than the typical neural networks controller in the height control of helicopter.

  • This project has been designed for people to experience and understand the process, importance and benefit of coal fire plants. As the biggest and first typical Korean fire plant using coal, Boryeong fire plant has had important roll for the Korean industries. Even so, people has had wrong prejudice for the fire plant in terms of environmental protection. To do these kind of rolls, this museum has been designed with theme, "Boryeong fire plant mating symbiotic relationship between nature, human and technologies." The space was zoned with five major themes: i. circulation of energy in nature, ii. electric power and eco-fire plant, iii. future energy, iv roll for future of environment, v. Korea as the leading energy industry. The design has been developed focused on spatial experiences to make 'Design Sequence' with linear circulations haying several important destinations. The interior has been finished with minimal color and materials projected by big sized movie and various LED movie system. Concept of appordance has been used to make interactive experiences between exhibits and visitors.
