  • Granular Computing has emerged as a unified and coherent framework of designing, processing, and interpretation of information granules. Information granules are formalized within various frameworks such as sets (interval mathematics), fuzzy sets, rough sets, shadowed sets, probabilities (probability density functions), to name several the most visible approaches. In spite of the apparent diversity of the existing formalisms, there are some underlying commonalities articulated in terms of the fundamentals, algorithmic developments and ensuing application domains. In this study, we introduce two pivotal concepts: a principle of justifiable granularity and a method of an optimal information allocation where information granularity is regarded as an important design asset. We show that these two concepts are relevant to various formal setups of information granularity and offer constructs supporting the design of information granules and their processing. A suite of applied studies is focused on knowledge management in which case we identify several key categories of schemes present there.

  • Soil is the most important factor in natural environment for bio-diversity. Urbanization and development of city devastate urban soil by the fraternization of green network and run off pollution. In these facts, preservation of soil is the main issue in maintain of quality urban environment. In order to handle this issue, the gold network that link fragment soil patches is considered in maintain quality soil. This study researched the infiltration Treebox design technique based on the Low Impact Development. This technique suggest reduction of impervious area of the soil due to urbanization. The main concept of this study is encourage more permeable surfaces in urban area by using a infiltration planter. The function of the planter is hold run off as much as possible from intensive rainfall, and utilizes it in drought season. Also, this planter provides fertile soil for organism habitat by keeping appropriate moisture supplying.

  • Because of new requirements related to the employment of SMT(Surface Mounting Technology) manufacturing and the diversity of components on high density PCB(printed circuit boards), Thermal control of the reflow process is required in oder to achieve acceptable yields and reliability of SMT assemblies. Accurate control of the temperature distribution during the reflow process is one of the major requirements, especially in lead-free assembly. This study has been performed for reflow process using the commercial CFD tool(Fluent) for predicting flow and temperature distributions. There was flow recirculation region that had a weak point in the temperature uniformity. Porous plate was installed to prevent and minimize flow recirculation region for acquiring uniform temperature in oven. This paper provided design concept from CFD results of the steady state temperature distribution and flow field inside a reflow oven.

  • This study considered stools not just as a tool for sitting but with their symbolicity as well. Regarding the changes and meanings of general stools and X-stools, this paper studied their images and explanations as well as literatures by quoting as it limited their range from the ancient times till Neo-classicism. In conclusion, the origin of stools exists in consciousness and also the social hierarchy of authority. There still remain the elements of X in any way along with the functions. This proves that furniture has reason for existence even today not just for its functions but something beyond that. Along with the historic flow of X-stools, we should know that there is diversity of thinking in the area of stools. In understanding furniture design or furniture, now is the time to approach to it in various ways, and it is expected that new design can be born through that thinking.

  • In analyzing, designing, implementing the system, the traditional modeling method lacks design procedure and specification in reflecting the functional or nonfunctional requirements perfectly and consequently. These problems are unreliable in the Library and Information System since it requires a diversity of reference methodes based on various types of data. In this paper, we modify the method partially which the OMT proposes and apply it on system development. We also prepare the object oriented modeling modified from OMT type' modeling for Library User System Requirements.

  • Fruit harvesting robots should have more diversity and flexibility in the working conditions and environments than industrial robots. This paper presents an efficient optimization algorithm for redundant manipulators to avoid obstacles using dynamic performance criteria, while the optimization schemes of the previous studies used the performance criteria using kinematic approach. Feasibility and effectiveness of this algorithm were tested through simulations on a 3-degrees-of-freedom manipulator made for this study. Only the position of the end-effector was controlled , which requires only three degrees of freedom. Remaining joints, except for the wrist roll joint, which does not contribute to the end-effector linear velocity, provide two degrees of redundancy. The algorithm was effective to avoid obstacles in the workspace even through the collision occurred in extended workspace, and it was found be to a useful design tool which gives more flexibility to design conditions nd to find the mechanical constraints for fruit harvesting robots.

  • The Theo Jansen mechanism using 1 degree of freedom is special system of walking robot. The trajectory made by the point of ground position is similar to other walking robot using many degrees of freedom. Because of diversity of design parameter of the Jansen mechanism, it makes a lot of trajectory and takes possibilities of optimization. However this research doesn't focus on the optimization of trajectory, but it focused on comprehensive design of the robot using well-known trajectory and line tracer logic to go fast and accurate along the line. The logic to follow a line has many kinds of possibility of algorithm. To eliminate uncertainty about recognizing a line, I divide the case of line following situation and make optimized logic.

  • This paper proposes the design of PI controller using real-coding genetic algorithm showing a good performance on convergence velocity and diversity of population among evolutionary computations. To evaluate the proposed method's effectiveness, we apply the proposed GA-PI controller to the speed control of an actual DC servomotor system. The experimental results show that GA-PI controller has the better control performance than PI controller in terms of settling time rising time and overshoot.

  • As social and cultural value has been changed, customers are demanding equipment innovation of passenger quarters to improve the satisfaction of their needs and the level of transfortation culture. To promote the convenience of passenger and abstract the facilities factor of passenger quarters design, this article analyzed and compared with the facilities factor of passenger quarters which have been operated in domestic and foreign country. While domestic passenger quarters is composed of seat, toilet and washroom, foreign passengers quarters consist of various factor such as familly room, infant room, business room, conversation room, and multipurpose room. Especially, foreign passenger quarters have provided passenger with diversity of attachment space, securing movement line for weak person, and arranging infant/child's space.

  • The ultra-wideband (UWB) spectrum available for commercial applications has offered us an opportunity to achieve high-speed wireless communications and high-accuracy location applications. As one of key research areas in UWB technology, a lot of innovative broadband and miniaturization techniques for UWB antennas have been greatly invented and developed for years. This paper reviews the development of UWB antenna design in the past decade. Starting with a brief introduction of the specific requirements and promising applications of UWB systems, the unique design challenges of UWB antennas are highlighted. Next, the important milestones of UWB antenna designs are briefed. After that, a variety of planar UWB antennas invented for broadband operation, miniaturization, and multiple functions are introduced. Last, the comments on the development of UWB antennas in future are shared.
