  • Ulsan Port is the main port for handling liquid cargo because of natural environmental conditions and the distribution of port infrastructures in Korea. Damage to both liquid cargo vessels and the port structure caused by maritime accidents could have a serious impact on property and human lives as well as the marine environment. For safe navigation, the parties concerned should ensure the suitability of various design criteria at the harbor design stage. In this paper we analyze and compare various domestic and international harbor design criteria, and then apply each criteria to Ulsan port to evaluate its overall safety. Additionally, this paper specifies certain precautions in terms of reviewing a ship's safety for each channel at Ulsan Port, and suggests possible improvements to optimize channel design.

  • In order to rpovide proper SMT design criteria in a systematic way, a mathematical formulation has been developed to predict the configuration of the solder fillet formed between the gullwing type lead and rectangular pad. Effects of SMT design parameters such as the solder volume and pad dimension on the solder profile are investigated using the FEM that calculates the 3D configuration by minimizing the energy due to surface tension and gravity in the equilibrium state. Design criteria of QFP and SOP are illustrated by plotting the acceptable range of the solder volume with respect to the length and width ratios of the pad and lead. The results show that the acceptable design range increases with increase in the pad length and width. The pad length has more significant effects on design criteria compared with the pad width, and Bond number can be utilized to predict the joint quality.

  • This paper describe the optimal design of geodetic network by analytical technique based on the quality criteria of network. We described an example of geodetic network design taking into account the precision, reliability and strength that are the main criteria of network design. The main goal of this paper is to evaluate the criteria to design the geodetic network coinciding with the criteria of geometrical strength and high reliability. From this study, the result shows relatively weaker strength in marginal part than the center of network. This indicated that the precision of observation in marginal part is relatively lower than the center.

  • As piling works in urban area increasing, SIP which is low noise & vibration piling method is taking place of driven pile which has good bearing charateristics and economics. Since SIP has been used for more than 15 years and it's application is increasing year by year, however, accurate analysis of bearing mechanism of SIP is not enough. So the design of SIP is much more conservative than driven pile. This paper is aimed to analyse the bearing charateristics of 103 SIPs constructed in Korea to give rational design criteria. Research result shows that bearing capacity of SIP is 40% lower than that of driven pile and conservative Meyerhof(equation omitted) method produced closer result to load test results than other design method. And this result show that to use optimised design criteria for the economic SIP design, quality control criteria must be settled down to produce high in-situ bearing capacity.

  • The current load combination criteria for design of nuclear power plant structures(NPP) are not based on the probability-based design concept but rely on the conventional design concept. In this paper, a load combination criteria for design of NPP containment structures are proposed based on a FEM-based random vibration analysis. More accurate reliability analyses under various dynamic loads such as earthquake loads were made possible by incorporating the FEM and random vibration theory, which is different from the conventional reliability analysis method, In this paper, the toad factors for the design of NPP structures in Korea are proposed by considering appropriate load combination criteria for design.

  • Recently due to repeatedly occurrence of flood, a lot of Chinese cities accept new design criteria for their protective project Most of them calculated by a certain type of probability distribution. In order to meet the demand of development economy the return period of design criteria is changed more longer and longer even 1000years, but the data which the calculation dependent on is only about 30-40 years. • Box and Draper( 19(5) listed some properties of a design that should be considered in design selection. But it is impossible that one design criterion from optimal experimental design theory reflects many potential objectives of an experiment, because the theory was originally based on the underlying model and its strict assumption about the error structure. Therefore, when it is neces::;ary to implement multi-objective experimental design. it is common practice to balance out the several optimal design criteria so that each design criterion involved benefits in terms of its relative "high" efficiency. In this study, we proposed several composite design criteria taking the case of heteroscedastic model. WVhen the heteroscedasticity is present in the model. the well known equivalence theorem between 1)- and C-optimality no longer exists and furthermore their design characteristics are sometimes drastically different. We introduced three different design criteria for this purpose: constrained design, combined design, and minimax design criteria. While the first two methods do reflect the prior belief of experimenter, the last one does not take it into account. which is sometimes desirable. Also we extended this method to the case when there are uncertainties concerning the error structure in the model. A simple algorithm and concluslOn follow. On follow.

  • This paper presents a novel design approach that could generate structural design alternatives having different topologies and then, select the optimum structure from them with simulataneously determining its optimum design variables related to geometry and the member size subjected to the multiple objective design environments. For this purpose, a specialized genetic algorithm, called StrGA_DeAl + MOGA, which can handle the design alternatives and multi-criteria problems very effectively, is developed for the optimal structural design. To validate the developed method, method, plain truss design problems are considered as illustrative example. To begin with, some possible topological of the truss structure are suggested based on the stability criterion that should be satisfied under the given loading condition. Then, with the consideration of the given multi-criteria, several different topology forms are selected as design alternatives for the second step of the conceptual design process. Based on the chosen topolgy of truss structures, the sizing or shaping optimization process starts to determine the optimum design parameters. Ten-bar truss problems are given in the paper to confirm the above concept and methodology.

  • Design-build is expanding gradually in large construction projects over 10billion won, and continue to work in health care facilities is increasing in this way. This constructional method in health care facilities, despite the many advantages, many problems caused by design changes are being raised. Raises the question of design changes on the side of construction contract, such as approval systems have been studied in the field of construction. The purpose of this study design in aspects of architectural planning on changing the grasp of the issues outlined in the ITB and bid evaluation criteria through consideration of the basic plan for improvement guidelines and evaluation criteria is presented. In conclusion, Design build, according to the presence of existing users are more likely to lead to design changes. Thus, hospital architecture, depending on how it is considered that constructional methods. And evaluation items of ITB(Invitation To Bidder) for a large part of the change in the variables evaluated in the hospital building is not suitable for the design build. Instead, the overall shape of the building and department, unit type and size, vertical and horizontal parts of the circulation system in the shape of the building that does not change in structure and etc should be considered for evaluation.

  • A conventional single design optimality criterion has been used to select an efficient experimental design. But, since an experimental design is constructed with respect to an optimality criterion pre specified by investigators, an experimental design obtained from one optimality criterion which is superior to other designs may perform poorly when the design is evaluated by another optimality criterion. In other words, none of these is entirely satisfactory and even there is no guarantee that a design which is constructed from using a certain design optimality criterion is also optimal to the other design optimality criteria. Thus, it is necessary to develop certain special types of experimental designs that satisfy multiple design optimality criteria simultaneously because these multi-optimal designs (MODs) reflect the needs of the experimenters more adequately. In this article, we present a heuristic approach to construct second-order response surface designs which are more flexible and potentially very useful than the designs generated from a single design optimality criterion in many real experimental situations when several competing design optimality criteria are of interest. In this paper, over cuboidal design region for $3\;{\leq}\;k\;{\leq}\;5$ variables, we construct multi-optimal designs (MODs) that might moderately satisfy two famous alphabetic design optimality criteria, G- and IV-optimality criteria using a GA which considers a certain amount of randomness. The minimum, average and maximum scaled prediction variances for the generated response surface designs are provided. Based on the average and maximum scaled prediction variances for k = 3, 4 and 5 design variables, the MODs from a genetic algorithm (GA) have better statistical property than does the theoretically optimal designs and the MODs are more flexible and useful than single-criterion optimal designs.
