The Gringorten estimator has been extensively used in extreme value analysis of wind speed records to obtain unbiased estimates of design wind speeds. This paper reviews the derivation of the Gringorten estimator for the mean plotting position of extremes drawn from parents of the exponential type and demonstrates how it eliminates most of the bias caused by the classical Weibull estimator. It is shown that the coefficients in the Gringorten estimator are the asymptotic values for infinite sample sizes, whereas the estimator is most often used for small sample sizes. The principles used by Gringorten are used to derive a new Consistent Linear Unbiased Estimator (CLUE) for the mean plotting positions for the Fisher Tippett Type 1, Exponential and Weibull distributions and for the associated standard deviations. Analytical and Bootstrap methods are used to calibrate the bias error in each of the estimators and to show that the CLUE are accurate to better than 1%.

A simple but accurate analytical model for the lateral channel electric field in gate-offset structured Lightly Doped Drain MOSFET has been developed. Our model assumes Gaussian doping profile, rather than simple uniform doping, for the lightly doped region and our model can be applied to LDD structures where the junction depth of LDD is not identical to the heavily doped drain. The validity of our model has been proved by comparing our analytical results with two dimensional device simulations. Due to its simplicity, our model gives a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in reducing the electric field in the LDD MOSFET. The model shows clearly the dependencies of the lateral channel electric field on the drain and gate bias conditions and process, design parameters. Advantages of our analytical model over costly 2-D device simulations is to identify the effects of various parameters, such as oxide thickness, junction depth, gate/drain bias, the length and doping concentration of the lightly doped region, on the peak electric field that causes hot-electron pohenomena, individually. Our model can also find the optimum doping concentration of LDD which minimizes the peak electric field and hot-electron effects.
In this paper, fabricated is a motion capture and attitude detection system for Head Mounted Display HMD composed of three low-price and low-grade micro gyroscopes and a micro-controller, To calculate attitude of a body, modified INS algorithm is used. Because the micro gyroscope has much bias drift error, scale factor error, and run-to-run bias error, the motion of a body can not be measured exactly if the general INS algorithm and micro gyroscopes are used. To reduce the errors, three accelerometers can be used. In this case, however, the size and power consumption become too large to use in HMD system. The modified INS algorithm use the grid map and the characteristics of the human motions.

A new permanent magnet biased hybrid maglev actuator is developed. Compared to the classical hybrid maglev actuators, the new maglev has unique flux paths such that bias fluxes are separated with control flux paths. The control flux paths have minimum reluctances only developed by air gaps, so the currents to produce control fluxes can be minimized. The consumed power to operate this maglev system can also be minimized. The gravity load can be compensated with the static magnetic forces developed by the permanent magnet bias fluxes while external disturbances are controlled with the bidirectional AC magnetic forces developed by control fluxes by currents. 1-D circuit model is developed for this model such that the flux densities and magnetic forces are extensively analyzed. 3-D finite element model is also developed to analyze the performances of the maglev actuator.

High dimensional time series is gaining considerable attention in recent years. The sparse vector heterogeneous autoregressive (VHAR) model proposed by Baek and Park (2020) uses adaptive lasso and debiasing procedure in estimation, and showed superb forecasting performance in realized volatilities. This paper extends the sparse VHAR model by considering non-convex penalties such as SCAD and MCP for possible bias reduction from their penalty design. Finite sample performances of three estimation methods are compared through Monte Carlo simulation. Our study shows first that taking into cross-sectional correlations reduces bias. Second, nonconvex penalties performs better when the sample size is small. On the other hand, the adaptive lasso with debiasing performs well as sample size increases. Also, empirical analysis based on 20 multinational realized volatilities is provided.

This study was conducted to compare the design rainfall derived by the at-site and regional frequency analysis based on the regionalization of the precipitation. The regional and at-site design rainfalls were calculated by Log-Pearson type III distribution using Indirect Methods of Moments(WRC). The regional and at-site analysis for the design rainfall were tested by Monte Carlo simulation. Relative root-mean-square error(RRMSE), Relative bias(RBIAS) and Relative reduction(RR) in RRMSE were computed and compared between design rainfalls resulted from observed and simulated data using the regional and at-site analysis. It was shown that the regional analysis procedure can substantially reduce the RRMSE, RBIAS in comparison with those of at-site analysis. Consequently, optimal design rainfalls following the regions and consecutive durations were derived by the regional frequency analysis.

The present study purposed to compare formative expression between the fashion of the end of 19th century - early 20th century and that of the 21st century which were influenced by art nouveau and art deco. For this purpose, we analyzed contents in literature, Internet, etc.,. According to the results of this study, the formative expression of art nouveau were divided into continuous movement, optical illusion and decorative expression. Continuous movement was used to express fancy and soft images in the end of 19th century, and to express images giving the feeling of speed and tension in the 21st century. Optical illusion was expressed by the movement the thin and soft materials with the body movement and the movement of excessive frills adornment. And in movement produced using thin and soft materials and by the bias cutting method in the 21st century. Decorative expression was expressed as fantasy and decadent image in the end of 19th century and as mild passionate and modern image with color combination in the 21st century. The formative expression of art deco were divided into visual simplicity, contrastive loudness, and functional expression. Visual simplicity was expressed as a boyish image in the early of 20th century, but as a complex expression combining simplicity and femininity in the 21st century. Contrastive loudness was expressed by using colors both in the early of 20th century and 21st century. Functional expression was reinforced through the lightening of design and materials in the early of 20th century, but through using bias cutting high tech materials in the 21st century.

As the device scaling proceeds, the operating voltage(VDD) of giga-bit DRAMs is expected to be reduced to 1.5V or down, fir improving the device reliability and reducing the power dissipation. Therefore the low-voltage circuit design techniques are required to implement giga-bit DRAMs. In this work, state-of-art low-voltage DRAM circuit techniques are reviewed, and four kinds of low-voltage circuit design techniques are newly proposed for giga-bit DRAMs. Measurement results of test chips and SPICE simulation results are presented for the newly proposed circuit design techniques, which include a hierarchical negative-voltage word-line driver with reduced subthreshold leakage current, a two-phase VBB(Back-Bias Voltage) generator, a two-phase VPP(Boosted Voltage) generator and a bandgap reference voltage generator.
As a fundamental study to introduce the reliability-based design code, a statistical study is conducted for the material strength data collected from domestic construction sites. In order to develop a rational design code based on statistics and reliability theory, it is essential to obtain the statistical properties of material strength. Material strength data for concrete, reinforcing bars, and prestressing strands which are used in domestic construction sites are collected and statistically analyzed. Then, the statistical properties are compared with those used in the process of the reliability-based calibration of internationally leading design codes. The statistical properties of the domestic data are such that the bias factor is relatively uniform between 1.13 and 1.20 and the coefficient of variation is below 0.10. Reinforcing bar data show difference among different manufacturers but there is not much difference among re-bar diameters. In the case of tendons, which are high strength materials, both of the domestic and foreign data show smaller values of the bias factor and the coefficient of variation than those of concrete and re-bar. Statistical distribution of all the material strength can be properly assumed as normal, log-normal, or Gumbel distribution after analyzing the classified data by individual construction site and manufacturer rather than the mixed data obtained from different sources in order to express the individual distribution of each structure.
This research evaluated the change in rainfall quantile during S1, S2, and S3 by using Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP) 4.5 climate scenario HadGEM3-RA Regional Climate Model (RCM) produced by downscaling and bias correlation compared to the past standard observation data S0. Also, the maximum flood peak volume and flood area were calculated by using the urban runoff model and the impact of climate change was analyzed in each period. For this purpose, Gumbel distribution was used as an appropriate model based on the method of maximum likelihood. As a result, in the case of the 10 year-frequency which is the design of most urban drainage facilities, the rainfall quantile is in increased about 10% if we assume 50 years from now with the $3^{rd}$ quarter value and about 20% if we assume 70 years from now. This result implies that the installed urban drainage facility based on the currently set design flood volume cannot be met the design criteria in the future. Therefore, it is necessary to reflect future climate conditions to current urban drainage facilities.
