  • An integrated design system has as its aim the incoporation of all the design processes, such as, planning, preliminary design, analysis, detailed design (mamber design), evaluation, and drafting into an unified software system. Successful implementation such a system could lead to major improvements in efficiency by eliminating duplication of data and efforts. reducing errors, saving design time, providing management support, and so on. This study presents a methodology for an computer-integrated design system for building structures, synthesizing algorithmic procedures and knowledge based expert systems on the network database. Network database, which was designed to store all information systematically during the design processes, provides centeral communication area between algorithms and expert systems. The conventional procedural codes automate the routine design phases such as structural analysis, whereas knowledge-based expert systems support designer's decisions at the creative design phases such as preliminary design etc. The user interface with interactive and batch modes controls the design phases and manages design information and activates the algorithms and the expert systems. The concept presented in this paper will contribute to the formulation of automated design systems for building structures.

  • Principal component analysis (PCA) based algorithms form the basis of numerous algorithms and studies in the face recognition literature. PCA is a statistical technique and its incorporation into a face recognition system requires numerous design decisions. We explicitly take the design decisions by in-troducing a generic modular PCA-algorithm since some of these decision ate not documented in the literature We experiment with different implementations of each module, and evaluate the different im-plementations using the September 1996 FERET evaluation protocol (the do facto standard method for evaluating face recognition algorithms). We experiment with (1) changing the illumination normalization procedure; (2) studying effects on algorithm performance of compressing images using JPEG and wavelet compression algorithms; (3) varying the number of eigenvectors in the representation; and (4) changing the similarity measure in classification process. We perform two experiments. In the first experiment, we report performance results on the standard September 1996 FERET large gallery image sets. The result shows that empirical analysis of preprocessing, feature extraction, and matching performance is extremely important in order to produce optimized performance. In the second experiment, we examine variations in algorithm performance based on 100 randomly generated image sets (galleries) of the same size. The result shows that a reasonable threshold for measuring significant difference in performance for the classifiers is 0.10.

  • This paper presents an effective design method for a gas identification system. The design method adopted the sequential combination between the hybrid genetic algorithms and the TSK fuzzy logic system. First, the sensor grouping method by hybrid genetic algorithms led the effective dimensional reduction as well as effective pattern analysis from a large volume of pattern dimensions. Second, the fuzzy identification sub-models allowed handling the uncertainty of the sensor data extensively. By these advantages, the proposed identification model demonstrated high accuracy rates for identifying the five different types of gases; it was confirmed throughout the experimental trials.

  • Recently, Multi-Objective Optimization of design elements is an important issue in building design. Design variables that considering the specificities of the different environments should use the appropriate algorithm on optimization process. The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the optimal solution using three evolutionary algorithms and energy modeling simulation. This paper consists of three steps: i)Developing three evolutionary algorithm model for optimization of design elements ; ii) Conducting Multi-Objective Optimization based on the developed model ; iii) Conducting comparative analysis of the optimal solution from each of the algorithms. Including Non-dominated Sorted Genetic Algorithm (NSGA-II), Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO) and Random Search were used for optimization. Each algorithm showed similar range of result data. However, the execution speed of the optimization using the algorithm was shown a difference. NSGA-II showed the fastest execution speed. Moreover, the most optimal solution distribution is derived from NSGA-II.

  • Scheduling algorithms plays a significant role in optimizing the CPU in operating system. Each scheduling algorithms schedules the processes in the ready queue with its own algorithm design and its properties. In this paper, the performance analysis of First come First serve scheduling, Non preemptive scheduling, Preemptive scheduling, Shortest Job scheduling and Round Robin algorithm has been discussed with an example and the results has been analyzed with the performance parameters such as minimum waiting time, minimum turnaround time and Response time.

  • This paper proposes algorithms that design the highly parallel multiple-valued logic circuit of DTG(Directed Tree Graph) to be represented by tree structure relationship between input and output of nodes. The conventional Nakajima's algorithms have some problems so that this paper introduce the concept of mathematical analysis based on tree structure to design optimized locally computable circuit. Using the proposed circuit design algorithms in this paper it is possible to design circuit in that DTG have any node number - not to design by Nakajima's algorithms. Also, making a comparison between the circuit design using Nakajim's algorithms and this paper's, we testify that proposed algorithms in this paper optimizes circuit design all case of DTG. Some examples are shown to demonstrate the usefulness of the circuit design algorithm.

  • Algorithms implementing distributed shared memory (DSM) were developed for ensuring consistency. The performance of DSM algorithms is dependent on system and usage parameters. However, ensuring these algorithms to tolerate faults is a problem that needs to be researched. In this study, we proposed fault-tolerant scheme for DSM system and analyzed reliability and fault-tolerant overhead. Using our analysis, we can choose a proper algorithm for DSM on error prone environment.

  • In this paper, we suggest reliability as a metric to evaluate the robustness of a design for the optimal design of electromagnetic devices, with respect to constraints under the uncertainties in design variables. For fast numerical efficiency, we applied the sensitivity-assisted Monte Carlo simulation (S-MCS) method to perform reliability calculation. Furthermore, we incorporated the S-MCS with single-objective and multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithms to achieve reliability-based optimal designs, undertaking probabilistic constraint and multi-objective optimization approaches, respectively. We validated the performance of the developed optimization algorithms through application to the optimal design of a superconducting magnetic energy storage system.

  • Based on the geometric representation an efficient al-gorithm is designed to find all articulation points of a permutation graph. The proposed algorithm takes only O(n log n) time and O(n) space where n represents the number of vertices. The proposed se-quential algorithm can easily be implemented in parallel which takes O(log n) time and O(n) processors on an EREW PRAM. These are the first known algorithms for the problem on this class of graph.
