Study on Optimum Modification Method of Dynamic Charcteristics of Ship Structures by Multi-level Optimization (다단계최적화방법에 의한 선박구조물의 동특성의 최적변경법에 관한연구)

  • This paper discusses the multi-level optimization method in dynamic optimization problems through stiffened plate of ship structures. In structural optimization the computational cost increases rapidly as the number of design variables increases. And we need a great amount of cal-culation and time on problems of modified dynamic characteristics of large and complicated struc-tures. In this paper the multi-level optimization is proposed which decreases computational time and cost. the dynamic optimum designs of stiffened plate that control the natural frequency and minimize weight subjected to constraints condition are derived. The way to apply the multi-level optimization methods in this study follow: In the first step the dynamic characteristics is controlled for the two-dimensional model of stiffened plate by sensitivity analysis and quasi-least squares methods. In the second step the cross-section of the stiffener is decided so that the weight is minimized under needed constraints by the steepest descent or ascent method. In the third the three-dimensional model is made based on the results of the first step and the second step confirmation and finer tuning of the objective function are carried out. It is shown that the results are effective in the optimum modification for dynamic characteristics of the stiffened plate.

Reliability analysis-based conjugate map of beams reinforced by ZnO nanoparticles using sinusoidal shear deformation theory

  • First-order reliability method (FORM) is enhanced based on the search direction using relaxed conjugate reliability (RCR) approach for the embedded nanocomposite beam under buckling failure mode. The RCR method is formulated using discrete conjugate map with a limited scalar factor. A dynamical relaxed factor is proposed to control instability of proposed RCR, which is adjusted using sufficient descent condition. The characteristic of equivalent materials for nanocomposite beam are obtained by micro-electro-mechanical model. The probabilistic model of nanocomposite beam is simulated using the sinusoidal shear deformation theory (SSDT). The beam is subjected to external applied voltage in thickness direction and the surrounding elastic medium is modeled by Pasternak foundation. The governing equations are derived in terms of energy method and Hamilton's principal. Using exact solution, the implicit buckling limit state function of nanocomposite beam is proposed, which is involved various random variables including thickness of beam, length of beam, spring constant of foundation, shear constant of foundation, applied voltage, and volume fraction of ZnO nanoparticles in polymer. The robustness, accuracy and efficiency of proposed RCR method are evaluated for this engineering structural reliability problem. The results demonstrate that proposed RCR method is more accurate and robust than the excising reliability methods-based FORM. The volume fraction of ZnO nanoparticles and the applied voltage are the sensitive variables on the reliable levels of the nanocomposite beams.

  • Active Noise control(ANC) is rapidly becoming the most effective way to reduce noises that can otherwise be very difficult and expensive to control. This research presents ANFIS (Adaptive Network Fuzzy Inference System) controller for adaptively noise cancelling in a duct. ANC system generates secondary control sound pressure with same amplitude and with opposite phase as noise to be eliminated. ANFIS controller is trained to optimize its parameters for adaptively cancelling noise. That is ANFIS train its parameters by gradient descent and LSE method so called hybrid method. This paper present ANFIS in active noise control which provides an improvement convergence speed and limitation of linearity condition. It can model nonlinear functions of arbitrary complexity and ANFIS can construct an input-ouput mapping based on both human knowledge in the form of Takagi and Sugeno's fuzzy if-then rules and stipulated input-output data pairs. This paper also shows that the proposed ANFIS active noise control system successfully cancelled noise.

Design of Face Recognition algorithm Using PCA&LDA combined for Data Pre-Processing and Polynomial-based RBF Neural Networks (PCA와 LDA를 결합한 데이터 전 처리와 다항식 기반 RBFNNs을 이용한 얼굴 인식 알고리즘 설계)

  • In this study, the Polynomial-based Radial Basis Function Neural Networks is proposed as an one of the recognition part of overall face recognition system that consists of two parts such as the preprocessing part and recognition part. The design methodology and procedure of the proposed pRBFNNs are presented to obtain the solution to high-dimensional pattern recognition problems. In data preprocessing part, Principal Component Analysis(PCA) which is generally used in face recognition, which is useful to express some classes using reduction, since it is effective to maintain the rate of recognition and to reduce the amount of data at the same time. However, because of there of the whole face image, it can not guarantee the detection rate about the change of viewpoint and whole image. Thus, to compensate for the defects, Linear Discriminant Analysis(LDA) is used to enhance the separation of different classes. In this paper, we combine the PCA&LDA algorithm and design the optimized pRBFNNs for recognition module. The proposed pRBFNNs architecture consists of three functional modules such as the condition part, the conclusion part, and the inference part as fuzzy rules formed in 'If-then' format. In the condition part of fuzzy rules, input space is partitioned with Fuzzy C-Means clustering. In the conclusion part of rules, the connection weight of pRBFNNs is represented as two kinds of polynomials such as constant, and linear. The coefficients of connection weight identified with back-propagation using gradient descent method. The output of the pRBFNNs model is obtained by fuzzy inference method in the inference part of fuzzy rules. The essential design parameters (including learning rate, momentum coefficient and fuzzification coefficient) of the networks are optimized by means of Differential Evolution. The proposed pRBFNNs are applied to face image(ex Yale, AT&T) datasets and then demonstrated from the viewpoint of the output performance and recognition rate.

Distinguishing features and variability of intonation patterns in Korean phonological phrases: The effects of syllable count and segmental content (한국어 음운구 억양 유형의 변별적 특성과 변이 조건에 대한 연구: 음절 수와 분절음 종류의 영향을 중심으로)

  • This study identifies distinguishing features and variability of intonation patterns in Korean phonological phrases. Syllable count and segmental content, which are phonological conditions, of the intonation of phonological phrases were examined. Based on the four syllables, the intonation of a phonological phrase can be set to LHLH as the basic form, and syllable count acts as a condition for making a variation. The "3 syllables or less condition" changes the intonation from a curved line to a straight line. Variation occurs in pitch bandwidth and fluctuation according to segmental content. The first segment affects the phonological phrase formation bandwidth, and the following segment affects the pitch fluctuation. If the first segment has [+aspirate], [+tense], [+continuant], the intonation is formed in the high band, otherwise, it is formed in the low band. If the second or after segment in the intonation realized in the high band has [-aspirate], [-tense], [-continuant], the pitch is lowered to the lowest level of the low bandwidth. In the intonation realized in the low band, [+aspirate], [+tense], [+continuant] is blocked by the second descent of LHLH.

Temperature Changes of Climatic Solar Terms and Their Spatiotemporal Characteristics in South Korea (우리나라 기후 절기별 기온 변화의 시공간적 특성 분석)

  • The temperature change patterns of climatic solar terms and their climatic fitness were analyzed. Harmonic analysis based on thirty-year(1981-2010) time-series data from sixty one weather stations across South Korea showed that the central peaks of the extreme heat had shifted toward start of autumn with increasing mean temperature. The overall climatic fitness of solar terms, such as major heat, frost descent, major snow, and major cold, was low, and it showed significant regional variations. The actual meteorological phenomenon representing each climatic solar term was observed much later than the day of the solar term at most weather stations. The number of observations, where an actual meteorological condition for each climatic solar term was recorded within ${\pm}1$ week from the day of that solar term, ranged only from 7.7% to 40.4% of the entire data. Study results also showed that the climatic fitness of major heat, frost descent, and major snow gradually changed in the east-west direction. Major cold, a solar term with higher climatic fitness, was influenced more strongly by latitude than longitude. Considering geographically uneven magnitude and trends in temperature changes, rearrangement and adjustment of time intervals between the solar terms may help us improve their applicability as realistic indicators of seasonal changes.

  • Active tab is one of the promising technology for the BVI (blade-vortex interaction) noise reduction, and analysis of noise reduction performance is very important phase of the technology development. For the purpose of analysing the performance of noise reduction using active tab, CAMRAD II model for a model-scale rotor system was constructed utilizing structural design result and airfoil aerodynamic data generated by CFD (computational fluid dynamics) calculation. HHC strategy was applied to descent flight condition and air-load was calculated by CAMRAD II then variations of BVI noise was calculated by in-house program. Calculation result with respect to tab length and control phase changes showed BVI noise could be reduced by -3.3dB.

  • The potential impact of aircraft emissions on the current and projected climate of our planet is one of the more important environmental issues facing the aviation industry. Increasing concern over the potential negative effects of greenhouse gas emissions has motivated aircraft emission estimation and prediction as one of the ways to reduce aircraft emissions and mitigate the impact of aviation on climate. We obtained airline flight schedules for all the airports in Korea that are included in OAG data. Fuel burn and emission index of LTO flight which contains take off, climb and approach under 3000ft and Non LTO flight which contains climb, cruise and descent over 3000ft for all the airports in Korea in 2005 were estimated and analysed for each condition using AEIC software which has been developed by MIT Lab for Aviation and Environment.

  • The following results obtained through studies related on nose. 1. Nose is called mingtang(明堂) mianwang(面王), as it emphasize the meaning of viewing diagnosis(望診) and is called yuanpinzhimen(元牝之門), tianpinzhimen(天牝之門), qiqizhimen(七氣之門) as it emphasize the meaning of the entrance of atmosphere flow. Because it's position is the middle of face, we call tianzhongzhiyue(天中之嶽), zhongyue(中嶽). 2. As the organ of body, nose comes under the category of lung-iron(肺金), functionally comes under the category of heart-fire(心火). Functionally we can smell oder, organically nose is the pathway of respiration and to be resonator. 3. Wuzangliufu(五臟六腑) is arranged closely around the nose. The essence of wuzangliufu(五臟六腑) reflect nose, so nose becomes the standard of coloring diagnosis(色診). 4. We call nose is feihou(肺候), but it is not connected directly between the lung channel and nose. In case of lung symptom(肺證), first of all, nose become to appear the condition of lung, the lung channel and nose is close functionally. 5. The view of channels, nose is a connection with channels of yangming(陽明), bladder(膀胱), du(督脈) directly. By the connecting of each three channels, spleen stomach heart and kidney(脾胃心腎) are connected with indirectly. As the result of the relation, nose helps for body to breathe and to circulate qi(氣) and smell. And so the nature of wuzangliufu(五臟六腑) appear to the nose. 6. Particularly, the yangming channel(陽明經), and the bladder channel(膀胱經) are important. Because air-qi(天氣) reach to kidney lung through nose, ground-qi(地氣) reach to spleen stomach through mouth and yingwei(營衛) revolve through the bladder channel(膀胱經). As the result nose becomes the essential organ of circulation of yinewei(營衛), ascent and descent of qi(氣).

Effect of Shoe Heel Height on Vastus Medialis and Vastus Lateralis Electromyographic Activity During Stair Ascending and Descending (신발 뒤굽 높이가 계단 올라가기 및 내려오기 동안 내측광근과 외측광근의 근 활성도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed to investigate the effect of differing heel heights on the electromyographic (EMG) activity in vastus medialis (VM) and vastus lateralis (VL) during stair ascending and descending activities. A total of 26 healthy women volunteered to perform stair-ascending and stair-descending tasks with 3 heel heights: barefoot, 3 cm, and 7 cm. The EMG activities of the VM and VL were recorded during the tasks. During the stair ascending and descending tasks, the EMG activities of both VM and VL significantly changed with differing the heel heights (p<.05). Moreover, the EMG activities of VM and VL during the stair ascending task were significantly higher than the corresponding values during the stair-descending task (p<.05). However, there were no significant differences between the VM:VL EMG ratios for the 3 heel heights (p>.05). The VM:VL EMG ratios between the 2 tasks differed significantly in the 7 cm high heel condition (p<.05). Despite an increase in the EMG activities in both VM and VL during stair ascending and descending tasks, there was no change in the relative EMG intensities of VM and VL, which was measured by calculating the VM:VL ratio this result indicates that no VM:VL imbalances were elicited. The relative EMG intensities of VM and VL during stair descent were lower than the corresponding values during the ascent, suggesting that VM and VL may show an imbalance in the eccentric activation during the weight-acceptance phase. This study provides useful information that will facilitate future research on how heel height affects muscle activity around the knee joint.
