  • To analyze the characteristics of deposition and dispersion of volcanic ash emitted from Mt. Kirishima on January 26, 2011, several numerical simulations were carried out by using the numerical models including Weather and Research Forecast (WRF) and FLEXPART. The dispersion of ash located under 1 km high tends to be concentrated along the prevailing wind direction on January 26 2011. On the other hand, volcanic ash released on the following day spreads to Kirishima bay due to the intensified high pressure air mass in southern Kyushu. When Siberian air mass was intensified January 26, 2011, the deposition of volcanic ash is concentrated restrictedly in the narrow area along the wind direction of the downwind side of Mt. Kirishima. The development of high pressure air mass over the eruption area tends to induce the intensified horizontal diffusion of volcanic ash. Since the estimated deposition of volcanic ash is agreed well with observed values, the proposed numerical simulation is reasonable to use the assessment on the behavior of volcanic ash.

  • In this paper, we investigate $\pi$-A isotherms of biological lipid layer such as cholesterol and phosphatidyl choline to study a gas sensor characteristics which response only to specific materials. And, we also deposit it on the surface of quartz crystal by vertical dipping method and horizontal lifting method. Then, we evaluate the deposition status of cholesterol and phosphatidyl choline LB film using AT-cut quartz crystal. We obtain the following results: (1) Cholesterol's solid surface pressure is about 20$\sim$40(dyne/cm) and limiting area is about 50${\AA}^2$/molecule. And, phosphatidyl choline's surface pressure is about 25$\sim$40(dyne/cm) and limiting area is about 20 ${\AA}^2$/molecule. (2) When LB films are deposited, the deposition ratio is coincident with the frequency shift. Therefore, we can evaluate the deposition status of LB film. (3) For cholesterol, Y type LB films are deposited up to 15 layers by vertical dipping method. (4) For phosphatidyl choline, X typo LB films are deposited to 15 layers by horizontal lifting method. But, in case of vertical dipping method, the deposition status is not good.

  • In this research, the mathematical modeling of the formation of SiC layer on the activated carbon was studied to improve the durability and the oxidation resistance of catalyst supports. SiC layer on the activated carbon was formed by permeating SiC from dichlorodimethylsilane(DDS) into pores and depositing while the porous structure was kept. The best conditions of manufacturing the support were found by studying the characteristics of SiC/C which was modelled under various deposition conditions. Changes of the amount of deposition, the pore diameter, the surface area with time were obtained by simulating convection, diffusion and reaction in an isothermal reactor at a steady state. The uniform deposition in the pores of samples was obtained at a lower concentration of the reactant and a lower pressure. Additionally, it was observed that the pore diameter and the surface area have points of inflection at certain times of deposition, because deposition occurred on the inside surface of the pore at first and then on the outside surface of the particle.

  • In this study we have investigated surface morphologies of as-deposited silicon films on the various deposition conditions using LPCVD(Low Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition) System. The processing conditions such as deposition temperature, pressure and flow rate of $SiH_4$ gas were found to determine the surface morphology. The optimum temperature of maximum effective surface area increased with increasing the deposition pressure and the flow rate of $SiH_4$ gas, These experimental results were also in quite good agreement with the equation derived under the assumption that the maximum effective surface area is obtained on the condition of maximum nucleation rate.

  • Objectives: In this study, a nine-stage cascade impactor was used to collect dust, and the concentration of $PM_{2.1}$ & $PM_{10}$ and alveolar deposition ratio were investigated. Methods: This study was conducted at Kunsan National University from May to June 2016. A nine-stage Cascade Impactor was used to analyze the concentrations of fine and ultrafine dust and to estimate the alveolar deposition rate by particle size of atmospheric dust particles. The pore size of each stage of the collector used in this study gradually increased from F to 0, with the F-stage as the last stage. Results: The mass fraction of PM showed a bimodal distribution divided into $PM_{2.1}$ & $PM_{10}$ based on $2.1-3.1{\mu}m$. The average mass fraction of particulate matter in the range of $2.1-3.1{\mu}m$ was 44%, and the area occupied by $PM_{2.1}$ was similar. Therefore, the Gunsan area is considered to be a region where there are similar effects from anthropogenic and natural sources. Conclusion: Dust collecting efficiency increased with the stage of collecting fine dust, and the efficiency of collection was very low at the stage of collecting ultra-fine dust. The seasonal overall efficiency of the Cascade Impactor was 44% in spring and 37.4% in summer, and the average overall efficiency was 40.7%. The alveolar deposition rate of $PM_{2.1}/PM_{10}$ during the sampling period was estimated to be about 75% deposited in the alveoli.

  • Mist-CVD is known to have advantages of low cost and high productivity compared to ALD and PECVD methods. It is capable of reacting to the substrate by misting an aqueous solution using ultrasonic waves under vacuum-free conditions of atmospheric pressure. In particular, Ga2O3 is regarded as advanced power semiconductor material because of its high quality of transmittance, and excellent electrical conductivity through N-type doping. In this study, Computational Fluid Dynamics were used to predict the uniformity of the thin film on a large-area substrate. And also the deposition pattern and uniformity were analyzed using the flow velocity and particle tracking method. The uniformity was confirmed by quantifying the deposition cross section with an FIB-SEM, and the consistency of the uniformity prediction was secured through the analysis of the CFD distribution. With the analysis and experimental results, the match rate of deposition area was 80.14% and the match rate of deposition thickness was 55.32%. As the experimental and analysis results were consistent, it was confirmed that it is possible to predict the deposition thickness uniformity of Mist-CVD.

  • In order to investigate the daily deposition characteristics of water-soluble inorganic components in airborne deposit on the Iksan, deposition samples were collected using a deposition gauge from October 16 to November 1, 2004. Deposition samples were collected using two different sampling gauges, a dry gauge and a wet gauge, respectively. To get wet the bottom of wet gauge during the sampling period, the volume of $30{\sim}50ml$ distilled ionized water was added in a wet gauge before the beginning of each deposition sampling. Deposition samples were collected twice a day and analyzed for inorganic water-soluble anions ($Cl^-,\;{NO_3}^-,\;{SO_4}^{2-}$) and cations (${NH_4}^+,\;Na^+,\;K^+,\;Mg^{2+},\;Ca^{2+}$) using ion chromatography. Qualify control and quality assurance of analytical data were checked by the data obtained from reinjection of standard solution, Dionex cross check standard solutions, and random several deposition samples, and measured data was estimated to be reliable. Considering the deposition sample volume, the sampling time, the surface area of sampling container, and the ion concentration measured, the daily deposition amounts for measured ions were calculated in $mg/m^2$. The total daily deposition amounts of all measured ions for dry and wet gauge were $7.5{\pm}2.8$ and $17.7{\pm}4.2mg/m^2$, respectively. A significant increase in deposition amount during rainfall days was observed for both wet gauge and dry gauge, having no difference of deposition amount between in wet gauge and in dry gauge. The mean deposition of all ions measured in this study were higher in wet gauge than in dry gauge because of the surface difference of the sampling container, especially for ${NH_4}^+\;and\;{SO_4}^{2-}$. The mean deposition amounts of ${NH_4}^+\;and\;{SO_4}^{2-}$ in wet gauge were found to be about 10 times and 3 times higher than those in dry gauge, while the rest of the chemical species were equal or a little higher in wet gauge than in dry gauge. Dominant species in dry gauge were ${NO_3}^-\;and\;Ca^{2+}$, accounting for 21% and 28% of the total ion deposition, whereas those in wet gauge were ${SO_4}^{2-}\;and\;{NH_4}^+$, accounting for 19% and 41% of the total ion deposition, respectively.

  • Objectives: This paper aims to investigate the seasonal deposition characteristics of water-soluble ion species by comparing the deposition amount of two samples taken according to different sampling methods of deposition for ambient aerosol such as gases and particulate matters. Methods: Deposition samples were collected using two deposition gauges in the downtown area of Iksan City over approximately two weeks of each season in 2004. The type of deposition gauges consisted of two different sampling methods known as dry gauge and a wet gauge. The dry gauge was empty and used a dry PE bottle with an inlet diameter of 9.6 cm. Before the beginning of each deposition sampling, a volume of 30-50 ml distilled ionized water was added to the wet gauge to wet the bottom during the sampling period. Deposition samples were measured twice per day and analyzed for inorganic water-soluble ion species using ion chromatography. Results: The daily deposition amounts of all measured ions in the dry gauge and the wet gauge showed a significant increase when precipitation occurred, having no difference of deposition amount between in the wet gauge and in the dry gauge. By excluding two samples from rainy days during the sampling period, the mean daily deposition of all ions in dry gauge and wet gauge were $6.58mg/m^2/day$ and $18.16mg/m^2/day$, respectively. The mean deposition amounts of each ion species were higher in the wet gauge than in the dry gauge because of the surface difference of the sampling gauge, especially for $NH_4{^+}$ and ${SO_4}^{2-}$. The mean deposition amounts of $NH_4{^+}$ and ${SO_4}^{2-}$ in the wet gauge were found to be about 15.4 times and 5.2 times higher than that in dry gauge, with a pronounced difference between spring and summer, while the remaining ion species were 1.1-2.0 times higher in the wet gauge than in the dry gauge. Dominant species in the dry gauge were $Ca^{2+}$ and $NO_3{^-}$, accounting for 36.4% and 18.1% of the total ion deposition, whereas those in the wet gauge were $NH_4{^+}$ and ${SO_4}^{2-}$, accounting for 32.5% and 25.0% of the total ion deposition, respectively. Conclusion: The seasonal differences in deposition amounts of water-soluble ion species in ambient aerosol depending on the two types of different sampling methods were identified. This suggests that the removal of ambient aerosol is strongly influenced by the weather conditions of each season as well as the condition of earth's surface, such as dry ground and water.

  • The most prevalent cause of solar cell efficiency loss is reduced recombination at the metal electrode and silicon junction. To boost efficiency, a a SiOX/poly-Si passivating interface is being developed. Poly-Si for passivating contact is formed by various deposition methods (sputtering, PECVD, LPCVD, HWCVD) where the ploy-Si characterization depends on the deposition method. The sputtering process forms a dense Si film at a low deposition rate of 2.6 nm/min and develops a low passivation characteristic of 690 mV. The PECVD process offers a deposition rate of 28 nm/min with satisfactory passivation characteristics. The LPCVD process is the slowest with a deposition rate of 1.4 nm/min, and can prevent blistering if deposited at high temperatures. The HWCVD process has the fastest deposition rate at 150 nm/min with excellent passivation characteristics. However, the uniformity of the deposited film decreases as the area increases. Also, the best passivation characteristics are obtained at high doping. Thus, it is necessary to optimize the doping process depending on the deposition method.

  • Since the first obserbvation of carbon nanotubes, extensive researches have been done for the synthesis using arc discharge, laser vaporization, and plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition. Carbon nanotubes have unique physical and chemical properties and can allow nanoscale devices. Vertically aligned carbon nanotubes with high quality on a large area is particularly important to enable both fundamental studies and applications, such as flat panel displays and vacuum microelectronics. we have grown vertically aligned carbon nanotubes on a large area of Si substrates by thermal chemical vapor deposition using C2H2 gas at 750-950$^{\circ}C$. we deposited catalytic metal on Si susbstrate using thermal evaporation. The nanotubes reveal highly purified surface. The carbon nanotubes have multi-wall structure with a hollow inside and it reveals bamboo structure agreed with base growth model. Figure 1 shows SEM micrograph showing vertically aligned carbon nanotubes whih were grown at 950$^{\circ}C$ on a large area (20mm${\times}$30mm) of Si substrates. Figure 2 shows TEM analysis was performed on the carbon nanotubes grown at 950$^{\circ}C$ for 10 min. The carbon nanotubes are multi-wall structure with bamboo shape and the lack of fringes inside the nanotube indicates that the core of the structure is hollow. In our experiment, carbon nanotubes grown by the thermal CVD indicate base growth model.
