In this study, we studied the photocatalytic functionality such as deodorant, antibacterial, antistatic of polyester fabrics treated with visible-light responsive photocatalyst. According to UV/visible spectrometry result, the UV-visible peak of visible-light responsive photocatalyst was found to be red shift at 420 nm sensitive in the visible light region. Also, the deodorizing and antimicrobial performance were shown to be retained more than 99% both before washing and even after 25 times washing. According to washing durability of polyester fabrics treated with visible-light responsive photocatalyst, the reduction effects for gas such as ammonia, trimethylamine, formaldehyde and toluene after 25 times washing appeared to be retained as much as before washing. At both before washing and after 25 times washing, antistatic property showed frictional voltage of approximately 250V.
Degummed and bleached soybean oil was deodorized at a temperature range of $220{\sim}280^{\circ}C$ under the vacuum (4-5 torr) for 1 or 2 hrs. Gas chromatography with SP-2560 100 m capillary column was used to separate and quantitate fatty acid methyl esters and their isomers. Fatty acids were identified by comparing retention time with standards and GC-MS spectrum. The isomers of linoleic acid and linolenic acid in deodorized soybean oils were identified to be $C_{18:2}\;{\Delta}9-cis,\;{\Delta}12-trans,\;C_{18:2}\;{\Delta}9-trans,\;{\Delta}12-cis,\;C_{18:2}\;{\Delta}9-cis,\;{\Delta}12-cis,\;C_{18:3}\;{\Delta}9-cis,\;{\Delta}12-cis,\;{\Delta}15-trans,\;C_{18:3}\;{\Delta}9-trans,\;{\Delta}12-cis,\;{\Delta}15-cis,\;C_{18:3}\;{\Delta}9-cis,\;{\Delta}12-trans,\;{\Delta}15-cis,\;and\;C_{18:3}\;{\Delta}9-cis,\;{\Delta}12-cis,\;{\Delta}15-cis$. The formation of trans-fatty acids by deodorization at $240{\sim}280^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs was in the range of 1.78 to 5.74%. Conclusively, the deodorizing conditions of $240^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs or $250^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr were suggested as the best conditions which could minimize the formation of trans isomers of fatty acids in soybean oils.
The distributions and characteristics of bacteria on the deodorizing biofilters were studied as a part of biofiltration research for odor gas removal. The odor gas originated from a currently operating nightsoil treatment plant were mainly nitrogenous compounds of ammonia and amines. The filter media were consisted various ratio of pine bark, nightsoil cast and compost, and were sampled before and after operation of 153 days. Before operation, the level of bacteria on nitrification agar medium, nutrient agar medium and thiosulfate agar medium were around $10^7{\sim}10^8cfu/g$ media. After operation, the level decreased but still high as $10^5{\sim}10^7cfu/g$ media. The bacteria from reactors before and after operations were either rod or coccus after growth on nitrification agar media. The 45 isolated heterotrophic bacteria were further characterized and Pseudomonas, Bacillus, Flavobacterium, Alcaligenes were dominant genera. Genus Alcaligenes was particularly dominant when the isolates were incubated on nitrification agar media first and then transfered to nutrient media. The portion of Alcaligenes in the biofilter increased after operation, and was higher in the media contained nightsoil cast, which showed better treatment than the media with pine bark only.
This study was carried out to screen yeasts effective in reducing odor from pig feces. Three isolates from soil and compost sources were selected to treat pig feces. On the basis of morphological and biochemical characteristics, one isolate from compost was Candida rugosa, and two isolates from soil were Candida rugosa and Candida maris. These isolates showed deodorizing activity by reducing the concentration of ${NH}_3$ and R-${NH}_2$. Volatile fatty acids (VFA) are the specific malodorous compounds of pig feces, and the Candida maris from soil showed a 100% reduction of butyric, iso-butyric, and iso-valeric acid in 10% pig slurry medium. However, the Candida rugosa from compost showed a 100% reduction of butyric and iso-butyric acid while that from soil showed a 100% reduction of propionic, butyric acid and iso-valeric acid in the medium. Also, these yeasts were effective in reducing $NH_{4}-N$, soluble-N, and biological oxygen demand (BOD).
The purpose of this study is to investigate the dyeability and functional properties of dyed fabric with the extract of Myrica rubra rind. For this purpose, the ultraviolet and visible spectra of the bark extracts were investigated. The dyeing temperature, dyeing time, mordant type, mordanting order, mordant concentration and dyeability were investigated. The color fastness based on washing, dry-cleaning, rubbing and light were evaluated by the types of Myrica rubra rind extract used. In addition, the deodorization and antibacterial activity were measured, and the functionality of the silk fabric dyed with the extract of the Myrica rubra rind was evaluated. The result shows that the color strength of the dye was excellent when the Myrica rubra rind was dyed at $80^{\circ}C$ for 80 minutes. The mordant dye color strength was high in the order of Fe mordant> Cu mordant> Al mordant. The dyeability of Al and Cu mordant was high during pre-mordanting compared to Fe mordant, and the dyeability of Fe mordant was high during post-mordanting than Cu and Al mordant. The deodorant property of the dyed fabric stained with the Myrica rubra rind extract was 92.4% and that of antibacterial property was 99.9% for Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria respectively.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the decomposition efficiency of $NH_3$ odor gas using high frequency surface discharge body. The results from this study are as follows; 1, Voltage and frequency of electric elements have effects on removal of $NH_3$ odor. The higher these two elements were set up, the more efficiently deodorizing processing worked. In this experiment, the optimum voltage and frequency applicable were observed around AC 6.0 kVp-p and 24.0 kHz respectively. 2. The temperature, humidity and residence time were observed strong variables for NH$_3$ removal process. Its performance had limits at high temperature and humidity conditions. The longer the residence time continued, the more efficiently deodorization process worked. The experimental results showed that the deodorization was efficiently processed under such conditions as $30.0^{\circ}C$ in temperature, 60rh% in humidity and 0.3 sec in residence time. 3. It was observed that in deodorization experiment, $NH_3$ odor gas was perfectly decomposed under the concentration condition below 15.0ppm. Moreover it was considered as economic and practical in terms of maintenance cost when compared with other deodorization methods.
In this paper, we propose a forgery/falsification detection technique of web site using the images. The proposed system captures images of the web site when a user accesses to the forgery/falsification web site that has the financial information deodorizing purpose. The captured images are compared with those of normal web site images to detect forgery/falsification. The proposed system calculates similarity factor of normal site image with captured one to detect whether the site is normal or not. If it is determined as normal, analysis procedure is finished. But if it is determined as abnormal, a message informs the user to prevent additional financial information spill and further accidents from the forgery web site.
Objectives: This study was carried out to investigate the characteristics of odors emitted from sewage in a sanitary sewer and its outlets. Methods: The concentration of mal-odorous sulfur was analyzed by gas chromatograph, and odor intensity was estimated by an on-site sensory test. Odor intensity calculated from instrumental analysis results was compared with odor intensity observed at field. Results: As a results, the concentration of $H_2S$ ranged from 2.4 ppb to 5,889 ppb (average 703 ppb), while $CH_3SH$, $(CH_3)_2S$, and $(CH_3)_2S_2$ showed from 10 ppb to 554 ppb (average 119 ppb) and from 20 ppb to 332 ppb (average 70 ppb) and from 2.7 ppb to 8.1 ppb (average 5 ppb) individually. Average odor intensity observed in the field was degree three. Odor intensity calculated from sulfur compound concentration was confirmed as similar to the observed odor intensity because the coefficient of variance between the observed and the calculated intensities was less than one. Conclusion: It was expected that the results of this study will be helpful to design a deodorizing device to reduce odor emissions from sewerage facilities in the future.
This paper describes blower performance characteristics of a automated vacuum waste collection system. Blowers serially connected to six or seven centrifugal blowers are evaluated by experimental measurements to understand blower performances according to blower numbers operated. Two different blowers and duct diameters connected to the main blowers are considered. Data acquisition system is introduced to measure pressure and pressure difference at the main duct simultaneously, which is connected to several blowers serially. A auxiliary blower, which is installed between a filter room and an air deodorizing apparatus, is also added to simulate its performance effect on the main blower. Throughout the experimental measurements of the blower system, it is found that pressure and inlet velocity at the upstream of a blower increase 3.7 and 2.4 times separately by increasing the operating blower numbers from one to seven. It is noted that blower efficiency and pressure measured at the system vary according to the distance between a air intake and a blower system. Auxiliary blower is effective to increase blower inlet suction pressure, while total energy consumption is increased relatively.
For the utilization of polyunsaturated fatty acids in sardine (Sardinops melanosticta) oil, mainly as a source for dietary supplement of eicosapentaenoic acid(EPA) and docosahe-xaenoic acid(DHA), the effects of refining and storage, conditions, and addition of stabili-zing agents on the storage stability of EPA condensed and refined sardine oil were tested. Refined, sardine oil deacidified, decolored, and deodorized, was more stable to autoxidation than crude or partially purified oils such as deacidified or/and decolored. The refined sardine oil must be kept at $5^{\circ}C$ or lower temperture for longer than two month storage. The addition of $0.018\%\;\alpha-tocopherol$ or BHT could enhance the stability to autoxidation, and EDTA or citric acid was useful as synergist. Especially the addition of $0.02\%$ citric acid to the oil still hot after deodorizing process ($125^{\circ}C$) was of benefit to stabilize the refined oil.
