Purpose : This study aimed to find out the effects of treatments on the surface of Zirconia. Methods : To this end, we selected six treatments that have been used widely: steam cleaning, 2bar & 6bar sand blasting, grinding by green stone point, grinding by diamond bur, and grinding by diamond bur with water spray. Results : The results of our study showed that monoclinic rate increased from all six treatments. Monoclinic rate varied by treatments, ranged from 0.6% (steam cleaning) to 6.5% (6bar sand blasting). These values from all six treatments were below ISO 13356 standard, which is 25%. Also, we found that two treatments (green stone point and diamond bur) increased roughness of surface of Zirconia. Conclusion : This study concluded that phase changes of Zirconia were not significant by using six treatments we employed.
Purpose: This study is to evaluate the accuracy of gypsum replica models made from various gypsum products. Methods: One main model was made of stainless steel by CNC milling process. Molds were formed from the main model, and the gypsum replica models were made using 8 types of type IV gypsum, 10 pieces each. The main model was digitized by a contact scanner (Incise; Renishaw) and the gypsum replicas were digitized by an optical scanner (E4; 3Shape A/S). The difference between the main model and the gypsum replicas were measured by inspection software (3D Systems). One-way ANOVA was performed to evaluate the statistical significance of differences between groups. In addition, the independent sample T test was performed to determine the difference between the conventional and scannable stone group (n=10, α=0.05). Results: The root mean square of the stone models were 7.24 ㎛ to 10.78 ㎛, and statistical significance was found between the two groups (SR, FR) and the other 6 groups (IS, SG, CA, CS, ER, EBG) (p<0.05). The accuracy of the gypsum replicas was 9.04 ㎛ and 7.62 ㎛ in the conventional and scannable stone group, respectively. There was statistical significance between the two groups (p<0.01). Conclusion: In the limited results of this study, the product with low setting expansion and the scannable showed high accuracy. Therefore, in order to obtain a stable and accurate scan model, it is more effective in terms of accuracy to use a scannable stone with a low setting expansion.
PURPOSE. The aim of this study is to compare the casts obtained by using conventional techniques and liquid crystal display (LCD) three-dimensional (3D) print techniques in the All-on-4 treatment concept of the edentulous mandibular jaw. MATERIALS AND METHODS. In this study, a completely edentulous mandibular acrylic cast (typodont) with bone-level implants placed with the Allon-4 technique served as a reference cast. In this typodont, impressions were taken with the conventional technique and dental stone casts were obtained. In addition, after scanning the acrylic cast in a dental laboratory scanner and obtaining the Standard Tessellation Language (STL) data, 3D printed casts were manufactured with a 3D printing device based on the design. The stone and 3D printed casts were scanned in the laboratory scanner and STL data were obtained, and then the interimplant distances were measured using Geomagic Control X v2020 (3D Systems, Rock Hill, SC, USA) analysis software (n = 60). The obtained data were statistically evaluated with one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's pairwise comparison tests. RESULTS. As a result of the one-way ANOVA test, it was determined that the stone casts, 3D printed casts, and reference cast values in all distance intervals conformed to the normal distribution and these values had a significant difference among them in all distance intervals. In Tukey pairwise comparison test, significant differences were found between casts at all distance intervals. In all analyses, the level of significance was determined as .05. CONCLUSION. 3D printed casts obtained with a 3D LCD printing device can be an alternative to stone casts when implants are placed in edentulous jaws. [J Adv Prosthodont 2022;14:379-87]

Purpose: This study was performed to measure the accuracy of adjustable dental impression trays by a scanning laser three-dimensional digitizer. Materials and methods: The metal stock, individual, and adjustable stock trays were used for 60 stone casts(10 casts each) duplicated a resin master model of mandible and maxilla. The type IV dental stone was poured in a vinyl polysiloxane impressions and allowed to set for one hour. The master model and the duplicated casts were digitized using an optical digitizer. The distance between the reference points were measured and analyzed on the graphic image of 3-D graphic software(CATIA version 5.0). The statistical significance of the differences between the groups was determined by a two-way ANOVA. Results : There were no significant differences between the accuracies of the adjustable stock tray and the master model except only anterior arch width on the upper arch and the diagonal arch length and arch length on one side of the lower arch. Conclusion: The adjustable stock trays showed clinically acceptable accuracies of the study cast produced by them.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze and compare the relative accuracy of digitized stone models of lower full arch, using two different scanning system. Methods: Replica stone models(N=20) were produced from lower arch acrylic model. Twenty digital models were made with the white light and blue LED($Medit^{(R)}$, Korea) scanner. Two-dimensional distance between the landmarks were measured on the Delcam $CopyCAD^{(R)}$(Delcam plc, UK). Independent samples t-test was applied for comparison of the groups. All statistical analyses were performed using the SPSS software package(Statistical Package for Social Sciences for Windows, version 12.0). Results: The absolute disagreement between measurements made directly on the two different scanner-based dental digital models was 0.02~0.04mm, and was not statistically significant(P>0.05). Conclusion: The precision of the blue LED optical scanner was comparable with the digitization device, and relative accuracy was similar. However, there still is room for improvement and further standardization of dental CAD technologies.
PURPOSE. The present study investigated the influences of various gypsum materials on the precision of fit of CAD/CAM-fabricated prostheses and analyzed their correlation with surface roughness. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The master model of the mandibular right first molar was replicated, and four experimental groups based on two types of Type IV stone (GC Fujirock EP, Die keen) and two types of scannable stone (Aesthetic-Basegold, Everest Rock) were created to include a total of 40 specimens, 10 in each group. The surface roughness of the working models for the respective experimental groups was measured. Once the zirconia cores had been fabricated, the marginal and internal fits were measured with a digital microscope using the silicone replica technique. The mean and standard deviation of the respective points of measurement were computed and analyzed through the one-way ANOVA and Tukey's HSD test. The correlation between surface roughness and the precision of fit of the zirconia core was analyzed using the Pearson correlation analysis (${\alpha}$=.05). RESULTS. The zirconia cores fabricated from the scannable stone working models exhibited a superior precision of fit as compared to those fabricated from the Type IV stone working models. The correlation analysis results showed a clear positive correlation between surface roughness and the precision of fit of zirconia cores in all of the experimental groups (P<.05). CONCLUSION. The results confirmed that the surface roughness of dental working models has a decisive influence on the precision of fit of zirconia cores.
PURPOSE. Surface finishing of a zirconia restoration is essential after clinical adjustment. Herein, we investigated the effects of a surface finishing protocol for monolithic zirconia on final roughness and bacterial adherence. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Forty-eight disk-shaped monolithic zirconia specimens were fabricated and divided into four groups (n = 12) based on initial surface treatment, finishing, and polishing protocols: diamond bur+polishing bur (DP group), diamond bur+stone grinding bur+polishing bur (DSP group), no diamond bur+polishing bur (NP group), and no diamond bur+stone grinding bur+polishing bur (NSP group). Initial and final surface roughness was measured with a profilometer, and shown using scanning electron microscope. Bacterial adhesion was evaluated by quantifying Streptococcus mutans in the biofilm. Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests were used to compare results among groups, and two-way analysis of variance was used to evaluate the effects of grinding burs on final roughness (${\alpha}=.05$). RESULTS. The DP group had the highest final Ra value, followed by the DSP, NP, and NSP groups. Use of the stone grinding bur as a coarse-finishing step significantly decreased final Ra values when a diamond bur was used (P<.001). Omission of the stone grinding bur increased biofilm formation on specimen surfaces. Combining a stone grinding bur with silicone polishing burs produced the smallest final biofilm values, regardless of the use of a diamond bur in initial surface treatment. CONCLUSION. Coarse finishing of monolithic zirconia with a stone grinding bur significantly decreased final Ra values and bacterial biofilm formation when surfaces had been roughened by a diamond bur.

Introduction: Sialolithes are initiated by localized deposition of calcified material in the salivary glands. And that may even cause various symptom especially swelling and pain. This study purposes to collect statistical data of sialolithiasis for clinical analysis. Materials and Methods: Among forty seven patients who have visited Seoul National University Dental Hospital during 2004-2009, patients' age, sex, location and size of stone, radiodensity of stone, symptom, surgical procedure were investigated. Statistical correlation between size, location, symptom was evaluated. Chemical composition was analyzed for 3 sialolithes. Results: The average age was 41.4 years. Sialolithiasis had slight female predilection (57.4%). Most cases occurred in the submandibular glands (91.5%). And most cases had radiopaque features (95.8%). The average size was 7.17 mm. The most frequent location of the stones were the duct orifice and the submandibular gland hilum (16 cases in each), followed by the middle part of the duct (n=8), the intraglandular area (n=4), and the proximal part of the duct (n=3). Eleven cases were asymptomatic. Thirty six cases had complaints of pain, swelling, hardness, and decrease in saliva flow (multiple symptoms). Various methods of surgery was performed. Two cases were self-removed. Thirty seven cases underwent procedure involving stone removal alone. Six cases underwent gland extirpation, and two cases underwent ductoplasty. Conclusion: There was no statistical correlation between size, location, and symptoms. Sialolith was composed of Ca (58.5-69.3%), P (30.7-35.7%), organic material, and trace inorganic material.
