Objectives : The aim is to examine what a selective factor of dental institution in the elderly is, which can be used as a strategy for vitalizing hospital management, and which difference there is in selection of dental institution according to health-promotion lifestyle. Methods : Questionnaire survey of individual interview was carried out targeting 177 old people in over 65 years old of Jeonju, Iksan, and Gunsan in Jeollabuk-do Province by convenience sampling from August 16, 2010 to August 27. The analysis was performed by using SPSS WIN 12.0 program. Results : 1. The average mark of health-promotion lifestyle in the elderly was 2.69 points. The health responsibility was the highest with 2.91 points. 2. The mark of health-promotion lifestyle was higher in the higher educational level of the elderly(p<0.01), when monthly income is more than 2 million won(p<0.01), and in the better subjective awareness of oral condition(p<0.01). 3. The group with high mark of health-promotion lifestyle regarded reliability(p<0.001), economic efficiency(p<0.01), and facilities & cleanliness(p<0.01) as important factors when selecting dental institution. Conclusions : The development and expansion in health-promotion program targeting the elderly are seen to be necessary that reflect difference by sphere in health-promotion lifestyle. There will be necessity for pursuing even a strategy for the elderly in the group who have relatively low characteristic in the practice level of health-promotion lifestyle. Also, given understanding characteristics on the elderly and focusing on management proper for the needs of medical consumers, the successful medical management is thought to be likely possible.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine factors affecting the effective demand of workers for dental treatment in a bid to provide some information on the improvement of oral health. Methods : The subjects in this study were 255 workers who were engaged in the pharmaceutical industry. A self-administered survey was conducted, and the collected data were analyzed by a spss(statistical package for the social science) win 12.0 program to find out their demographic characteristics, oral health awareness, oral health behavior and factors for the choice of a dental institution. Results : 1. Concerning the level of oral health awareness, 47.0 percent were at a low level(0 to three scores), and 35.2 percent were at an intermediate level(four to six scores). 2. As to oral health behavior involving a daily mean toothbrushing frequency, they brushed their teeth 2.65 times per day on the average. The most widely utilized oral hygiene supply was mouth rinse. Regarding oral health status, 53.7 percent weren't in good dental health, and just 23.0 percent got a dental checkup on a regular basis. 45.8 percent of those who didn't get a dental checkup cited time constraints as the reason. 26.0 percent received oral health education, and 91.4 percent were aware of the necessity of a corporate incremental dental care system. 3. Marital status, age and the reliability of dental institutions made differences to their choice of a dental institution. 4. As for the relationship between oral health awareness and the factors for the choice of a dental institution, oral health awareness had a statistically significant positive correlation to the reliability of dental institutions. Conclusions : The above-mentioned findings suggest that oral health education enables workers to have a correct knowledge on oral health, to change their own oral health behavior and to make the right choice of a dental institution in consideration of their oral characteristics. They should be urged to get a regular dental checkup not to develop chronic oral diseases so that they couldn't have to receive first-aid dental treatment. To promote the oral health of workers, oral health care personnels available should be utilized, and the incremental dental care system should be more vitalized to cut down on their effective demand for dental treatment.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to improve the practice level on dental hygienists'infection prevention by examining the actual condition of dental hygienists'infection control and analyzing factors of having influence upon this. Methods : A questionnaire survey was carried out from July 18, 2011 to August 26 targeting dental hygienists who work at medical institutions where are located in Daegu, Busan and Ulsan Metropolitan Cities and Gyeongsangnam buk-do. After then, the following conclusions were obtained. Results : 1. As a result of surveying practice by item in the practice level of infection prevention, the items with high practice level in the management of infectious diseases were surveyed to be 12 months(89.6%) for health-checkup cycle and to be having experience of vaccination(78.0%) for hepatitis type B. The items with high practice level in the management and practice of washing hands were indicated to be in order of regularly paper towel(87.7%) and hands cleaning after regular medical examination(80.5%). In the item of the practice on wearing and managing individual protection equipment, regularly wearing(93.1%) rubber globes given washing implements was indicated to be high. 2. As a result of analyzing working career, working institution, working region, and practice level of infectious-disease management, the appearance of fulfilling infection control guidelines at medical institution and the experience of education for infection control were indicated to have difference depending on working institution. Regularly health checkup was indicated to have difference depending on respondents' working career and working institution. 3. The whole average in the practice level of infection prevention according to working career, working institution, and working region was indicated to be 2.55 out of 3-point perfection. 4. Wearing latex gloves was indicated to have statistically significant difference depending on working institution(p<0.001) and working region(p<0.001). The exchange of latex gloves every patient and the use of paper apron had statistically significant difference depending on working region(p<0.001). 5. As a result of comparing the frequency of using protection equipment for preventing infection according to the management of infectious diseases, the statistically significant difference was shown depending on the appearance of infection control guidelines at medical institution(p<0.001), the appearance of having experience of health checkup(p<0.01), and the appearance of having experience of vaccination for hepatitis type B(p<0.05). Conclusions : The above-mentioned findings showed that the denture satisfaction of the denture-wearing senior citizens was linked to their subjective oral health awareness. Therefore it will be possible to improve denture-wearing elderly people's quality of life when oral health plans geared toward boosting their denture satisfaction are carried out.

Usage of the rubber dam has been advocated by countless number of dentists. The advantages of the rubber dam such as the following are well-known 1. Moisture control. 2. Improved field of vision. 3. Ease of approach. 4. Soft tissue retraction and Injury prevention. 5. Prevention of aspiration of materials or instruments. 6. Shortened chair time. 7. Induction of nasal breathing during administration of $N_2O-O_2$ sedation. Recent reports indicate the rubber dam can protect the dental staffs from the infection when treating HBV or HIV positive patients. Also, improved moisture control and freeing of both hands allowed by the rubber dam makes it very useful when bonding orthodontic brackets. This case study presents the various clinical application of the rubber dam on patients visiting SNUDH dept. of pediatric dentistry to emphasize the importance of its use in pediatric dentistry.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relevance of stress and stress amounts of physical environment factors and interpersonal factors of clinical practice institution of dental hygiene department students. It is in order to create condition to focus on clinical practice institution. Methods: The participants in this study were 231 dental hygiene department students engaged in clinical practice; the survey was conducted from September 1 to 30, 2018, using a structured questionnaire (1040460-A-2018-036). The questionnaire consisted of items on participants' general characteristics (4 items), characteristics of the clinical practice institution (9 items), stress from environmental factors (8 items), stress from interpersonal factors (7 items), and stress amounts of BEPSI (5 items). The collected data were compared and analyzed using a t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression. Results: The physical environment and interpersonal factors of stress according in clinical practice institutions were statistically significant. In case of a number of dentists (p<0.05), subjective practice atmosphere (p<0.001), practice satisfaction (p<0.001), and kindly teach (p<0.001). The factors affecting the amount of stress on the characteristics of the clinical practice institution were that the dental clinic, the relationship with the dental hygienist is common, the number of dentists is 4 or more, and there is no resting room. Conclusions: The selected clinical practice institutions should provide dental hygiene department students with places to relax and a systematic hands-on manual.
Purpose: Identify the factors that influence following up control and reuse intention of patient who used dental health care institution after dental heath care service and in order to prepare the method which improve the quality of dental health service which dental heath care institution service afford. Methods: Data were collected through random sampling from June 20th to August 20th 2010 (for 60 days). Once we explained the purpose of our survey to people who experienced the dental service within one year, we distributed the questionnaires to someone who volunteered to respond and they answered all questions by themselves based on the actual experience of dental health care organizations. Even if the survey was conducted for 610 people, only 585 properly answered questionnaires were analyzed because responses which had many unanswered questions and had errors in responsive way were excluded. Results: Result of multiple regression analysis, the value of dental clinic service, the following up control after dental treatment, the technique and kindness of dentist, the environment of treatment, type of dental service and the kindness of dental staff is significant main cause to intention of reuse dental clinic. Conclusion: In order to increase the rate of patient reuse, enhance the value of service with following up control after health treatment and the high quality of dental health service.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors affecting antibiotic prescription in dental outpatients. Methods: The present study was conducted using data from the National Health Insurance Service - National Sample Cohort. We analyzed prescriptions issued in the dental outpatient department in 2015, for adults over 19 years of age. Antibiotic prescription rates and mean prescription days were analyzed by sex, age, insurance type, presence of diabetes mellitus and hypertension, season in treatment, type of dental institution, and location of dental institution. Multivariate logistic regression was also performed to analyze the factors affecting antibiotic prescription in dental outpatients. Results: A total of 257,038 prescriptions were analyzed. The mean prescription days of antibiotics in dental outpatients were $3.04{\pm}1.08days$, and the prescription rate was 93.0%. Two variables (presence of diabetes mellitus and insurance type) were excluded from the multivariate logistic regression analysis model because they did not significantly affect antibiotic prescription. The possibility of antibiotic prescription was higher in men ${\geq}61years$ of age and those with hypertension. Furthermore, antibiotics were most frequently prescribed in dental clinics rather than dental hospitals, and more frequently in Busan compared to other areas (p<0.001). Conclusions: Several factors were determined to affect antibiotic prescription, and detailed guidelines for consistent antibiotic prescription are needed.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze the clinical practice experience and environment of dental hygiene students, and to determine how these factors relate to their dental hygiene professionalism. The aim was to provide data necessary to improve the clinical practice environment and promote professionalism in dental hygiene. Methods: A survey was conducted in August 2023 among dental hygiene students from five randomly selected universities in the metropolitan area. Data analysis methods included t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The main influencing factors of dental hygiene professionalism were the quality of instruction in the clinical practice, opportunities for learning, preparedness for students, and satisfaction with the practice institution (p<0.05). There was a significant positive correlation between the clinical practice environment and all sub-items of dental hygiene professionalism (p<0.05). Conclusions: The results of this study emphasize that the choice of practice institution is very important to enhance dental hygiene professionalism, and close collaboration between universities and practice institutions is highlighted to improve the quality of clinical practice guidance and opportunities for participation.

The first permanent molar takes important place in the occlusion. Malposition of the lower first molar is frequently due to mesial migration, which is occurred by early exfoliation of the second deciduous molar or proximal caries of deciduous teeth. Above things happen without any consideration of space maintainer, prompt measures for space regaining have to be started. Especially in the case with early loss of the second deciduous molar, it has been said that there is no suitable appliance for maintaining the space before the eruption of the permanent first molar. In distalizing the upper first molar, headgears have been routinely used, which its result was definitely depended on cooperation of the patients. Nowadays, appliances such as pendulum appliances, K-loop, magnets, which can be used without cooperation of the patients, are introduced. Jones Jig, one of the molar distalizing appliances, was used on the patients who visited department of pediatric dentistry in Seoul National University Dental Hospital complaining of no eruption space for the lower second bicuspid. Either removable splint or lingal arch was used as the anchorage. Jones Jig was favorably used in the lower molar, where vestibule is shallow, and this is a case report on the satisfactory result thereof.
Objectives : This research identified the frequency and satisfaction level of the observation and performance practice during the clinical practice process conducted by dental hygiene students. With the goal of providing base data required for the development and operation of increasingly effective clinical practice program and for the improvement of the existing clinical practice training. Methods : The subjects in this study were 278 students of a university located in Masan. Survey comprised of 49 questions in 10 clinical practice domains was conducted. Results : 1. As for the observation practice by each grade, there was significant difference in oral radiology, pediatric dentistry, periodontology, oral surgery(p<0.05). As for the performance practice executed for each grade, there was significant difference in the oral radiology, preventive dentistry and oral surgery(p<0.05). As for the satisfaction level for each grade, there was significant difference in basic medical service(p<0.05). 2. As for the observation practice by each clinical practice institution, there was significant difference in oral medicine, oral radiology, preventive dentistry, prosthodontics, pediatric dentistry, orthodontics and oral surgery(p<0.05). As for the performance practice executed by each practice institution, there was significant difference in basic medical service, oral medicine, oral radiology, operative dentistry, prosthodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery(p<0.05). As for the satisfaction level by each practice institution, there was significant difference in the oral radiology, preventive dentistry, operative dentistry, prosthodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery(p<0.05). Conclusions : As for the satisfaction level for the clinical practice, basic medical service is the crimary care clinical practice which is most basic and that is executed the most in a dental clinic. Satisfaction level was the highest in the domains where there were extensive observation and practice frequency. By conducting observation and practice frequency in the clinical practice process by each clinical practice domain in a broad and diverse manner, it would be possible to improve the ability of the clinical practice trainees who improve their clinical work execution capability and satisfaction level on the clinical practice.
