  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of sedentary time on quality of life and oral health-related behaviors using the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. A total of 19,983 data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS 25.0 program, and complex sample logistic regression analysis was performed to confirm the effect of sedentary time on health-related quality of life and oral health-related behaviors. As a result, the longer the sitting time, the worse the quality of life (p<.05). There was an increase in the number of cases of not brushing (p<.05). Also, as for dental treatment, the longer the sitting time, the more prophylactic treatment and periodontal treatment increased (p<.05). Therefore, it is judged that it can be used as basic data to improve the quality of life and increase oral health-related behaviors in consideration of the socio-demographic characteristics of prolonged sedentary time.

The subjects were 19 years older who had Periodontitis and Cardiovascular Disease(hypertension, angina, myocardial infarction, stroke) The final 14,940 subjects were analyzed using SPSS (SPSS 23.0 Windows). Chi-quare test and complex sample logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the demographic characteristics, health behaviors, and Cardiovascular Disease and presence or absence of periodontitis. Results were related to hypertension, angina, myocardial infarction and stroke. The prevalence of periodontal disease was 0.684 times lower in the absence of hypertension. Men, age, education, pre-sleep brushing, floss and interdental toothbrushes were statistically significant. As a result, it is necessary to improve health behavior and systematic management of both diseases, and to help develop preventive education programs between diseases in the future.

  • Objectives: Oral health management is important to improve the quality of life among the elderly. This study investigated the performance of elderly oral health management among some care workers in long-term-care hospitals. Methods: The study subjects were 174 care workers in 10 long-term-care hospitals. Data on general characteristics of care workers, attitude, recognition and knowledge of elderly health, performance of elderly oral health management were collected by a self-administered questionnaire. Data were analyzed through descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, correlation and multiple regression analysis by using a SPSS version 23.0 statistical program. Results: The performance score of oral health management was $4.34{\pm}0.64$ on the 5-point Likert scale. The subjects who exercised more than 2 times a month were significantly higher in their performance of elderly oral health management compared to subjects who did not exercise (${\beta}=0.232$, p=0.035). And, the subjects who cared 10-19 persons were significantly higher in performance of elderly oral health management compared to subjects who cared more than 20 elderly (${\beta}=0.246$, p=0.020). The oral health behavior of care worker (${\beta}=0.271$, p<0.001) and the knowledge of oral health care (${\beta}=0.055$, p=0.008) were positively related to the performance of elderly oral health management. Conclusions: The educational program designed to improve knowledge of care workers in accordance with the standard textbook for training care workers should be developed, and the long term education program should be reinforced to improve the performance for elderly oral health care. If care workers can care a proper number of old persons, they will give oral health care to them.

The data of the 2013 community health survey were used, and the data of 55,632 patients who suffered from hypertension and who were at the ages of 19 and over was analyzed. The analying methods used in this study were chi-square test and multiple logistic regression analysis. Gender, age, marital status, education, economic activity, income level and subscription to private medical insurance were identified as the factors to affect the perceived periodontal disease of the hypertension patients, and lifestyle and oral health behaviors were found to have exerted a significant influence on perceived periodontal disease. As this study found that not only the socioeconomic characteristics of the hypertension patients but their oral health care and lifestyle were all correlated with perceived periodontal disease, how to promote the oral health of those who are susceptible to periodontal diseases should carefully be considered.

The senior citizens who ever received oral health education had a better knowledge(p<0.05) and took a better attitude(p<0.01). 3. As for a time for toothbrushing, many brushed their teeth after breakfast(74.9%) and dinner(71.8%). Utilized Oral hygiene devices were interdental brushes(21.5%), dental floss(13.8%). The rate of regular scaling was higher in the elderly groups that ever received oral health education and whose knowledge scores was above the average(p<0.05). 5. In relation to the necessity of oral health education, 87.2% felt the need for that, and as many as 79.0% intended to receive that education. Their favorite period of education was 6months(41.0%), and the greatest group hoped to receive that education for an hour(55.4%). The largest group wanted to learn about prevention of oral diseases, followed by toothbrushing, denture management, dry mouth. • It is important to practice preventive method to control oral disease. Dental caries tendency has been decreased in developed countries, but early childhood caries(ECC, BBTD) became serious dental problems in many countries. To slove these problems, more positive and definite prenatal programs on infants and child are needed. Mostly the control of oral health was affected by a mother's knowledge and behavior in this stage. According to many studies, prenatal education is the most effective method to promote oral health in children. But in Korea, there is little oral health education programs for pregnant women, nursing mothers, infants and children. The purpose of this study was to access the knowledge and opinions of caries prevention among gravid women. 330 pregnant women(primiparae=181, multiparae=149), aged 23 to 39 years were randomly selected at prenatal health education courses in Seoul, Korea, 2000. Face-to-Face interviews were conducted by a trained interviewer using questionnaires included demographics, attitude toward children's dental cares, knowledge of early childhood caries, knowledge concerning pregnancy and oral health. The obtained results were as follows; (1) Most respondents were very concerned about their children's oral health. (2) 58% of the respondents were unaware of early childhood caries and the proportion was significantly higher among primipara (p<0.05). (3) Only 43% of the respondents believed that improper breast feeding could develop ECC, the proportion was significantly higher among primipara(p<0.05). (4) 82% of the respondents reportedly believed that the fetus takes away calcium from the mother's teeth during pregnancy. (5) 71% of the respondents believed that dental treatment during pregnancy was unsafe. There is a relatively low level of accurate knowledge regarding infant nutritions, maternal need for oral health and dental caries prevention among pregnant women. Oral health education and promotion programs that are science-based are needed for gravid women.

  • To examine the relationship between occurrence of oral malodor and smoking, drinking, oral health behavior characteristics. A total of 144 adults were measuring the malodor by use of Oral Chroma volatile sulfur compounds. Data were analyzed with t-test, one-way of variance and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 12.0. hydrogen sulfide($H_2S$) was indicated to be so higher concentration in the group of carrying out scaling sometimes than the regularly group(p<0.01). methyl mercaptan($CH_3SH$) was indicated to be higher concentration in previous smoker than non-smoker and smoker(p<0.05), smoking for over 20 years was higher than the under 20 years group(p<0.05). The group of drinking over 5 times a week was indicated to have higher concentration than the under once-twice a week group(p<0.01). The group of not toothbrushing before going to sleep had higher concentration than the group of toothbrushing before going to sleep(p<0.05). The group of scaling sometimes was indicated to have higher concentration than the group of scaling regularly(p<0.05). dimethyl sulfide($(CH_3)_2S$) was indicated to be higher concentration in the group with over 2 bottles of Soju than in the group with under 1 bottles of Soju(p<0.01). The regular scaling will need to be carried out in the preventive dimension for managing oral malodor. The guidance on non-smoking and moderation in drink will need to be surely included.
