Cantilever retaining wall movements generally depend on the intensity and duration of ground motion, the response of the soil underlying the wall, the response of the backfill, the structural rigidity, and soil-structure interaction (SSI). This paper investigates the effect of material properties on seismic response of backfill-cantilever retaining wall-soil/foundation interaction system considering SSI. The material properties varied include the modulus of elasticity, Poisson's ratio, and mass density of the wall material. A series of nonlinear time history analyses with variation of material properties of the cantilever retaining wall are carried out by using the suggested finite element model (FEM). The backfill and foundation soil are modelled as an elastoplastic medium obeying the Drucker-Prager yield criterion, and the backfill-wall interface behavior is taken into consideration by using interface elements between the wall and soil to allow for de-bonding. The viscous boundary model is used in three dimensions to consider radiational effect of the seismic waves through the soil medium. In the seismic analyses, North-South component of the ground motion recorded during August 17, 1999 Kocaeli Earthquake in Yarimca station is used. Dynamic equations of motions are solved by using Newmark's direct step-by-step integration method. The response quantities incorporate the lateral displacements of the wall relative to the moving base and the stresses in the wall in all directions. The results show that while the modulus of elasticity has a considerable effect on seismic behavior of cantilever retaining wall, the Poisson's ratio and mass density of the wall material have negligible effects on seismic response.
The purpose of this research was to three-criteria landuse-pattern, developing density, NDVI which were related to the heat island and find the distribution characteristic of urban surface temperature and urban heat island effects. The results of this study were as follows. According to the analysis of surface temperatures, the first grade was the outside-city like a mountain and its temperature was less than $12.18^{\circ}C$. The fifth grade was the downtown industrial area and its temperature was more than $23.54^{\circ}C$. It means Daegu-Metropolitan-City has the serious heat-island effect. the results of landuse pattern analysis, in case of fifth and forth grade, city area was occupied over 90% with residential, commercial and industrial areas, but in case of third grade, openspace was occupied over 70%. The results of developing density analysis, the temperature had high correlation with building ratio, road ratio, vegetation ratio and etc. To plan for the decrease of heat island effect needed the extension of green space, decrease of paving, but there was a limit to get the objective method for grade classification because of lacking in the basic data, the research of criteria will be accomplished continuously.
The red tide-causing flagellate Chattonella anticfua can cause mass fish kills by their clogging in fish gills. Thisstudy examined the nutrient requirements of C. antiqua isolated from Korea. C. anticfua displayed maximum growthat the day five, followed by a decrease in cell density. Nitrate and nitrite were the preferred nitrogen sources, alonewith adenosine diphosphate for phosphorus compounds. In medium that contained ammonium, a significantdecrease in cell density was observed. Half-saturation constants, Ks, calculated from the maximum growth ratewere 4.94 U|M for NC>3 and 0.79 flM for P04. The growth of C. antiqua was not within the function of the N:P ratio (RU= 0.29). With an N:P ratio as low as 10, the increase in cell density was apparent, with a higher division rate. At lev-els above 50 fiM of NaNOg or 8 ;uM of NaHUPCU, the growth rates were somewhat decreased. Phosphate was thelimiting factor for C. antiqua growth since the starvation of phosphate had brought about a rapid decrease in celldensity in semi-continuous culture. Studies about the temporal modification of the efficiency of nitrate or phosphateuptake may be necessary to explain the bloom dynamics of C. antiaua.
This study was carried out to investigate the properties of woodceramics made from woody part of Broussonetia Kazinoki at different impregnation ratios of phenolic resin of 40, 50, 60, 70%. The physical and mechanical properties increased with increasing impregnation ratio. The highest mean values of density, bending strength, Brinell hardness and compressive strength were 0.66 g/$cm^3$, 53 kgf/$cm^2$, 187 kgf/$cm^2$, 126 kgf/$cm^2$, respectively. There were close correlations between density and bending strength, Brinell hardness and compressive strength, and between MOE and MOR.

An approximate analytical solution for the initial transient process of close-contact melting occurring between a phase change material kept at its melting temperature and an isothermally heated flat surface is derived. The model is so developed that it can cover both rectangular and circular cross-sectional solid blocks. Normalization of simplified model equations in reference to the steady solution enables the solution to be expressed in a generalized form depending on the liquid-to-solid density ratio only. A selected result shows an excellent agreement with the previously reported numerical data, which justifies the present approach. The solution appears to be capable of describing all the fundamental characteristics of the transient process. In particular, dependence of the solid descending velocity oft the density ratio at the early stage of melting is successfully resolved. The effects of other parameters except the density ratio on the transient behaviors are efficiently represented via the steady solution implied in the normalized result. A simple approximate method for estimating the effect of convection on heat transfer across the liquid film is also proposed.

Round shape Bi2212/Ag is isotropic and can be fabricated Rutherford cable to transport high current. Bi2212/Ag round wires with various Ag ratio were fabricated using powder-in-tube process. Double stacked 385 (55\times$7) filamentary wire of various wire diameter was heat-treated at various melting temperature. Wires which have Ag ratio of 0.3 and 0.42 of Ag tube for monofilament show similar critical current density. As average filament diameter decreases from 33 to 16 \mu$m, critical current density of wires increase, and in case of 16 ${\mu}m$ and $T_m$ 890$^{\circ}C$, critical current density was 2,062 $A/mm^2$ at 4.2 K, 0 T.

Recently, the reason of using foamed concrete is for core of panel, filler of construction material to give lightness. However, cement causes environmental problem. The cement generates CO2 but we normally use cement during manufacturing foamed concrete. Accordingly, this study focuses on dynamic properties of matrix according to the addition ratio of paper ash to make lightweight matrix with blast furnace slag and paper ash which are industrial by-product. The experiment progessed in order to select th optimum mixing ratio of the blast furnace slag and paper ash. There are totally 7 levels such as B100:P0, B95:P5, B90:P10, B85:P15, B80:P20, B75:P25, B70:P30 in this study. As a result of the test, B95:P5 matrix has the best density and compressive strength.
Oxide layers were prepared by an environmentally friendly plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) process on an Al-1050 substrate. The electrolyte for PEO was an alkali-based solution with $Na_2SiO_3$ (8 g/L) and NaOH (3 g/L). The influence of the electrical parameters on the phase composition, microstructure and properties of the oxide layers formed by PEO were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The voltage-time responses were recorded during various PEO processes. The oxides are composed of two layers and are mainly made of ${\alpha}$-alumina, ${\gamma}$-alumina and mullite phases. The proportion of each phase depends on various electrical parameters. It was found that the surface of the oxides produced at a higher current density and Ia/Ic ratio shows a more homogeneous morphology than those produced with the electrical parameters of a lower current density and lower Ia/Ic ratio. Also, the oxide layers formed at a higher current density and higher Ia/Ic ratio show high micro-hardness levels.

Characteristics of microcrystalline-silicon thin-films deposited by plasma-enhanced chemical-vapor deposition (PECVD) method were studied. There were optimum values of RF power density and $H_2$ dilution ratio $(H_2/(SiH_4+H_2))$; maximum grain size of about 35 nm was obtained at substrate temperature of 250 $^{\circ}C$ with RF power density of 1.1 W/$cm^2$ and $H_2$ dilution ratio of 0.91. Larger grain was obtained with higher substrate temperature up to 350 $^{\circ}C$. Grain size dependence on RF power density and $H_2$ dilution ratio could be explained by etching effects of hydrogen ions and changes of species of reactive precursors on growing surface. Surface-mobility activation of reactive precursors by temperature could be a reason of grain-size dependence on the substrate temperature. Microcrystalline-silicon thin-films that could be used for flat-panel electronics such as active-matrix organic-light-emitting-diodes are expected to be fabricated successfully using these results.

LED lighting systems that combine lighting capability, emotional and physiological characteristics are required for lighting source and multifunctional applications. In this work, Simulation studies using optical analysis software packages, Light Tools, are presented. This is done to estimate the uniformity ratio of illuminance and photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) of the periodic 2D lattice arrangements, such as square, diamond, two-way bias quadrangular, hexagonal, and Kagome lattices, under the same transmissivity, absorptance and reflectivity. It has been found out that the two-dimensional Kagome lattice arrangement exhibited high uniformity ratio of illuminance and PPFD compared to other lattices. Accordingly, these results can be used to guide a design and improve the lighting environment which in turn would maximize the uniform distributions of illuminance.
