This paper derives the two-dimensional probability distribution and density functions of morphological dilation and erosion of a one-dimensional memoryless source and reports numerical results for a uniform source, thus providing methodology for joint distributions for other morphological operations. The joint density functions expressed in closed forms contain the Dirac delta functions due to the joint discontinuity within the dilation and erosion. They also exhibit symmetry between these two morphological density functions of dilated and/or eroded sources, in the computation of other higher moments thereof, and in multidimensional quantization.

This paper describes the design theory of a weakly-coupled Tap-off with high density of coupling intervals for CATV and/or MATV systems, by which the degree of freedom in design and density of coupling intervals are significantly increased compared with the intrinsic one. It is also described how to construct the two-way divider (Tap-off) in the generalized type. Furthermore, the practical measurements of the frequency characteristics for a fabricated circuit show very good agreements with theoretical results.

In this paper, an iterative restoration algorithm from power spectral density with 1 bit sign information of real part of two dimensional Fourier transform of image corrupted by additive white Gaussian noise is proposed. This method is a modified version of image reconstruction algorithm from power spectral density. From the results of computer simulation with original 32 gray level imgae of 64x64 pixels, we can find that restorated image after each iteration converge to original image very fast, and SNR gain be at least 8[dB] after 10th iteration for corrupted image with additive white Gaussian noise.

This paper presents low latency and/or computation algorithms of iterative codes of turbo codes, turbo product codes and low density parity check codes for use in wireless broadband communication systems. Due to high coding complexity of iterative codes, this paper focus on lower complexity and/or latency algorithms that are easily implementable in hardware and further accelerate the decoding speed.

In this paper, we introduce the optimal approximation by a Gaussian function for a probability density function. We show that the approximation can be obtained by solving a non-linear system of parameters of Gaussian function. Then, to understand the non-normality of the empirical distributions observed in financial markets, we consider the nearly Gaussian function that consists of an optimally approximated Gaussian function and a small periodically oscillating density function. We show that, depending on the parameters of the oscillation, the nearly Gaussian functions can have fairly thick heavy tails.

As a part of the study on manufacture of low density paper by organic bulky agent treatment, the effects of cationic fatty acid bulky agent on physical and optical properties of handsheets were elucidated. The research on change of physical and optical properties of paper samples according to bulky agent concentration, pulp type, and pulp combination were carried out. The results demonstrated that an increase of the concentration of cationic fatty acid bulky agent was proportional to an increase of the bulky properties of paper samples while tensile strength decreased. Also, the more the treated concentration of cationic fatty acid bulky agent increased, the more the ISO brightness of paper samples decreased while the opacity increased. The effectiveness of bulky agent with softwood bleached kraft pulp (SwBKP) was higher than that with hardwood bleached kraft pulp (HwBKP). In addition, the effectiveness with mixed pulps was higher than that with single pulp.

In this paper, we derived estimators of reliability P(Y < X) and the distribution of ratio in the bivariate exponential density. We also considered the means and variances of M = max{X,Y} and m = min{X,Y}. We finally presented how E(M), E(m), Var(M) and Var(m) are varied with respect to the ones in the bivariate exponential density.

In this paper, a synchronous permanent magnet planar motor (SPMPM) with Halbach array is proposed for its high energy density. The magnetization and flux density distribution are obtainedby magnet scalar potential the characteristics such as inductance, back-EMF and thrust are evaluated. It can be concluded that the analysis of SPMPM with Halbach magnet array is credible and feasible.

This study is to find the proper method of estimating urban road traffic capacity. To estimate road traffic capacity, the following methods are chosen ; 1) crossing point of Q-V and S-V, 2) critical velocity and density of Q-V-K model, 3) V-K model with density parameter. The density estimated through S-V relation is 174 veh./km. The methods used in this paper yields more stable values with 2286 veh./h/ in average. The estimated average capacity by three methods are 2272 veh./h. in multilane road. 2411 veh./h in three lane road and 2185 veh./h. in two lane road.

In this paper, a new symbol timing algorithm for a magnetic recording system as HDD, is proposed. Above all, the Lorentzian channel model applied, the distortion and the attenuation problems of playback signals at high speed and storage density were considered. The structure and the operation of popular data detectors for HDD were understood, and the adopted symbol timing algorithm were profoundly analyzed. On the basis of these understanding and analysis, a new symbol timing algorithm for high density HDD was proposed, and the performance evaluation of this proposed algorithm was done.
