Effects of Nitrogen Source and Organic Matter on Growth and Quality of Zoysia japonica Steud. (질소 급원과 유기물 시용이 들잔디의 생육 및 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to search for growth and quality -of turfgrass by Nitrogen source (Urea Ammonium sulphate) and organic matter, and to obtain methods of pr6per turfgrass management by the results. This experiment was conducted in turf field from 1988 to 1989. The results of this experiment was summarized as follows; 1.Without application of organic matter, turfgrass growth between urea and ammonium sulphate was not significant, however ammonium sulphate resulted in superior to urea in total dry weight when organic matter was applied. 2.The addition of organic matter showed significant effect on color rating and visible quality, and ammonium sulphate was higher quality than urea. 3.Shoot density increased, particularly in ammonium sulphate treatment, when organic matter was applied. 4.Rhizome and stolon were shown significant effect in urea treatment by the application of organic matter. 5.Surface soil pH was allowed to become slightly acid by the ammonium sulphate treatments, but soil acidity remained mostly unaffected when organic matter was supplied. 6.Total nitrogen of log tissue and organic matter content increased when organic matter w-as applied.

Testing Web Feeding Model for Star Formation in Galaxy Clusters in the COSMOS Field

  • It is yet to be understood what controls the star formation activity in high-redshift galaxy clusters. One recently proposed mechanism is that the star formation activity in galaxy clusters are fed by gas and galaxies in large-scale structures surrounding them, which we call as "web feeding model". Using galaxies in the COSMOS2015 catalog, with mass completeness at log(M/M⦿)≥9.54 and reliable photometric redshift data (σΔz/(1+z) ≲ 0.01), we study the star formation activities of galaxy clusters and their surrounding environment to test the web feeding model. We first identify the overdense regions with number density exceeding the 4σ-level from photometric redshift data as galaxy clusters, and we find that they are well matched with clusters identified in the X-ray extended source catalog. Furthermore, we identify galaxy large scale structures, and will present the correlation or anti-correlation between quiescent galaxy fraction, an indicator of star-forming activity, and the prevalence of galaxy large scale structures.

  • Throughout the studies the following experimental results were obtained and summarized. 1. Treatment of MVE virus with acetone, Tween-ether and Tween-ether-protamine sulphate caused an eight to 16 fold increase in HA activity. 2. Treatment with acetone and Tween-ether resulted in a four fold increase in CF activity. Treatment with Tween-ether-protamine sulphate decreased the activity. 3. The crude virus showed a complete loss of infectivity after treatment with Tween-ether, but three log unit was, decreased with acetone treatment. 4. The HA activity of treated and crude virus was disappeared after heating at $37^{\circ}C$ for 60 minutes but CF activity was increased. 5. Tween-ether or acetone treatment equally applicable to the preparation of haemagglutinin for HI test. 6. Zonal centrifugation of crude virus in a linear ten to 60 percent sucrose gradient showed two peaks of CF activity, and one of high buoy ant density part accompanied by HA activity and infectivity and the other of lower density part. Acetone treatment brought a decrease of the high density CF activity but not affected the second peak of low density found with crude virus, and resulted in increased HA activity and decreased infectivity. The peaks of HA, CF and infectivity after acetone treatment were not clearly separated. Tween-ether treatment caused a loss of the peak of CF activity found in the area of high density with crude virus, but the peak in the area of low density was not affected. This peak of CF activity was separated from noninfectious HA activity. The HA and CF activities were considered to be contributed by different parts of the varion.

Uncertainty Assessment of Emission Factors for Pinus densiflora using Monte Carlo Simulation Technique (몬테 카를로 시뮬레이션을 이용한 소나무 탄소배출계수의 불확도 평가)

  • The purpose of this study was to calculate uncertainty of emission factor collected data and to evaluate the applicability of Monte Carlo simulation technique. To estimate the distribution of emission factors (Such as Basic wood density, Biomass expansion factor, and Root-to-shoot ratio), four probability density functions (Normal, Lognormal, Gamma, and Weibull) were used. The two sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and cumulative density figure were used to compare the optimal probability density function. It was observed that the basic wood density showed the gamma distribution, the biomass expansion factor results the log-normal distribution, and root-shoot ratio showd the normal distribution for Pinus densiflora in the Gangwon region; the basic wood density was the normal distribution, the biomass expansion factor was the gamma distribution, and root-shoot ratio was the gamma distribution for Pinus densiflora in the central region, respectively. The uncertainty assessment of emission factor were upper 62.1%, lower -52.6% for Pinus densiflora in the Gangwon region and upper 43.9%, lower -34.5% for Pinus densiflora in the central region, respectively.

Sterilization Effect of the Ion-exchanger Filter Using by Radiation Graft Polymerization (방사선 그라프트 중합법을 이용한 이온교환 필터의 살균효과)

  • We studied the pasteurization effect of the microorganism involved in the water, using ion-exchanging filter made of the Radiation Induced Grafted Polymerization. This ion-exchanging filter is made by the graft polymerization of GMA, after irradiation of electron beam to the non-woven filter. Then, we made the ion-exchanging filter (EtA, DEA, SS) applying ion-exchanging base to the GMA filter. As a result, the density of the ion-exchanging base is shown as 2.38 mol/kg in case of EtA, 1.79 mol/kg in case of DEA and 0.75 mol/kg in case of SS. Through this filter made by this method, we measured the pasteurization power of E. coli. We found very high elimination rate such as log 4.65 in case of SS-dial filter, which is higher as 3.00 times in comparison with EtA, and 1.10 times in comparison with DEA. This data show the result is very excellent comparing with 3,000 CFU/ml. of city water treatment basis.

  • Bisphenol A (BPA) is commonly used in the production of pharmaceutical, industrial, and housing epoxy, as well as polycarbonate plastics. Owing to its extensive use, BPA can contaminate the environment either directly or through derivatives of these products. BPA has been classified as an endocrine disruptor chemicals (EDCs), and the primary toxicity of these EDCs in males involves the induction of reproductive system abnormality. First, in order to evaluate the direct effects on the Y chromosome associated with reproduction, we evaluated Y chromosome abnormalities using a Y chromosome microdeletion detection kit. However, we detected no Yq abnormality as the result of BPA exposure. Secondly, we performed high-density oligonucleotide array-based comparative genome hybridization (CGH) to assess genomic alteration as a component of our toxicity assessment. The results of our data analysis revealed some changes in copy number. Seven observed features were gains or losses in chromosomal DNA (P-value<1.0e-5, average log2 ratio>0.2). Interestingly, 21 probes of chr7:7312289-10272836 (qA1-qA2 in cytoband) were a commonly observed amplification (P-value 3.69e-10). Another region, chr14:4551029-10397399, was also commonly amplified (P-value 2.93e-12, average of log2 ratios in segment>0.3786). These regions include many genes associated with pheromone response, transcription, and signal transduction using ArrayToKegg software. These results help us to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying the reproductive effects induced by BPA.

EUV Imaging Spectroscopic Study of a CME Source Region by HINODE EIS

  • The Extreme ultraviolet Imaging Spectrometer (EIS) on board Hinode provide us with excellent imaging spectroscopic data with very good spatial and spectral resolutions, which can be used for detecting Doppler flows in transition region and coronal lines as well as diagnosing plasma properties such as temperature, density, and non-thermal velocity. In this study we have made an EUV-imaging spectroscopic study of the source region of a partial halo coronal mass ejection (CME) that occurred on 2007 July 9 in NOAA 10961. Dopplergrams are obtained before and after the CME eruption using 12 EIS spectral lines (Log T= 4.9~7.2). Major results are summarized as follows. First, it is noted that either red shifts disappeared or blue shifts newly appeared for all spectral lines lower than Log T =6.0. Second, there were significant intensity increases for all wavelengths. Third, there were no significant variations in non-thermal motions for all wavelengths. We found one interesting bright point that newly appeared after the CME eruption. We discuss the implication on the results in terms of the CME eruption.

Effect of Ozone Water to Reduce Pathogenic Microorganisms on Chopping Board (도마표면의 병원성미생물 제어를 위한 오존수 처리효과)

  • The efficacy of ozone water in reducing food-borne pathogenic bacteria on High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and wooden chopping boards in food industry was investigated in this study. 1-5 log reductions of E. coli O157:H7, S. aureus, S. Typhimurium, and B. cereus were observed with increasing concentrations of ozone water. The immersion treatment evidenced superior capability to inactivate food-borne pathogens than washing treatment. The Gram-negative bacteria, such as E. coli O157:H7 and S. Typhimurium, evidenced lower resistance against ozone water than was seen with the gram-positive bacteria, which included S. aureus and B. cereus. The sterilizing effects of ozone water on HDPE chopping boards was superior to that on wooden boards. This result might be utilized to remove food-borne pathogens from food contact surfaces in the food industry.

The Association of Metabolic Syndrome and Vitamin D and Urine Microalbumin in Korean Adults (대한민국 성인에서 대사증후군, 비타민 D 및 뇨 중 미세알부민의 관련성)

  • The aim of this study was to assess the association of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and vitamin D and urine microalbumin (MA) in Korean adults. The study subjects were Korean adults 20 years or older (n=4,948). A covariance test adjusted for covariates was performed for urine MA levels in relation to vitamin D status (vitamin D deficiency, vitamin D insufficiency, vitamin D sufficiency). The key study results were as follows: First, in subjects without MetS, after adjusting for related variables (age, gender, smoking, drinking, regular exercising, wast measurement, body mass index, total cholesterol, triglycerides, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, fasting blood glucose, and glomerular filtration rate), vitamin D levels were inversely associated with Log-MA levels (p<0.001). Second, in subjects with MetS, after adjusting for related variables, vitamin D levels were not associated with Log-MA levels (p=0.892). In conclusion, vitamin D was inversely associated with urine MA levels in Korean adults without MetS, but not in Korean adults with MetS.

Dyeing Characteristics and Mechanical Properties of High Tenacity Polyethylene(HTPE) Filament using Solvent Dyes (솔벤트 염료를 이용한 고강도 폴리에틸렌(HTPE) 필라멘트사의 염색성 및 기계적 물성 평가)

  • High tenacity polyethylene(HTPE) fiber is one of the most important synthetic fibers which possesses outstanding properties such as low density, excellent surface hardness and scratch resistance, superior electrical insulation and low cost. In this study, we dyed high tenacity polyethylene filaments using three different solvent dyes based on log P calculations. We evaluated the dyeing characteristics of dyed high tenacity polyethylene filaments based on dyeing temperature, dyeing time and concentration of solvent dyes. We also analyzed the tensile strength and elongation properties of dyed high tenacity polyethylene filaments with various dyeing temperature and dyeing times. The optimized dyeing condition can be found at $120^{\circ}C$ for dyeing time of 1 hour with 4%(o.w.f.) of solvent dyes.
