  • Electrically debonding adhesives[EDA], one of the controlled delamination materials[CDM] is reviewed. CDM can be defined as the ability to separate adhesive bonded assemblies without causing damage to the substrates. Its application includes electronics, medical surgery, dentistry, building and general manufacturing where the opportunity to separate assemblies is important. There are several important mechanisms of EDAs; faradaic reaction, phase separation and anode detachment, cathodic debonding, gas emission mechanism, and mechanical stresses. These mechanisms are reviewed with various research results. Since the mechanism behind the electrochemical debonding of adhesives is not well understood, this review aims to help the research scientists in the industries. Finally, new applications of EDA are introduced as new business opportunity.

  • Glass/phenolic composite laminates have been used in the field of non-flammable light rail transit and their applications have expanded more widely. Low velocity impact tests have been used to evalute the effect of temperature and acceleration aging on low velocity impact response of phenolic matrix composites reinforced with woven E-glass fabric. The damage of matrix cracking and delamination are suddenly reduced the compressive strength after impact. The damage area increases with increasing temperature and impact energy. UT C-scan is used to determine damage areas by impact loading. Therefore, all this observations indicate reduced impact damage resistance and damage tolerance of the laminates at elevated temperature.

  • Reinforced concrete beams or slabs are often strengthened or repaired using polymer modified cement concrete Stresses can develop in the structure by ambient temperature changes because thermal coefficients of the repair material and the existing concrete are typically different. Especially, shear stress often causes debonding of the interface. In this study, a rational procedure was developed where anchors can be designed in strengthened or repaired concrete members to prevent debonding at the interface. The current design procedure considers thicknesses and elastic moduli of the repair material and existing concrete, ambient temperature change, length, and beam-vs.-slab action. The procedure is also applicable to stresses developed by differential drying shrinkage.

  • Many non-destructive inspection methods have recently been developed for concrete structures. However, these methods can obtain only physical information of concrete, such as crack depth, delamination or position of reinforcement etc. near its surface. If chemical information is required, sampling and componential analyses may be earned out. Non-destructive method that can detect deterioration factors such as carbonation, chloride content or sulfate attack would be an outstanding innovation in inspection methodologies. In this research, near-infrared spectroscopy and X-ray fluorescence analysis were applied for componential analysis for concrete. These methods are very effective compared to traditional methods, therefore, working efficiency and maintenance cost will be improved.

  • In hydro-generator, a groundwall insulation of stator windings gradually deteriorates due to mechanical, thermal, electrical and environmental stresses. These stresses combine to result in loose windings, delamination of the stator insulation and/or electrical tracking of the endwinding, all of which can lead to stator insulation failures. Conventionally, off-line tests such as partial discharge measurement, DC/AC current and .DELTA.tan.delta. tests has been used for estimation of winding condition. However, off-line test requires large power supply and generator outage. In addition, major cause of insulation problems such as loose wedges and slot dischages may not be found with off-line diagnoses. This paper introduces the on-line partial discharge measurement techniques using frequency spectrum analyzer(FSA) for the generator stator windings. The experimental results from the UIAM #1 hydro-generator confirms a optimistic application of on-line generator diagnosis method as a reliable tool for evaluation of winding condition.

  • The effect of mixing ratio on the corrosion protection of carbon steel coated by a film composed of poly(vinylidene) fluoride (PVDF) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was examined using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Surface crystallization behavior and thermal properties of the PVDF/PMMA coated carbon steel were evaluated using polarized optical microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry, respectively. A Maltese cross-pattern spherulite crystal was observed in the PVDF/PMMA coating film, which became more apparent with increasing PVDF content. The highest corrosion protection performance was achieved with 60 wt.% PVDF-coated carbon steel, and delamination and corrosion reactions were observed for 20 wt.% PVDF-coated carbon steel. Further, corrosion protection performance with an amorphous/crystal mixture (PVDF/PMMA, 60/40 (w/w)) was better than those observed in the amorphous domain and the perfect-crystal domain of the PVDF/PMMA blended coating system.

  • This study demonstrated the feasibility of tape casting method to fabricate soda borosilicate glass-coated stainless steel electrostatic chucks(ESC) for low temperature semiconductor processes. The glass coatings on the stainless steel substrates ranged from 100 $\mu\textrm{m}$ to 150 $\mu\textrm{m}$ thick. The adhesion of the glass coatings was found to be excellent such that it was able to withstand moderate impact tests and temperature cycling to over 300$^{\circ}C$ without cracking and delamination. The electrostatic clamping pressure generally followed the theoretical voltage-squared curve except at elevated temperatures and higher applied voltages when deviations were observed to occur. The deviation is due to increased leakage current at higher temperature and applied voltage as the electrical resistivity drops.

  • In AC PDP, electrodes are covered with dielectric layer and the discharge is formed on the surface of the dielectric layer. MgO protection layer on the dielectric layer in PDP prevents a dielectric layer from sputtering and lowers the firing voltage due to a large secondary electron emission yield( ${\gamma}$ ). Until now, the MgO protection layer is mainly prepared by E-beam evaporation. However, there are some problems that is easy pollution and change of its characteristics with time and delamination. Therefore, in this study, MgO protection layer is prepared on dielectric layer by reactive R.F. magnetron sputtering with MgO target. Discharge characteristics and secondary electron emission coefficients of PDP are studied as a parameter of preparation conditions. Discharge voltage characteristics of the prepared MgO layer can be stable and improved by the annealing process in vacuum chamber.

  • We preliminarily describe the basic characteristics of the low-sulfidation epithermal gold deposits in East China. It can be divided into granite- and alkaline rock-related types. These gold deposits are structurally controlled by caldera, craters, diatremes and related faults, hosted in volcanic rocks, and characterized by alterations of adularia, chalcedony, quartz, sericite and calcite assemblages. The ore-forming ages are within three pulses of 180-188 Ma, 135-141 Ma, and ca. 120 Ma, which are geodynamically corresponding the collision orogenic process between North China and Yangtze cratons, transformation of the tectonic regime, and delamination of the lithosphere, respectively.

  • In this paper, an experimental study on the effects of the impact damage and the perforation characteristic of CFRP laminates with different fiber stacking orientation and ply number was done through an observation of interrelations between the impact energy vs. transmitted energy and the impact energy vs. absorbed energy per unit volume. The velocities of the ball before or after impact are measured by the high-speed camera. And when CFRP laminates are subjected to tranverse impact by a steel ball(${\phi}10$), the delamination shapes generated by impact damage are observed by using SAM (Scanning acoustic Microscope).
