The size-resolved number concentrations of aerosols ranging from 0.3 to 25 $mu extrm{m}$ were observed in Seoul and Anmyondo in the west coast of Korea during an Yellow Sand phenomenon in April 1998. Number size distributions of aerosols observed in both places are characterized by decrease in small particles of diameter less than 1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and increase in large size between 1.35 and 10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in heavy dust period. For particles in this size range, there was a good correlation between number concentrations observed in both places during the Yellow Sand episode. On the other hand, the number of small particles less than 0.82${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ decreased, but the correlation between these particles in both places was enhanced during more intense dust period. The number of coarse particle larger than 10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ showed a distince diurnal variation without a significant change in amplitude, which was more visible in Seoul. It suggests that these coarse particles were more affected by local sources. Form these results, it was range of 1~10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ originated possibly from the dust source regions and the source signature depended on the degree of dust intensity.
Traditional service-level agreements (SLAs), defined by average delay or packet loss, often camouflage the instantaneous performance perceived by end-users. We define a set of metrics for service availability to quantify the performance of Internet protocol (IP) backbone networks and capture the impact of routing dynamics on packet forwarding. Given a network topology and its link weights, we propose a novel technique to compute the associated service availability by taking into account transient routing dynamics and operational conditions, such as border gateway protocol (BGP) table size and traffic distributions. Even though there are numerous models for characterizing topologies, none of them provide insights on the expected performance perceived by end customers. Our simulations show that the amount of service disruption experienced by similar networks (i.e., with similar intrinsic properties such as average out-degree or network diameter) could be significantly different, making it imperative to use new metrics for characterizing networks. In the second part of the paper, we derive goodness factors based on service availability viewed from three perspectives: Ingress node (from one node to many destinations), link (traffic traversing a link), and network-wide (across all source-destination pairs). We show how goodness factors can be used in various applications and describe our numerical results.

The results from the Individual Plant Examination of External Event of Yonggwyang nuclear power plants, unit 3 & 4, in Korea have shown that the high degree of diversities of the experts' opinions on seismicity and attenuation models is su, pp.sed to be generic cause of uncertainty of APEs(annual exceedance probability) in the PAHA(probabilistic seismic hazard analysis). This study investigated the sensitivity of the focal depth, which is one of the most uncertain seismicity parameters in Korea, Significant differences in resultant values of annual exceedance probabilities and much more symmetrical shape of the resultant PDFs(probability density functions), in case of consideration of focal depth, are found. These two results suggest that, even for the same seismic input data set including the seismicity models and ground motion attenuation models, to consider focal depth additionally for probabilistic seismic hazard analysis evaluation makes significant influence on the distributions of uncertainties and probabilities of exceedance per year for the whole ranges of seismic hazard levels. These facts suggest that it is necessary to derive focal depth parameter more effectively from the historical and instrumental documents on earthquake phenomena in Koran Peninsula for the future study of PSHA.

A multi-layered brick element fur the finite element method is developed for analyzing the three-dim-ensionally layered composite structures subjected to both thermal and mechanical boundary conditions. The element has eight nodes with one degree of freedom for the temperature and three for the display-ements at each node, and can contain arbitrary number of layers with different material properties with-in the element; the conventional element should contain one material within an element. Thus the total number of nodes and elements, which are needed to analyze the multi-layered composite structures, can be tremendously reduced. In solving the global equation, a partitioning technique is used to obtain the temperature and the displacements which are caused by both the mechanical boundary conditions and temperature distributions. The results by using the developed element are compared wish the commercial package, ANSYS and the conventional finite element methods, and they are in good agreement. It is also shown that the Number of nodes and elements can be tremendously reduced using the element without losing the numerical accuracies.
This article represents a first step in a large study aimed at elucidating the relationship between production and perception involved in sound change of /o/ in (Seoul) Korean. In this paper we present the results of a production study and a perception experiment. For the production study we examined vowel production data of 20 young adult speakers, measuring the first and second formants, then conducted a discriminant analysis based on those values. In terms of their F1-F2 values, the distribution of /o/ and /u/ were close, and even overlapping in some circumstances, which is consistent with the literature. This tendency was more apparent among the female speakers than the males. Moreover, with the females' distributions, /o/ was frequently categorized as /u/, suggesting that the direction of the sound change is indeed increasing from /o/ to /u/. Next, to investigate the effects of this proximity on perception, we used the production data of five randomly selected speakers from the production study as stimuli for a perception experiment in which 21 young adult native speakers of (Seoul) Korean performed a vowel identification task and provided a Goodness rating on a 5-point scale. We found that while rates of correctness were high, when these correctness scores were weighted by the Goodness rating, these "weighted correctness" scores were lower in some cases, indicating a degree of confusion in distinguishing between the two vowels.
The factors that influence ablation resistance in fiber composites are properties of the reinforced fiber and matrix, plugging quantity of fiber, geometrical arrangement, crack, pore size, and their distributions. To examine ablation resistance according to distribution of crack and pore size that exist in carbon/carbon composites, this study produced various sizes of unit cells of preforms. They were densified using high pressure impregnation and carbonization process. Reinforced fiber is PAN based carbon fiber and composites were heat-treated up to $2800^{\circ}C$. The finally acquired density of carbon/carbon composites reached more than $1.932\;g/cm^3$. The ablation test was performed by a solid propellant rocket engine. The erosion rate of samples is below 0.0286 mm/s. In conclusion, in terms of ablation properties, the higher degree of graphitization is, the more fibers that are arranged vertically to the direction of combustion flame are, and the less interface between reinforced fiber bundle and matrix is, the better ablation resistance is shown.

In this paper, the design and fabrication of slot array in the broad wall of the waveguide for Ka-band monopulse radar are discussed. The aperture distributions are designed for the desired antenna gain, beamwidth and Side-lobe Level(SLL), and then slot parameters, such as lengths and offsets, are obtained for corresponding to each slot admittance in the equivalent circuit by using Elliot's array synthesis procedure. MWS-CST simulation shows the return loss below -10 dB, antenna gain above 32 dBi, 3 dB beamwidth of 3.7 degree and SLL of -20 dB. In order to demonstrate the expected results, the designed antenna is fabricated and measured.
Data for teat number for Landrace (L), Yorkshire (Y), crossbred of Landrace and Yorkshire (LY), and crossbred of Landrace, Yorkshire and Chinese indigenous Min Pig (LYM) were analyzed using Gibbs sampling. In Bayesian inference, flat priors and some informative priors were used to examine their influence on posterior estimates. The posterior mean estimates of heritabilities with flat priors were $0.661{\pm}0.035$ for L, $0.540{\pm}0.072$ for Y, $0.789{\pm}0.074$ for LY, and $0.577{\pm}0.058$ for LYM, and they did not differ (p>0.05) from their corresponding estimates of REML. When inverse Gamma densities for variance components were used as priors with the shape parameter of 4, the posterior estimates were still corresponding (p>0.05) to REML estimates and mean estimates using Gibbs sampling with flat priors. However, when the inverse Gamma densities with the shape parameter of 10 were utilized, some posterior estimates differed (p<0.10) from REML estimates and/or from other Gibbs mean estimates. The use of moderate degree of belief was influential to the posterior estimates, especially for Y and for LY where data sizes were small. When the data size is small, REML estimates of variance components have unknown distributions. On the other hand, Bayesian approach gives exact posterior densities of variance components. However, when the data size is small and prior knowledge is lacked, researchers should be careful with even moderate priors.

The effects of hole expansion angle and the arrangement of nozzles on a film cooling system for a turbine-blade-shaped surface were experimentally investigated. Liquid crystal with flue-temperature correlation and an image processing system were employed to evaluate surface temperature. Distributions of cooling effectiveness were then presented to figure out the change of heat transfer characteristics with different geometric conditions of cooling-holes. It was found thats the averaged cooling efficiency on the suction surface was maximum with 10 degree of the cooling hole expansion angle. It was also shown that the averaged cooling efficiency on the pressure surface and the averaged cooling efficiency for dual array case were not affected by the hole expansion angle.

For the purpose of finding out the distributions of groundwater uses, the effect of facilities on the parameter and the correlations among measurements, various statistical analysis were carried out with the data of groundwater quality measurements from January to December in 2002. 1. The rates of groundwater for drinking water were 10.5% in Yangcheon-Gu, 10.2% in Kangdong-Gu, and 9.9% in Eunpyung-Gu. The rates of other uses of groundwater were shown to be 58.1%(786 wells) for civil defense emergency, 22.1%(299 wells) for contamination-concerning, 9.8%(133 wells) for water quality monitoring, consisting of 90% of all groundwater. 2. The 52.6% of groundwater for drinking were demonstrated to be appropriate while 91.9% for tither uses-domestic, industrial, agricultural uses- were shown to be proper. 3. For drinking water, the average values of colar, turbidity, NH3-N, F, and Fe were 11.216 degree, 2.138 NTU, 2.458mg/l, 0.212mg/1 and 0.507mg/1 respectively. 4. In cases of drinking water wells for emergency, the results of statistical analysis showed that building year of the wells, depth and pumping rate didn't affect on whether it was proper for that use or not. It were shown that there were linear correlations between depth and NO$_3$-N(-0.171) and F ̄(0.332) while the correlation coefficients were 0.381 and -0.169 between the building year of well and depth and pumping rate respectively.
