The purpose of this thesis is, through analysing the characteristics of the definitions in Korean school mathematics textbooks, to explore the levels of them. Definitions use din academic mathematics are rigorous. But they should be transformed into various types, which are presented in school mathematics textbooks, with didactical purposes. In this thesis we investigated such types of transformation. With the result of this investigation we tried to identify the levels of the definitions in school mathematics textbooks. We tried to construct, with consideration about methods of definition, frame for analysing the types of the definitions in school mathematics. Methods of definition are classified as connotative method, denotative method, and synonymous method. Especially we identified that connotative method contains logical definition, genetic definition, relational definition, operational definition, and axiomatic definition. With these analyses we made a frame for investigating the characteristics of the definitions in school mathematics textbooks. With this frame we identified concrete types of transformations of methods of definition. We tried to analyse this result with van Hieles' theory about let·els of geometry learning and the mathematical language levels described by Freudenthal, and identify the levels of definitions in school mathematics. We showed the levels of definitions in the geometry area of the Korean school mathematics.

KMA is operationally monitoring El Ni$\tilde{n}$o and La Ni$\tilde{n}$a events, which have tremendous impacts on global climate. Many scientific studies have used to define onset of El Ni$\tilde{n}$o and La Ni$\tilde{n}$a events based on the moving average and persistency of SST indices, and KMA has adopted such definition. Though the definition has been widely accepted, in the operational aspect there is a critical problem to use moving average and condition for the persistence. Because the future values for the SST indices cannot be used in the operational monitoring, the onset timing in El Ni$\tilde{n}$o and La Ni$\tilde{n}$a can be significantly delayed. We suggest here an appropriate definition of El Ni$\tilde{n}$o and La Ni$\tilde{n}$a events in the operational aspect. Instead of using the moving average and the condition for the persistence, the onset is defined based on NINO3.4 SST during last 3 months. In order to compare the new definition with the current KMA definition, we applied them to recent 60-years SST data. It is clear that the new definition can declare the onset timing of El Ni$\tilde{n}$o and La Ni$\tilde{n}$a several months earlier than that of the KMA definition. It suggest that the new definition is more appropriate to the operational monitoring on El Ni$\tilde{n}$o and La Ni$\tilde{n}$a.

The purpose of this study is to suggest an effective plan for teaching the definition of prism by integrating and analyzing the theories related to the instruction of definitions. The subjects in this study to realize these objectives were as follows. First, it looks to theoretical backgrounds regarding the instruction of the definition of solid by functions of definition in mathematics education. Second, it explores the instructional way to form the definition of solid through function of definition, by analyzing the unit of solid in the 6th grade. Third, after conducting the real practice with the 5th graders who before learn solid in 6th curriculum, according to plan of instruction, it examined student's response and testify its effectiveness, and then propose a teaching scheme which is designed to be useful based on the outcomes. In terms of theoretical background, it investigated the precedent research in relation to the instruction of the definition that mathematical definition is not given perfectly but the process of making knowledge that mathematization activity is necessary. It investigated the effects of the instruction of definitions, based on the effects of teaching and interviews with the 5th graders, and analysis of student's handout. The followings were the results of this study. First, 'Making Definitions' activities through remove counterexample process was possible to analytic thinking not intuitively thinking, and it effects the extend of awareness in definition that definition is not fixed but various. Second, it need the step of organize terms that is useful on solid's definition through activate of background knowledge. Third, it is effective that explore characters of the solids after construct the solids. Fourth, interactive discussion that students correct their mistakes each other through mathematical communication and they can think developmental is useful on making definition more than individual study.

Of the macroscopic spray characteristics of non-reacting diesel fuel sprays, the spray angle reflects directly the atomization and air entrainment processes downstream the nozzle. In addition, spray angle is important because it will be closely related to the spray penetration. The existing definitions for the measurement of spray angle as well as the correlations for the prediction of spray angle are, therefore, summarized and reviewed. The existing definition of spray angle can be classified into four groups: distance based on orifice diameter, distance based on spray tip penetration, definition based on surface wave, and definition based on atomization. It is strongly required to specify the definition and measurement method when the data for spray angle is reported. The existing correlations for spray angle can be classified into two groups: theoretical and empirical correlations. The study on the evaluation of the existing correlations fer spray angle is required.

In this article we drew out five definition-methods in school geometry. They are called synonymous method, denotative method, analytic method. And we analyzed them theoretically. On our analysis we tried to identify the level of common sense and the level of science in definition of those two levels on the definition-methods of circle. While the definition-method in elementary school could be regarded as the level of common sense, that in middle school could be considered as the level of science. Finally, we made the following didactical comments. Definitions in school mathematics might have the levels as regard to their roles. Thus, Mathematics teachers, curriculum developers, and text authors all need to recognize the subtle differences in the level of definition-methods.

This study attempts to understanding of outer space elements in a rural house through an analysis nouns for function definition phase in design value engineering. To choose main check objects, this study examines requests by rural dwellers and analyze function definition in design value engineering. The rural dwellers prefers that barrier free design, outdoor working space and security of calamity. Each selected elements are classified the nouns into a main noun by analysis function definition nouns at design VE phase. The nouns are reclassified into the main nouns as a distance, a space, and a form.

Our Study aims to examine, from a critical perspective, recent approaches to the definition of services, Studies that deal with the question of how to characterize services offer three types of response. The first approach developed by classical economists proposes to use technical criteria (immateriality, non-separability between consumption and production, non-storage, heterogeneity) as foundation for a specific definition of services. The second, which is today most widely cited definition, that of Peter Hill proposes an institutional or a relation-oriented definition which emphasizes service triangle. Finally, the work of Gadrey, which investigates the impact of new technologies on service activities, offers a new general definition of services that is compatible with the existence of several demand rationales.

As high-definition video is broadly used in various system such as broadcast system and digital camcorder the proper method in order to improve the quality of high-definition video is needed. In this paper, we propose an efficient method to improve color and contrast of high-definition video. In order to apply the image enhancement method to high-definition video, scale-down video of high-definition video is used and the parameter for image enhancement method is computed from small size video. To enhance the color of high-definition video, we apply color constancy method. First, we separate the video into several scenes by cut detection method. Then, we apply color constancy to each scene with same parameter. To improve the contrast of high-definition video, we use union of original image and histogram equalized image, and weight is calculated based on sorting of histogram bins. Finally, the performance of proposed method is demonstrated in experiment section.

According to increasing necessaries of workflow systems, it will be useful to most Enterprises. However existing workflow systems are shared only inside of systems that use a same process definition. It is difficult to share a process definition with another enterprise using different platforms. In this paper, we used Web Service for sharing process definition. Web Service have advantage that can linked between different platforms. Therefore we developed workflow Process definition by using Web Service. Using Web Service, we can be share workflow process definition between enterprises using different platform.

In recent elementary school mathematics a word 'stipulation' newly appears. The word is used instead of definition. However, there seems to be some differences between definition and stipulation. So, in this paper we investigate those differences through the concept 'function of definition'. In school mathematics textbooks there are definitions which carry out special functions In mathematical contexts or situations. We can say that we understand those definitions, only if we also understand the functions of definitions in those contexts or situations. Functions of definition are classified as, stipulation-function, discrimination-function, analysis-function, demonstration-function, improvement-function. With these analyses we made a frame for investigating the characteristics of the definitions in recent elementary school mathematics textbooks. As a result of analysing functions of definition we found that generally speaking, stipulation-function is excessively emphasized and the other functions of definition are not explained adequately in school mathematics textbooks. So it is required that the textbook authors should be careful not to miss an opportunity for the functional understanding and the mathematics teachers should be aware of the functions of definitions. Finally, we comment that textbook author, teacher, and researcher should be careful in using the word 'stipulation' instead of definition, because, although there are various functions of definitions, students might ream only stipulation-function.
