  • The plastic waste problem is deepening all over the world. Plastic wastes have serious impacts on our lives as well as environ- mental pollution. The production and use of plastics increases every year, but once they are produced, they usually roam the earth for hundreds or thousands of years to pollute the environment. Although there is growing interest in plastic issues around the world and environmental regulations are being tightened, but no clear solution has yet been found. This study suggests Environmental degradation index (EDI). EDI can help raise consumers' attention to plastic wastes. In addition, EDI will contribute to reduce them in the future. As far as we know, this is the first study. We developed EDI for the confectionery packaging. This study defines four factors that may affect the environment of confectionery packaging: greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, methane emissions, and packaging space ratio. Then we quantify the value of each element and compute EDI as the sum of the four component values. In order to evaluate the feasibility of EDI proposed in this study, confectionery-packaging materials distributed in Korea were collected and analyzed. First, the types of confectionery are classified into pies, biscuits, and snacks and basic data was collected. Then the values of the four components were calculated using existing research data on the environment. We can use the proposed EDI to determine how much a product packing affects the environment.

  • The current research investigates an optimal design for the service system, which refers to the entire process of implementing, providing, and utilizing wisdom assets. We analyzed the intrinsic commonality of wisdom assets and services, and carried out research based on optimality in fidelity to service essence. The essential characteristics of service are horizontality, interactivity, harmonization, and relationship. It is suggested that the operating process can be implemented in the best condition when the wisdom asset service system is designed based on the four essential characteristics of services. It has been demonstrated that the entire process of production, delivery, marketing and quality control of wisdom contents can be designed on the basis of the essence of wisdom and service. After designing a basic service model, detailed service models are presented. The purpose of this study was to solve the problems of the material civilization society which is suffering mentally and to design the social service model which is high in productivity but mentally healthy. By supplementing and deepening the results of this study, it will be possible to develop and implement desirable social service model in which all societies live a happy life.

  • Recently, the deepening of the environment and accompanying concerns produce various environmental regulations. For example, EPR(Extended Producer Responsibility) is emphasized in many countries such as USA and Europe. According to this, the construction of a reverse supply chain is under compulsion. A diversity of parts can be controlled by a government or enterprises in the construction and management of a reverse supply chain and the effect to the environment is changed according to the policy. Therefore, it is essential to understand the effects of regulations or policies of a government and enterprises on a supply chain. The object of this research is to develop a means to assess the management efficiency and the environmental effect over a whole supply chain and show the effects of various reverse supply chain construction policies on a supply chain. This model can be utilized to establish appropriate policies by understanding the change in the management efficiency and the environmental effect according to the reverse supply chain construction and management method.

  • The reduction of fishing grounds due to the establishment of EEZ system among China, Japan and Korea together with the depletion of fish resources by pollution of waters and successive reclamation projects along the east and the south coastal lines has made many problems in coastal communities including the decrease of population, the deepening aging phenomenon in the fishery society and the fall of relative income level compared with those of rural and urban residents. Especially, the income level of a fishing household is 90%. of a rural resident and 70% of a urban resident. The income of a fishing household consists of 55% of fishing income, 20% of a agricultural source, 20% of income from non-fishing areas, and 10% of transferred income. Compared with that of a Japanese fishing household which has more diverse income sources such as 62% of income coming from non-fishing areas through being hired in manufacturing firms, etc., that of Korean ones is highly dependent upon fishery and agriculture, so that the diversification of income sources is urgently needed, especially in non-fishing areas. This paper shows that as a model to upgrade fisherman's income level, firstly, it is necessary to enhance the value-added of fishing products through processing and new innovation of distribution process and, secondly, to promote tourism in fishing villages. To ascertain this model, a questionnaire survey to fishermen was carried out and showed that they expressed a strong support for the increase of income by the value-added process through processing and innovative distribution system and the active introduction of tourism in fishing villages. A case study on Gosan cooperative in Jeju was also introduced to identify the rationale of the suggested model and this study proved the validity of the model again. Conclusively speaking, to level up the fisherman's income requires the value- added activities through the introduction of product processing and new distribution system together with the introduction of marine tourism in fishing villages.

  • Today, as the number of applicants for admission decreases, competition among universities is deepening in Korea. Especially, the existence of local universities has led to intense competition to increase the enrollment rate of new students and reduce dropout rate. To survive in this competition, local universities are making various efforts; however, the primary problem is improving their educational service quality. In this study, we have developed a device to measure educational service quality which can be applied to the field of higher education, and factors that determine educational service quality are dragged through this device. In addition, this research identifies which statistically significant factors play a part in overall satisfaction and word of mouth effect, and interprets 29 quality attributes using importance-satisfaction transformed index.

  • This study is to investigate spatial patterns of urban labor market growth driven by marketization process and its implication for understanding regional uneven development in post-reform China. Using a shift share analysis, it shows that the geography of employment growth in China's industrial labor market has closely interacted with the space economy of industrial output, which in turn indicates a deepening of economic reform. By decomposing net employment growth into output and productivity effects, it is shown that the non-state sector holds rapid growth of both output and productivity and contributes to net employment growth through positive net shifts. On the contrary, this study also presents that the state sector with relative decrease in output and productivity holds employment decline effects during the reform period. Since there is a significant spatial dimension for the trend above, it is contended that labor market dynamics together with space economy of industrial production play an important role in determining regional patterns of economic development. In addition, through situating this investigation in the context of structural and institutional changes in the reform period, our understanding of regional patterns of labor market growth will be much furthered.

  • The paper shows that Uganda lacks an adequate institutional framework to achieve agriculture modernization. Based on constellation model, the paper proposes an effective way to promote agricultural development through policy and institutional partnerships at various levels of governance and action by various stakeholders in the sector. From this theoretical perspective, the paper raises salient research questions: Why is Abim District an important focus for Agricultural development? What is the effect of institutional arrangements and partnerships in agriculture development in Abim District? What forms of institutional partnerships and collaboration framework can effectively address the challenge in the District and Northern Uganda as a whole? These concerns are important obstacles to improved agricultural performance in Uganda as dysfunctional institutional arrangements and norms are majorconstraints to agricultural development. The findings demonstrate that institutional gaps, bureaucracy, institutional proliferation and overlapping roles have derailed agriculture modernization. Hence, the development strategy proposes creating and rejuvenating all essential players operating in the region, developing or deepening their inter-linkages through judicious and sustainable partnerships with all the principal players in Abim District.
