In this paper, we propose a malware family classification scheme using malware visualization and transfer learning. The malware can be easily reused or modified. However, traditional malware detection techniques are vulnerable to detecting variants of malware. Malware belonging to the same class are converted into images that are similar to each other. Therefore, the proposed method can classify malware with a deep learning model that has been verified in the field of image classification. As a result of an experiment using the VGG-16 model on the Malimg dataset, the classification accuracy was over 98%.

Regularly inspecting vehicle tires' condition is imperative for driving safety and comfort. Poorly maintained tires can pose fatal risks, leading to accidents. Unfortunately, manual tire visual inspections are often considered no less laborious than employing an automatic tire inspection system. Nevertheless, an automated tire inspection method can significantly enhance driver compliance and awareness, encouraging routine checks. Therefore, there is an urgency for automated tire inspection solutions. Here, we focus on developing a deep learning (DL) model to predict cracked tires. The main idea of this study is to demonstrate the comparative analysis of DenseNet121, VGG-19 and EfficientNet Convolution Neural Network-based (CNN) Transfer Learning (TL) and suggest which model is more recommended for cracked tire classification tasks. To measure the model's effectiveness, we experimented using a publicly accessible dataset of 1028 images categorized into two classes. Our experimental results obtain good performance in terms of accuracy, with 0.9515. This shows that the model is reliable even though it works on a dataset of tire images which are characterized by homogeneous color intensity.

Name separation (splitting full names into surnames and given names) is not a tedious task in a multiethnic country because the procedure for splitting surnames and given names is ethnicity-specific. Malaysia has multiple main ethnic groups; therefore, separating Malaysian full names into surnames and given names proves a challenge. In this study, we develop a two-phase framework for Malaysian name separation using deep learning. In the initial phase, we predict the ethnicity of full names. We propose a recurrent neural network with long short-term memory network-based model with character embeddings for prediction. Based on the predicted ethnicity, we use a rule-based algorithm for splitting full names into surnames and given names in the second phase. We evaluate the performance of the proposed model against various machine learning models and demonstrate that it outperforms them by an average of 9%. Moreover, transfer learning and fine-tuning of the proposed model with an additional dataset results in an improvement of up to 7% on average.
This paper presents an enhancement method of document restoration capability which is robust for security, loss, and contamination, It is based on two methods, that is, encryption and DnCNN(DeNoise Convolution Neural Network). In order to implement this encryption method, a mathematical model is applied as a spatial frequency transfer function used in optics of 2D image information. Then a method is proposed with optical interference patterns as encryption using spatial frequency transfer functions and using mathematical variables of spatial frequency transfer functions as ciphers. In addition, by applying the DnCNN method which is bsed on deep learning technique, the restoration capability is enhanced by removing noise. With an experimental evaluation, with 65% information loss, by applying Pre-Training DnCNN Deep Learning, the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) shows 11% or more superior in compared to that of the spatial frequency transfer function only. In addition, it is confirmed that the characteristic of CC(Correlation Coefficient) is enhanced by 16% or more.
Deep learning-based applications have great potential to enhance the quality of medical services. The power of deep learning depends on open databases and innovation. Radiologists can act as important mediators between deep learning and medicine by simultaneously playing pioneering and gatekeeping roles. The application of deep learning technology in medicine is sometimes restricted by ethical or legal issues, including patient privacy and confidentiality, data ownership, and limitations in patient agreement. In this paper, we present an open platform, MI2RLNet, for sharing source code and various pre-trained weights for models to use in downstream tasks, including education, application, and transfer learning, to encourage deep learning research in radiology. In addition, we describe how to use this open platform in the GitHub environment. Our source code and models may contribute to further deep learning research in radiology, which may facilitate applications in medicine and healthcare, especially in medical imaging, in the near future. All code is available at https://github.com/mi2rl/MI2RLNet.
River and stream are the important water supply source in our lives. Eutrophication causes excessive green algae growth including microcystis, which makes harmful to ecosystem and human health. Therefore, the water purification process to remove green algae is essential. In Korea, green algae alarm system exists depending on the concentration of green algae cells in river or stream. To maintain the growth amount under control, green algae monitoring system is being used. However, the unmanned, small and automatic monitoring system would be preferable. In this study, we developed the 3D printed device to measure the concentration of green algae cell using microfluidic droplet generator and deep learning. Deep learning network was trained by using transfer learning through pre-trained deep learning network. This newly developed microfluidic cell counter has sufficient accuracy to be possibly applicable to green algae alarm system.

In this work, we empirically evaluated the efficiency of the recent EfficientNetB0 model to identify and diagnose malaria parasite infections in blood smears. The dataset used was collected and classified by relevant experts from the Lister Hill National Centre for Biomedical Communications (LHNCBC). We prepared our samples with minimal image transformations as opposed to others, as we focused more on the feature extraction capability of the EfficientNetB0 baseline model. We applied transfer learning to increase the initial feature sets and reduced the training time to train our model. We then fine-tuned it to work with our proposed layers and re-trained the entire model to learn from our prepared dataset. The highest overall accuracy attained from our evaluated results was 94.70% from fifty epochs and followed by 94.68% within just ten. Additional visualization and analysis using the Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping (Grad-CAM) algorithm visualized how effectively our fine-tuned EfficientNetB0 detected infections better than other recent state-of-the-art DCNN models. This study, therefore, concludes that when fine-tuned, the recent EfficientNetB0 will generate highly accurate deep learning solutions for the identification of malaria parasites in blood smears without the need for stringent pre-processing, optimization, or data augmentation of images.

Agriculture is one of the essential needs of human life on planet Earth. It is the source of food and earnings for many individuals around the world. The economy of many countries is associated with the agriculture sector. Lots of diseases exist that attack various fruits and crops. Apple Tree Leaves also suffer different types of pathological conditions that affect their production. These pathological conditions include apple scab, cedar apple rust, or multiple diseases, etc. In this paper, an automatic detection framework based on deep learning is investigated for apple leaves disease classification. Different pre-trained models, VGG16, ResNetV2, InceptionV3, and MobileNetV2, are considered for transfer learning. A combination of parameters like learning rate, batch size, and optimizer is analyzed, and the best combination of ResNetV2 with Adam optimizer provided the best classification accuracy of 94%.
Over the past decade, researchers were able to solve complex medical problems as well as acquire deeper understanding of entire issue due to the availability of machine learning techniques, particularly predictive algorithms and automatic recognition of patterns in medical imaging. In this study, a technique called transfer learning has been utilized to classify Magnetic Resonance (MR) images by a pre-trained Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). Rather than training an entire model from scratch, transfer learning approach uses the CNN model by fine-tuning them, to classify MR images into Alzheimer's disease (AD), mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and normal control (NC). The performance of this method has been evaluated over Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging (ADNI) dataset by changing the learning rate of the model. Moreover, in this study, in order to demonstrate the transfer learning approach we utilize different pre-trained deep learning models such as GoogLeNet, VGG-16, AlexNet and ResNet-18, and compare their efficiency to classify AD. The overall classification accuracy resulted by GoogLeNet for training and testing was 99.84% and 98.25% respectively, which was exceptionally more than other models training and testing accuracies.

Asphalt, widely used for road pavement, has different required physical properties depending on the environment to which the road is exposed. Therefore, it is essential to maximize the life of asphalt roads by evaluating the physical properties of asphalt according to additives and selecting an appropriate formulation considering road traffic and climatic environment. Dynamic shear rheometer(DSR) test is mainly used to measure resistance to rutting among various physical properties of asphalt. However, the DSR test has limitations in that the results are different depending on the experimental setting and can only be measured within a specific temperature range. Therefore, in this study, to overcome the limitations of the DSR test, the rheological characteristics were predicted by learning the images collected from atomic force microscopy. Images and rheology properties were trained through EfficientNet, one of the deep learning architectures, and transfer learning was used to overcome the limitation of the deep learning model, which require many data. The trained model predicted the rheological properties of the asphalt binder with high accuracy even though different types of additives were used. In particular, it was possible to train faster than when transfer learning was not used.
