  • The convergence rate of the expectation of the logarithm of the first return time R(sub)n with block length n has been investigated for Bernoulli processes. This idea is applied to check the randomness of the digits of the decimal expansion of $\pi$, e and √2.

  • We research the origin of noun-following noun, Hal-Pun-Li which describes rate and clear up the difference between Hal-Pun-Li and numeric nouns which express decimal fractions. Next, we point out the mistakes of encyclopedia of mathematics, the Korean dictionary and the textbook of mathematics in the primary school, related to the difference. And then we detect the problems of the contents in the textbook which cause them. Finally we think of the improvements of the textbook.

  • This study presents revision scheme of Korean Decimal Classification appropriate for classification of children-related materials, mainly centered on social science(300) and pure science(400) occupying the majority of children-related materials in school Libraries. Towards this goal, 1 have studied the development and use of classification system for children-related materials available in domestic and overseas school libraries or children's libraries, and researched elementary school 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students' degree of understanding on classification item terms and children-related materials terms used for KDC's social science and Pure science. Based on the results of analysis, f have presented revision scheme of Korean Decimal Classification item terms and class numbers for children-related materials.

  • The representation of irrational numbers has a key role in the learning of irrational numbers. However, transparent and finite representation of irrational numbers does not exist in school mathematics context. Therefore, many students have difficulties in understanding irrational numbers as an 'Object'. For this reason, this research explored how mathematics textbooks affected to students' understanding of irrational numbers in the view of process and object. Specifically we analyzed eight textbooks based on current curriculum and used framework based on previous research. In order to supplement the result derived from textbook analysis, we conducted questionnaires on 42 middle school students. The questions in the questionnaires were related to the representation and calculation of irrational numbers. As a result of this study, we found that mathematics textbooks develop contents in order of process-object, and using 'non repeating decimal', 'numbers cannot be represented as a quotient', 'numbers with the radical sign', 'number line' representation for irrational numbers. Students usually used a representation of non-repeating decimal, although, they used a representation of numbers with the radical sign when they operate irrational numbers. Consequently, we found that mathematics textbooks affect students to understand irrational numbers as a non-repeating irrational numbers, but mathematics textbooks have a limitation to conduce understanding of irrational numbers as an object.

  • The core version of UDC(Universal Decimal Classification) is available in an electronic form called MRF(Master Reference File) which supports the maintenance of the quality of the scheme as a working tool for the UDCC(UDC Consortium) by annual reviewing its content and initiating revisions and extensions. In this paper, we discuss outcomes of our in-depth analysis of the geography, biography and history disciplines in UDC focused on the its evolutions and characteristics, including the common auxiliaries of place, the common auxiliaries of time and the common auxiliaries of race, ethnic grouping and nationality. Based on the in-depth analysis, we suggested some ideas which can be applied into the history class of KDC(Korean Decimal Classification). In particular, its principle of combination methods in the history of individual regions, the way of its assignment of physical geography and human geography in the same division, the possibilities of the extension of the table of geographical division and the adaptation of the table of chronological division in KDC.

  • This study reports the results of an exploratory investigation into building number technique applied by a sample of novice students using Electronic Dewey(ED). For control purposes, a second sample used the same classification schedule but in print format. In this experiment, the DDC 20 in print had a higher success rate than ED. While the searches in ED took shorter time than DDC in print, students using DDC 20 in print were able to build more correct numbers than ED. Novice users did not take full advantage of system features of ED. Therefore, it is important to note the overall difficulty with which users could build numbers from the ED after little training. However, it is interesting to note that the students in the CD-ROM group were more interested in building numbers than their colleagues in the Print group. The correlation between the grade of English course and the score in experiment was negative in Print group. And the correlation between GPA and the score in experiment was a little positive. The correlation between the time and the score in experiment was quitenegative.

  • Owing to the modification of testing methods of disinfectants or antiseptics, variations of bacteria according to characteristics of regions and resistance changes of bacteria, it is necessary that the bactericidal activities of disinfectants or antiscptics should be reevaluated nowadays. This study was carried out to reevaluate in the vitro bactericidal activity of Chlorhexidine gluconate solution. The results of experiment were summarized as follows. 1. For Chlorhexidine gluconate solution, minimal inhibitory concentrations of total bacteria taken from sewage water and Legionella bozemanii were $2.0\times 10^{-3}$%, $1.0\times 10^{-2}$%, respectively and were comparatively high. Minimal inhibitory concentration of Shigella flexneri was $1.6\times 10^{-4}$%, and was comparatively low. 2. For total bacteria taken from sewage water, it was killed within 15 minute in 0.1% Chlorhexidine gluconate solution when number of cells was $1.6\times 10^7$/ml. 3. For 0.0125% Chlorhexidine gluconate solution, decimal reduction times of Ps. aeruginosa, S. typhi, E. Coli were 45 sec, 25 sec, 18 sec repectively. For 1%, 0.125% Chlorhexidine gluconate solution, decimal reduction times of Legionella bozemanii were 10 sec, 45 sec respectively. 4. There was significant difference in the bactericidal activity of Chlorhexidine gluconate solution according to temperattire. Phenol coefficient of Chlorhexidine gluconate solution as using Staph. aureus was 100 and comparatively higher than that of other disinfectants. In comparison with other disinfectants, Legionella bozemanii was killed within 5 minutes in 0.02% KMnO$_4$ and 0.125% Chlorhexidine giuconate solution but was not killed within 3 minutes in 1% 0-cresol, 1% Phenol.

  • On this study, the historical flow of the notation was briefly examined and the direction of mathematical investigation activity of the content of notation by analogy was explored and teaching learning materials were developed. Diverse mathematical facts were investigated on the basis of decimal system and binary system which are learned in middle school. First, the way of progressing analytic activity with algebraic material was examined. Second, on the basis of the notation which are learned in the first grade of middle school, the definition of the scale of a -notation, -a -notation, $\frac{1}{a}$notation, $\sqrt{a}$-notation was extended by analogy. The result of this study will be expected to establish the curriculum of mathematics and provide teaching and learning with the meaningful current events.
