  • The objective of this study is to analyze the decay characteristics of the hat interpolation wavelet coefficients of some smooth functions defined in a two-dimensional space. The motivation of this research is to establish some fundamental mathematical foundations needed in justifying the adaptive multiresolution analysis of the hat-interpolation wavelet-Galerkin method. Though the hat-interpolation wavelet-Galerkin method has been successful in some classes of problems, no complete error analysis has been given yet. As an effort towards this direction, we give estimates on the decaying ratios of the wavelet coefficients at children interpolation points to the wavelet coefficient at the parent interpolation point. We also give an estimate for the difference between non-adaptively and adaptively interpolated representations.

  • Calculation was carried out for phase velocity and deformation wave decay in a layer of viscoelastic material fixed tightly on the solid substrate. Analysis has been performed regarding the inner structure of the wave, i.e., the proportions between the vertical and horizontal displacements and their profiles. The wave characteristics depend strongly on media compressibility factor. The effect of viscous losses on parameters of the main oscillation mode was studied in detail. Results were compared with the model of coating with local deformation. A new experimental approach was made in order to measure such wave properties of a compliant coating as the dependency of deformation wave velocity on frequency and decay factor was made. The method for estimation of coating parameters enabling the drag reduction in turbulent flow was then refined.

  • The gaseous $^{222}Rn$ concentration at the level of clouds was estimated by using the wet scavenging model of its decay products with the observed data of environmental radiation at the ground. And the origin of the $^{222}Rn$ was also discussed. The estimation was done for a precipitation event on Dec. 26-27, 2003, when a large increase of the radiation was observed in Tokai-mura in Ibaraki, Japan. From a backward trajectory analysis, the origin of $^{222}Rn$ atoms for that event was traced back to the northeastern part of China, and it was expected that the large amount of $^{222}Rn$ emitted in the northeastern part of China was transported to Tokai-mura by the Eurasian continental air mass.

  • In this paper, we have investigated the degradation of shed materials of outdoor insulators by UV-radiation by using corona-charging and XPS analysis. The accumulated charges on polymeric surface having intrinsic hydrophobic property have a negative impact on retaining its hydrophobicity. Therefore, shorter decay times of surface charges are preferred. The surface voltage decay on UV-treated silicone rubber and EPDM show a different decay trend with UV treated time. From the XPS analysis, the oxidized groups of silica-like structure in silicone rubber increase with UV treatment time. For EPDM, the oxidized carbon groups of C=O, O=C-O increase as elapse of UV radiation time. These oxidized surface for each material have different electrostatic characteristics, so deposited charges may be expected to have different impacts on their surface hydrophobicity. The degradation mechanism based on our results is discussed.

  • This work take deeper analysis of Adaptive Moment Estimation (Adam) and Adam with Weight Decay (AdamW) implementation in real world text classification problem (DGA Malware Detection). AdamW is introduced by decoupling weight decay from L2 regularization and implemented as improved optimizer. This work introduces a novel implementation of AdamW variant as AdamW+ by further simplifying weight decay implementation in AdamW. DGA malware detection LSTM models results for Adam, AdamW and AdamW+ are evaluated on various DGA families/ groups as multiclass text classification. Proposed AdamW+ optimizer results has shown improvement in all standard performance metrics over Adam and AdamW. Analysis of outcome has shown that novel optimizer has outperformed both Adam and AdamW text classification based problems.

  • In this study, time-dependent concentration variations of VOCs from fixed furniture and Ondol floor widely used as finishing material of the floor were measured, and prediction equations were developed based on the measured results. VOCs were measured and analyzed based on EPA TO-17 and NIOSH 1500, 1501 method respectively, and GC/FID were used for the analysis of VOCs concentration. Measurements were carried out for 10 days after the installation of furniture and for 40 days after the installation of the floor in the residence constructed more than 10 years ago. In both case of floor and furniture installation, time-dependent concentration decay of VOCs can be properly converted into logarithmic scale. Especially in case of furniture, toluene showed the highest concentration and took longest time to decay. As a result of the prediction of VOCs concentration decay under different air change rate using estimated equations, concentration decay rate of indoor VOCs increased rapidly as the air change rate also increased.

  • Wood decay fungi were collected in 47 different locations in eight provinces of South Korea from 2011 to 2013. One thousand and five hundreds three fruiting bodies of wood-decay fungi were collected, identified, and classified into 2 phyla, 7 classes, 19 orders, 56 families, 159 genera and 365 species. The most dominant genus and species found were Trametes and T. versicolor. The highest species diversity was found in broad-leaved forest (273 species), and was also found at elevations of 500-1,000 m (227 species). A total of 333 species were collected from broad-leaved trees, 87 species from coniferous trees, and 55 species were collected from both forest types. Gymnopilus liquiritiae was the most dominant species in coniferous trees, while T. versicolor, which was mostly collected from tree trunks below 500 m in elevation, was dominant in broad-leaved trees. Results from the quantitative cluster analysis of wood decay fungi showed that the highest species diversity index was 1.80 in the mixed forests, while the highest similarity among forest types was shown between the broad-leaved and mixed forests.

  • Much attention has been given to predict the near-field mass transfer of a single radioactive species from a waste solid into surrounding porous medium. But only limited considerations have been given to predict the coupled mass transfer of species with a radioactive decay chain. In this study we present an analysis assuming that the members of a decay chain dissolve congruently with a solubility-limited matrix. We give general, non-recursive analytic solutions for the transport of a radioactive decay chain in a finite porous medium when nuclides are released congruently with the matrix. As an illustration we consider the decay chain $^{234}$ Ulongrightarrow$^{230}$ Thlongrightarrow$^{226}$ Ra from spent fuel. These solutions may be useful and potentially important in performance assessment of radioactive waste repositories.

  • We fabricated a closed coils by using resistive-joint method and the joint resistance of the coils were estimated by field decay technique in liquid nitrogen. We used the Runge-kutta method for the numerical analysis to calculate the decay properties. The closed coil was wound by $(Bi,Pb)_2Sr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_x$/Ag tape. Both ends the tape were overlapped and soldered to each other. The current was induced in a closed coils by external magnetic flux density. Its decay characteristic was observed by means of measuring the magnetic flux density generated by induced current at the center of the closed coil with hall sensor. The joint resistance was calculated as the ratio of the inductance of the loop to the time constants. The joint resistances were evaluated as a function of critical current of loop, contact length, sweep time, and external magnetic flux density in a contact length of 7 cm. It was observed that joint resistance was dependent on contact length of a closed coil, but independent of critical current, sweep time, and external magnetic flux density. The joint resistance was measured to be higher for a standard four-probe method, compared with that for the field decay technique. This implies that noise of measurement in a standard four-probe method is larger than that of field decay technique. It was estimated that joint resistance was $8.0{\times}10^{-9}{\Omega}$ to $11.4{\times}10^{-9}{\Omega}$ for coils of contact length for 7 cm. It was found that 40Pb/60Sn solder are unsuitable for persistent mode.

  • Analysis problems of tunnels whose geometrical dimensions are very small compared with surrounding media can be treated as infinite region problems. In such cases, even if finite element models can be applied, excessive number of elements is required to obtain satisfactory accuracy. However, inaccurate results may be produced due to assumed artificial boundary conditions. To solve these problems, a hybrid model, which models the region of interest with finite elements and the surrounding infinite media with infinite elements, is introduced for the analysis of infinite region. Three-dimensional isoparametric infinite elements with various decay characteristics are formulated in this paper and the corresponding parameters are presented by means of parametric studies. Three-dimensional tunnel analysis performed on a representative example verifies the applicability of hybrid model using infinite elements.
