  • This paper presents the mean streamline analysis using the empirical loss correlations for performance prediction of cross-flow fans. Comparison of overall performance predictions with test data of a cross-flow fan system with a simplified vortex wall scroll casing and with the published experimental characteristics for a cross-flow fan has been carried out to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed method. Predicted performance curves by the present mean streamline analysis agree well with experimental data for two different cross-flow fans over the normal operating conditions. The prediction method presented herein can be used efficiently as a tool for the preliminary design and performance analysis of general-purpose cross-flow fans.

  • This study was conducted for obtaining the optimized data to build the mixer or micro fluid device as measuring the three dimensions flow field in micro mixer. To acquire the rapid diffusion on the region of low Reynolds (Re < 100), the staggered herringbone mixer using chaotic advection was selected in this case. At first, by conducting the numerical analytical virtual experiment using CFD-ACE+, three dimensions flow field in the micro mixer was estimated As this flow field was proven using defocusing particle tracing method, the behavior of micro flow with three dimensional aspects could be analyzed. Numerical analysis and flow pattern in the micro mixer by experimental verification made to be able to analyze the chaotic advection. These can be important sources for building more optimized form. Verifying the information of three dimensional flow structure, these information can be used as the data for developing and improving the $\mu$ -TAS.

  • Flow oscillations in boiling channels induces a drastic reduction of the (critical heat flux) CHF or premature burnout. However, most of CHF works and correlations have been focused on stable flow conditions without considering flow oscillation. Therefore to improve the understanding on flow oscillation CHF, in this paper a new CHF correction factor to predict the CHF values under flow oscillation conditions has been developed from 126 experimental data. Also to investigate the dominant factor on flow oscillation CHF parametric trends are analyzed by using the developed correction factor. The overall mean accuracy ratio of the developed correction factor is 1.033 with a standard deviation of 0.195. The RMS errors 0.198. Its assessment shows that the predictions agree well with the experimental data within 25% error bounds.

  • The Purpose of this study is to give the hydrologically basic data for the development of water resources in Korea and a quantity of daily average precipitation and its frequency in a year are investigated to study the presumption which is affected to river flow. Characteristics of precipitation is poor as source of water resources compared with its efficiency. So, because of such characteristics of precipitation, river flow also is in harmony and distribution of river flow comes to the result of irregularity, that is, range of river coefficiet between the quantity of maximum river flow and others river flow is big, and it is insufficient as source of water resources. Yearly river flow being expressed by daily unit indicates the ratio(%) of distribution to total yearly river flow, and the model of hydrograph is drawn up. The gives the basis to make yearly water balance sheet. This study is not completed, yet but in forth-coming days, the water will try continuously to give more correct basis for the development of water resources according to a great deal of data.

  • The objective of this study is to develop a reliable flow forecasting model based on neural network algorithm in order to provide flow rate at stream sections without flow measurement in Nakdong river. Stream flow rate measured at 8-days interval by Nakdong river environment research center, daily upper dam discharge and precipitation data connecting upstream stage gauge were used in this development. Back propagation neural network and multi-layer with hidden layer that exists between input and output layer are used in model learning and constructing, respectively. Model calibration and verification is conducted based on observed data from 3 station in Nakdong river.

  • The monitoring technique based on electrical conductivity (EC) can provide researchers with some advantages in maintenance management and is cost-effective as compared with existing CSOs monitoring. In this study, the flow rate estimation using EC data was executed in two sites where storm overflow chamber had installed. In the result of A-site, R2 of second order multinomial between dilution ratio of EC and observed flow rate was showed the range of 0.68 ~ 0.77. And $R^{2}$ of B-site was 0.62 ~ 0.81. On the other hand, cumulative frequency of A-site was 43.4 ~ 52.2% in the relative error level of under 20%. And B-site was 10.1 ~ 46.5%. The flow rate estimation formula was improved through consideration of some parameters including antecedent dry days and rainfall duration. And difference between estimated flow rate and observed flow rate in total rainfall event was very small.

  • Holographic interferometric tomography can provide reconstruction of instantaneous three-dimensional gross flow fields. The technique however confronts ill-posed reconstruction problems in practical applications. Experimental data are usually limited in projection and angular scanning when a field is captured instantaneously or under the obstruction of test models and test section enclosures. An algorithm, based on a series expansion method, has been developed to improve the reconstruction under the ill-posed conditions. A three-dimensional natural convection flow around two interacting isothermal cubes is experimentally investigated. The flow can provide a challenging reconstruction problem and lend itself to accurate numerical solution for comparison. The refractive index fields at two horizontal sections of the thermal plume with and without an opaque object are reconstructed at a limited view angle of 80$\circ$. The experimental reconstructions are then compared with those from numerical calculation and thermocouple thermometry. It confirms that the technique is applicable to reconstruction of reasonably complex, three-dimensional flow fields.

  • Numerical analysis of three-dimensional viscous flow-fields in the turbine rotor passages is carried out to investigate flow physics including the interaction between secondary vortices, tip leakage vortex, and the rotor wake. The blade tip geometry is accurately modeled adopting the embedded H grid topology. An explicit four-stage Runge-Kutta scheme is used for the time integration of both the mean flow and turbulence equations. The computational results for the entire turbine rotor flows, particularly the tip clearance flow and the secondary flows, are interpreted and compared with the experimental data from the Penn State turbine stage. Good agreement between the experimental data and the numerical prediction was achieved in the sense of the major features of the flow fields.

  • A numerical analysis on engine coolant is made by the use of FVM based general purpose 3 dimensional Navier-Stokes solver, TURB-3D. Numerical solutions are verified by comparison with the experimental data of Lotus model. The results show a good qualitative as well as quantitative comparison. Coolant flow rate control is attempted through adjusting the cross section area of passage base on the results of an original coolant passage. It is concluded from the results that the flow rate control is possible as attempted, and thus can be used in the real engine design.

  • This paper describes the steady flow characteristics due to PDA and tumble control valve in combustion chamber. We also investigated the flow inclination angle defined as the inverse tangent of non-dimensional rig tumble(NRT) devided by non-dimensional rig swirl(NRS) to find dominant flow direction. So we adapted two different types of PDA valve(port deactivation valve) to strengthen a swirl flow. The in-cylinder swirl flow different tendency between with/without PDA valve. It might be thought to be affected by swirl flow. We could find that tumble ratio and swirl ratio is different by PDA valve. The comparison are taked account of the swirl, the tumble ratio comparison in same mass flow rate. As a result, PDA valve is better than tumble control valve both in steady flow condition and swirl, tumble ratio. The data from present study are available for design of engine as the basic data.
