  • This paper addresses an analysis for a railway data transmission protocol-Ethernet based data transmission between the CTC(Centralized Traffic Control System) and the SCADA(Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system. Fame error rates of the data transmissions are calculated and compared for the two cases that the CTC/SCADA has an extra data transmission error control(CRCI6) besides the inherent error control of the Ethernet(CRC32), and that the CTC/SCADA has no extra data transmission error control. With simulation results it has been verified that the extra data transmission error control(CRC16) contributes to lowering the frame error rate.

  • Smoothing is a transmission plan where variable rate video data is converted to a constant bit rate stream. Among them are CBA, MCBA, MVBA, e-PCRTT and others. e-PCRTT algorithm, which was improved from PCRTT, restricts the number of rate changes with fixed-size run. This causes unnecessary rate changes when run size is small and buffer size is large. In this paper, to overcome a shortcoming of e-PCRTT algorithm, a smoothing algorithm is proposed, which is improved from e-PCRTT, where a transmission rate transmits more intervalsl as possible. Experiments demonstrated that the proposed algorithm outperformed e-PCRTT algorithm. In order to show the performance, various evaluation factors were used such as the number of transmission rate changes, peak rate, transmission rate variability and so on.

  • As the real-time multimedia applications through Internet increase, the bandwidth available to TCP connections is oppressed by the UDP traffic, result in the performance of overall system is extremely deteriorated. Therefore, developing a new transmission protocol is necessary. The TCP-friendly algorithm is an example meeting this necessity. The TCP-friendly (TFRC) is an UDP-based protocol that controls the transmission rate based on the available round transmission time (RTT) and the packet loss rate (PLR). In the data transmission processing, transmission rate is determined based on the conditions of the previous transmission period. If the one-step ahead predicted values of the control factors are available, the performance will be improved significantly. This paper proposes a prediction model of transmission rate control factors that will be used for the transmission rate control, which improves the performance of the networks. The model developed through this research is predicting one-step ahead variables of RTT and PLR. A multiplayer perceptron neural network is used as the prediction model and Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm is used for the training. The values of RTT and PLR were collected using TFRC protocol in the real system. The obtained prediction model is validated using new data set and the results show that the obtained model predicts the factors accurately.

  • The burst is to require abruptly high transmission rate in case of transmitting pre-stored variable bit rate video data, and it causes to be inefficient use of network resource, resource reservation. To avoid these problems, smoothing is transmission plan where variable rate video data is converted to a constant bit rate stream. These smoothing algorithms include CBA, MCBA, MVBA and others. To evaluate amount of burst reduction in the existing CBA, MCBA, MVBA algorithm, this paper compares the burst-related-factors of transmission plan in smoothing algorithms with original video sources which were stored Variable Bit Rate. There are maximum frame bytes, maximum GOP bytes, transmission rate variability per frame, transmission rate variability per GOP in burst-related evaluation factors. Experimental result shows burst-related factors of smoothing algorithms which were used for experiment lower than that of pre-stored video data, except special case.

  • In order to transmit video data stored in servers with limited bandwidth in IoT environments to many clients, a transmission plan must be established by considering factors such as the number of transmission rate changes, peak transmission rate, and transmission rate changes. This transmission plan is called smoothing, and includes CBA that minimizes the number of transmission rate increases, MCBA that minimizes the number of transmission rate changes, and MVBA to minimize the transmission rate changes. In this work, to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm[16], we compare the proposed algorithm with the existing smoothing algorithms with the peak rate, the number of transmission rate changes, the rate increase, the peak rate utilization, and the average transmission rate with various video data and buffer sizes. The evaluation results show that the proposed algorithm helps to efficiently use the server's finite network resources by establishing a transport plan with the lowest average transfer rate.

  • A CF-Poll frame which contains the channel reservation time can be piggybacked in QoS-Data frame to increase the channel efficiency in HCCA. However, if any QSTA in the network uses the low physical transmission rate, the QoS-Data frame which includes the CF-Poll frame must be transmitted by the minimum transmission rate. Therefore, it can cause the decrease of the channel efficiency and the increase of the frame transmission delay for other traffic streams when any QSTA has the low physical transmission rate. In this paper, we define this phenomenon as the piggyback problem at the low physical transmission rate and evaluate the effect of this problem. In the simulation results, when a CF-Poll piggyback is used, the delay is increased about 25% if any QSTA has the low physical transmission rate, while the delay is decreased about 7.8% if all QSTA has the high physical transmission rate. We also found that the gain of the CF-Poll piggyback mechanism is achieved when all QSTA has higher physical transmission rate than 24 or 36Mbps.

  • In this paper, we propose a transmission rate prediction method of video data. The proposed method checks shot transition characteristics after dividing MPEG video data into a GoP unit and then uses Kalman filter. It used algorithm to detect shot transition information by high speed in compressed domain in order to check a correct shot transition of video data and classified into a abrupt shot transition type and a gradual shot transition type. Information to have been classifying is used as factors of Kalman filter and predicts a transmission rate of video data. Also, the proposed method decreased processing time with detecting shot transition and predicting a transmission rate of video data in compressed domain. It predicted a transmission rate with 96.2- 97.6% in the experiment that used three kinds of 911 1frames of different video data.

  • In the adaptable bandwidth allocation technique, a transmission plan for variable rate video data is made by smoothing algorithms such as CBA algorithm and the data is sent by the transmission plan considering network traffic. But the CBA algorithm, the MCBA algorithm, MVBA algorithm and the other smoothing algorithms produce a transmission plan where the size of the increasing interval of transmission rate is generally larger than the size of the decreasing interval. And the transmission rate in CBA algorithm, the MCBA algorithm, the MVBA algorithm is changed in overflow curve during the increasing interval of transmission rate. This may cause many frames to be discarded when available transmission rate is larger than transmission rate by the transmission plan. In this paper, the smoothing algorithm, where transmission rate is changed in the middle of underflow curve and overflow curve to decrease the number of discarded frames, but the transmission rate increases at the minimum, and the CBA algorithm, the MCBA algorithm, the MVBA algorithm are applied to a transmission plan in the adaptable bandwidth allocation technique, and the minimum frame rates, the average frame rates, the variation of frame rates, and the numbers of discarded frames are compared in among algorithms.

  • In Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) terrestrial digital television (DTV) systems, additional very low-rate data can be transmitted by modulating the amplitude and polarity of the transmitter identification (TxID) signal. Although the additional data transmission scheme offers reliable transmission and has a very large coverage area, it has a limitation on the data rate. In this paper, we propose a novel additional data transmission scheme based on the TxID sequences of the ATSC DTV system and Walsh modulation. The proposed scheme not only increases the data rate significantly, but also offers a virtually identical coverage area compared to a conventional scheme.
