  • A seat suspension system with a controlled MR(Magneto Rheological) fluid damper is introduced to improve the ride quality and prevent the health risk of a driver compared to conventional seats. The system locates between a seat cushion and base, and is composed of a spring, MR fluid damper and controller. The MR fluid damper designed in valve mode is capable of producing a wide range of damping force according to applied currents. In experiments, a person was sitting on the controlled seat excited by a hydraulic system. The skyhook control, continuous skyhook control and relative displacement control were applied and the continuous skyhook control improved the vibration suppression by 36.6%.

  • In this paper, Firstly, it is shown that the high vibration source of piping system is the pulsation transmission of pipe line element, such as, orifice plate, valves and the control valve is a broad band source and the branch wall and the cavity have vortex frequency. Secondly, in order to decrese the high vibration of piping system, some practical Friction damper with high damping have been developed and its effectiveness is investigated as installing it at piping system practically.

  • Over- and under-application of pesticides to crops have recently become main concerns regarding the environment conservation, product cost and firmer's safety. Thus, a uniform and optimal application method of pesticides was needed. The objective of study was to evaluate flow compensating characteristics of a variable flow control system for a boom sprayer using a laboratory setup. At the most variable conditions, the control system was acceptable with the flowrate control strategy. However, the sprayer control system became unstably fluctuating at the long execution time with small tolerance because of the constant valve on-time. This problem was solved by employing a variable on-time control. The optimal values for the damping ratio and the execution time were 2 and 1.0 sec, respectively, with the tolerances less than 3%. The performance of the control system at the optimal conditions were the response time of 3.8sec and the absolute steady-state error of 0.5% with the stable RCV and ROS ( < 1.0).

  • Active suspension systems have been using for improving ride quality and stability for vehicles. An active suspension system is composed of a hydraulic pump, pressure control valves, hydraulic dampers, vehicle body, tires and other components. In this study, the mathematical model for the active suspension system based on the quarter car concept is derived, and a program for analysing the dynamic behaviour of the suspension system is developed. The computed results by the developed program are compared with the experimental results for confirming the reliability and usefulness of the developed program.

  • This paper describes a passive safety injection system with free piston Stirling pump working withabundant decay heat in the nuclear reactor during the hypothetical accident. The water column in the tube assembly connected from the hot chamber to the cold chamber in the pump oscillates periodically due to thermal volume changes of non-condensable gas in each chamber. The oscillating pressure in the water column is converted into the pumping power with a suction-and-bleed type valve assembly. In this paper a dynamic model describing the frequency of oscillation and pumping pressure is developed. It was found that the pumping pressure is a function of the temperature difference between the chambers. Also, the frequency oscillation depends on the length of the tube with water column.

  • Loading/Unloading task in the real industry is performed by crane, but most of the loading/unloading task with the weight of 5kg∼30kg is done by human workers and this kind of work causes industrial disaster of workers. Therefore it is necessary to develop low cost loading/unloading manipulator system to prevent this kind of industrial accidents. This paper is concerned with the design and fabrication of 2 axis pneumatic manipulators using on/off solenoid valves and accurate position control without respect to the external load and low damping in the pneumatic rotary actuator. To overcome the change of external load, switching of control parameter using LVQNN (Learning Vector Quantization Neural Network) is newly applied, which estimates the external loads in the pneumatic cylinder. As an underlying controller, a state feedback controller using position, velocity and acceleration is applied to the switching control system. The effectiveness of the proposed control algorithms are demonstrated through experiments of pneumatic cylinder with various loads.

  • Vibration has been severly increased at the branch pipe of main steam header since the commercial operation of nuclear power plant. Intense broad band disturbance flow at the discontinuous region such as elbow, valve, and header generates the acoustical pulsation which is propagated through the piping system. The pulsation becomes the source of low frequency vibration at piping system. If it coincide with natural frequency of the pipe system, excessive vibration is made. High level vibration due to the pressure pulsation related to high dynamic stress, and ultimately, to failure probability affects fatally the reliability and confidence of plant piping system. This paper discusses vibration effect for the branch pipe system due to acoustical pulsations by broad band disturbance flow at the large main steam header in 700 MW nuclear power plant. The exciting sources and response of the piping system are investigated by using on-site measurements and analytical approaches. It is identified that excessive vibration is caused by acoustical pulsations of 1.3 Hz, 4.4 Hz and 6.6 Hz transmitted from main steam balance header, which are coincided with fundamental natural frequencies of the piping structure. The energy absorbing restraints with additional stiffness and damping factor were installed to reduce excessive vibration.

  • In recent days, vibration isolation system is mostly required in precise measurement and manufacturing system to reduce vibration due to external disturbances and internal actuators. Among all the vibration isolation systems, air spring is widely used because of its low resonant frequency and high damping ratio. In this study, we first analyze the passive air-spring system using leveling valve, and then design the active vibration isolation system. Because the non-linearity of pneumatic characteristics, we try to design the fuzzy controller which is better than PID controller at complex and non-linear system, and then compare them both in experiment and simulation.

  • In this paper, a hydropneumatic modeling and dynamic analysis of a heavy truck semi-active cabin air suspension system is presented. Semi-active cabin air suspension system improves driver's ride comfort by controlling the damping characteristics in accordance with driving situation. So it can reduce vibration between truck frame and cabin. Semi-active cabin air suspension system is consist of air spring, leveling valve and CDC shock absorber, and full cabin system are mathematically modelled using AMESim software. Simulation results of components and full cabin system are compared with experimental data of components and test results of a cabin using 6 axis simulation table. It is found that the simulation results are in good agreements with test results, and the hydropneumatic model can be used well to predict dynamic characterics of heavy truck semi-active cabin air suspension system.
