The very large container ships have been built recently and those ships have very small structural rigidity compared with the other conventional ships. As a result, the destruction of ship hull is occurred by the springing including to warping phenomena due to encounter waves. In this study, the solutions of hydrodynamic coefficients are obtained by solving the three dimensional source distribution method and the forward speed Green function representing a translating and pulsating source potential for infinite water depth is used to calculating the integral equation. The vessel is longitudinally divided into various sections and the added mass, wave damping and wave exciting forces of each section is calculated by integrating the dynamic pressures over the mean wetted section surface. The equations for six degree freedom of motions is obtained for each section in the frequency domain and stiffness matrix is calculated by Euler beam theory. The computations are carried out for very large ship and effects of bending and torsional ridigity on the wave frequency and angle are investigated.

Numerical analyses of critical speed and mass unbalance response are performed for a 30 ton thrust turbopump. The stiffness and damping of ball bearings and non-contact seals are quantified under aerodynamic and hydrodynamic loads induced by a fuel pump and turbine. Critical speed margin and tip displacements of the rotating parts are evaluated using a three-dimensional finite element method. The results are used to ensure the soundness of the rotordynamic design using an one-dimensional transfer matrix method. A further study shows that sufficient resonance margin may be assured via controlling the stiffness of the rotor support by employing an additional elastic ring to the bearing support.
In the present study a parametric analysis is conducted to study the effect of pile dimension and soil properties on the nonlinear dynamic response of pile subjected to lateral sinusoidal load at the pile head. The study is conducted on soil-pile model of different pile diameter, pile length and soil modulus, and results are compared to get the effect. The soil-pile system is modelled using Finite element method. The programming is done in MATLAB. Time history analysis of model is done for varying non-dimensional frequency of load and the results are compared to get the non-dimensional frequency at which pile head displacement is maximum in each case. Maximum possible bending moment and soil-pile interacting forces for the dynamic excitation of the pile is also compared. When results are compared with the linear response, it is observed that non-dimensional frequency is reduced in nonlinear response on account of reduction in the soil stiffness due to yielding. Nonlinear response curve shows high amplitude as compared to linear response curve.

Due to increasing ship dimensions and installed propulsive power, resonance frequencies of the propeller shaft system tend to decrease and they can appear in some cases within the operating range of the shaft revolution. For calculation of transverse shaft vibrations, various methods have been proposed but as they are mainly for approximate calculation, no contented results are obtained. For fairly accurate estimation of resonance frequencies in the design stage, one can use transfer matrix method of the finite element method and former is rather prefered in ordinary cases. In this study, the finite element method which is utilized for calculation of the propulsion shaft alignment, is introduced to derive the vibration equation of the ship's propulsion shaftings. The digital computer program is developed to solve the above equation, and the details of preparing the input data are described. The method presented in the underlying report was applied to the shafting of ship which has a lignumvitae bearing to verify its reliability and the results of calculation and those of the measurements on rotating shaft show a good agreement. Calculating methods of exciting of forces and damping forces are also discussed for future work.
The purpose of this study is to investigate reinforced effect between silica treated by coupling agents and rubber matrix under the configuration chemical bonds, and the effect of silica particles coated by organic polymers using aluminum chloride as the catalyst. In vulcanization characteristies were tested by Curastometer. The M-series vulcanizates were reached to the fastest optimum cure $time(t_{90})$ and R-series vulcanizates with the same formula had the shorted optimum cure times. Tensile characteristics measuring with a tensile tester revealed that the M-series vulcanizate was the best in the physical properties, such as tensile strength. In 100% modulus, however, the S-series vulcanizates appeared to be better than the other vulcanizates. Also, hardness showed the following order : S-series>R-series>M-series with the order of elongation R-series>M-series>S-series. In SEM test, shapes of chemical treated silicas were observed. The dispersion of filler in the SBR composite appeard uniformly. In RDS test for the dynamic characteristics, G' indicates that S-3 shows the highest value with the next order M-3>R-3, and the order of damping values are as followe: M-3>M-3>R-3.

This paper presents a robust aeroelastic control methodology of a two dimensional flapped wing system exposed to an incompressible flow field. A robust controller is designed using a linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach for the multiobjective synthesis. The design objectives are to achieve a mix of $H_{\infty}$ performance and H₂ performance satisfying constraints on the closed loop pole locations in the presence of model uncertainties. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of LMI approach in damping out the aeroelastic response of 3-DOF flapped wing system.

An iterated improved reduced system (IIRS) procedure combined with sub-structuring scheme for nonclassically damped structural systems is presented. For dynamic analysis of such systems, complex eigenproperties are required to incorporate properly the nonclassical damping effect. In complex structural systems, the equations of motion are written in the state space from. Thus, the number of degrees of freedom of the new equations of motion and the size of the associated eigenvalue problem required to obtain the complex eigenvalues and eigenvectors are doubled. Iterated IRS method is an efficient reduction technique because the eigenproperties obtained in each iteration step improve the condensation matrix in the next iteration step. However, although this reduction technique reduces the size of problem drastically, it is not efficient to apply this technique to a single domain finite element model with degrees of freedom over several thousands. Therefore, for a practical application of the reduction method, accompanying sub-structuring scheme is necessary. In the present study, iterated IRS method combined with sub-structuring scheme for nonclssically damped structures is developed. Numerical examples demonstrate the convergence and the efficiency of a newly developed scheme.
A direct output feedback control scheme was recently proposed by the authors for single-story building structures resting on flexible soil body. In this paper, the control scheme is extended to mitigate the seismic responses of multi-story buildings. Soil-structure interaction is taken into account in two parts: input at the soil-structure interface/foundation and control algorithm. The former reflects the effect on ground motions and is monitored in real time with accelerometers at foundation. The latter includes the effect on the dynamic characteristics of structures, which is formulated by modifying the classical linear quadratic regulator based on the fundamental mode shape of the soil-structure system. Numerical result on the study of a $\frac{1}{4}$-scale three-story structure, supported by a viscoelastic half-space of soil mass, have demonstrated that the proposed algorithm is robust and very effective in suppressing the earthquake-induced vibration in building structures even supported on a flexible soil mass. Parametric studies are performed to understand how soil damping and flexibility affect the effectiveness of active tendon control. The selection of weighting matrix and effect of soil property uncertainty are investigated in detail for practical applications.
This paper aims to investigate the transient vibration behavior of functionally graded carbon nanotube (FG-CNT) reinforced nanocomposite plate resting on Pasternak foundation under pulse excitation. The plate is considered to be composed of matrix material and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with distribution as per the functional grading concept. The functionally graded distribution patterns in nanocomposite plate are explained more appropriately with the layer-wise variation of carbon nanotubes weight fraction in the thickness coordinate. The layers are stacked up in such a way that it yields uniform and three other types of distribution patterns. The effective material properties of each layer in nanocomposite plate are obtained by modified Halpin-Tsai model and rule of mixtures. The governing equations of an illustrative case of simply-supported nanocomposite plate resting on the Pasternak foundation are derived from third order shear deformation theory and Navier's solution technique. A converge transient response of nanocompiste plate under uniformly distributed load with triangular pulse is obtained by varying number of layer in thickness direction. The validity and accuracy of the present model is also checked by comparing the results with those available in literature for isotropic case. Then, numerical examples are presented to highlight the effects of distribution patterns, foundation stiffness, carbon nanotube parameters and plate aspect ratio on the central deflection response. The results are extended with the consideration of proportional damping in the system and found that nanocomposite plate with distribution III have minimum settling time as compared to the other distributions.
In order to develop an ultra-high-density elastomeric material for substitution of steel dynamic dampers, a new curing system and technique for high-loading of the filler were examined in this study. Mechanochemical modification of chloroprene rubber (MAH-g-CR) using an internal mixer was carried out with maleic anhydride (MAH) as a reactive monomer. The optimum amount of MAH was 10 phr and the efficient grafting of MAH on CR could be achieved at a mixing temperature of 100℃. After preparing MAH-g-CR, 50 mol% epoxidized natural rubber (ENR 50) was blended with MAH-g-CR to develop a "self-curable rubber blend system" via reaction between the functional groups of the elastomeric matrices without the curing agent and additives. The content of ENR 50 was fixed at 30 wt.% throughout evaluation of the curing behavior of the MAH-g-CR/ENR blend. Tungsten powder was added to the MAH-g-CR/ENR matrix up to 60 vol.% to obtain ultra-high-density, and the maximum density obtained was 7.57 g/㎤. Stable ts2 (scorch time) and t90 (90% cure time) could be obtained even when tungsten powder was incorporated up to 60 vol.%. In addition, the tensile strength and damping properties of MAH-g-CR/ENR containing 60 vol.% of tungsten were better than those of CR containing 60 vol.% of tungsten.
