Overall purposes of neuropsychological tests are summarized as follows: 1) Indentifying brain damage in individuals who have symptoms of uncertain etiology; 2) Assessing the extent and nature of deficits for forensic purposes and planning appropriate intervention; 3) Evaluating the effects of intervention or rehabilitation; 4) Examining the effects of various types of brain damage across different populations; and 5) Testing theoretical propositions about brain-behavior relationship. Of the neuropsychological tests, the Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery(LNNB) is easily transportable, relatively inexpensive, and performable by trained technician. The Korean version of LNNB is now being designed and will be used clinically in the near future. Localization and equipotential theories of brain function had been prevalent until Luria's theory of brain function. Brain, composed of three brain units in the theory, is the functional system in which each brain area has specific function and produce the function-related behavior. LNNB consists of 11 clinical scales, 5 summary scales, 8 localization scales, and 28 factor scales.

In this work we present a one-dimensional damage model capable of representing the dynamic fracture for elastodamage bar with combined hardening in fracture process zone - FPZ and softening with embedded strong discontinuities. This model is compared with another one we recently introduced (Do et al. 2015) and it shows a good agreement between two models. Namely, it is indicated that strain-softening leads to a sensitivity of results on the mesh discretization. Strain tends to localization in a single element which is the smallest possible area in the finite element simulations. The strain-softening element in the middle of the bar undergoes intense deformation. Strain increases with increasing mesh refinement. Strain in elements outside the strain-softening element gradually decreases to zero.
The virtual forces of the original local flexibility method are restricted to inducing stress on the local parts of a structure. To circumvent this restriction, we developed a pseudo local flexibility (PLFM) method that can successfully detect damage to hyperstatic beam structures using fewer modes. For this study, we further developed the PLFM so that it could detect damage in plate structures. We also devised the theoretical background for the PLFM with non-local virtual forces for plate structures, and both the lateral and rotary degree of freedom (DOF) measurements were considered separately. This study investigates the effects of the number of modes, the actual location that sustained damage, multiple damage locations, and noise in modal parameters for the damage detection results obtained from damaged numerical plates. The results revealed that the PLFM can be used for damage detection, localization, and quantification for plate structures, regardless of the use of the lateral DOF and/or rotary DOF.
Structural damage detection, damage localization and severity estimation of jacket platforms, based on calculating modal strain energy is presented in this paper. In the structure, damage often causes a loss of stiffness in some elements, so modal parameters; mode shapes and natural frequencies, in the damaged structure are different from the undamaged state. Geometrical location of damage is detected by computing modal strain energy change ratio (MSECR) for each structural element, which elements with higher MSECR are suspected to be damaged. For each suspected damaged element, by computing cross-modal strain energy (CMSE), damage severity as the stiffness reduction factor -that represented the ratios between the element stiffness changes to the undamaged element stiffness- is estimated. Numerical studies are demonstrated for a three dimensional, single bay, four stories frame of the existing jacket platform, based on the synthetic data that generated from finite element model. It is observed that this method can be used for damage detection of this kind of structures.
This paper presents an improved time series based damage detection approach with experimental verifications for detection, localization, and quantification of damage in shear-type structures under varying mass effects using output-only vibration data. The proposed method can be very effective for automated monitoring of buildings to develop proactive maintenance strategies. In this method, Auto-Regressive Moving Average models with eXogenous inputs (ARMAX) are built to represent the dynamic relationship of different sensor clusters. The damage features are extracted based on the relative difference of the ARMAX model coefficients to identify the existence, location and severity of damage of stiffness and mass separately. The results from a laboratory-scale shear type structure show that different damage scenarios are revealed successfully using the approach. At the end of this paper, the methodology limitations are also discussed, especially when simultaneous occurrence of mass and stiffness damage at multiple locations.

The paper presents quasi-static numerical simulations of the behaviour of short reinforced concrete beams without shear reinforcement under mixed shear-tension failure using the FEM and four various constitutive continuum models for concrete. First, an isotropic elasto-plastic model with a Drucker-Prager criterion defined in compression and with a Rankine criterion defined in tension was used. Next, an anisotropic smeared crack and isotropic damage model were applied. Finally, an elasto-plastic-damage model was used. To ensure mesh-independent FE results, to describe strain localization in concrete and to capture a deterministic size effect, all models were enhanced in a softening regime by a characteristic length of micro-structure by means of a non-local theory. Bond-slip between concrete and reinforcement was considered. The numerical results were directly compared with the corresponding laboratory tests performed by Walraven and Lehwalter (1994). The advantages and disadvantages of enhanced models to model the reinforced concrete behaviour were outlined.
An integrated damage identification system (IDIS) and system identification (SID) technique using modal information to detect damage in structures is presented. The objective is to detect damages in cracked model plate-girder without baseline modal parameters. The theory of damage localization and system identification is outlined. Experiments on a model plate-girder was described and a baseline model representing the experimental modal characteristics of the model plate-girder is updated using the system identification technique. Finally, damage inflicted in the model plate-girder is predicted using the IDIS software.
This study deals with damage detection in beam structure by using modal strain energy-based technique with three different sensor types: accelerometer, lead zirconate titanate (PZT) piezoelectric sensor and electrical strain gage. First, the use of direct piezoelectric effect of PZT sensor for dynamic strain response are presented. Next, a modal strain energy-based damage detection method is outlined. For validation, forced vibration tests are carried out on lab-scale aluminum cantilever beam. The dynamic responses are measured for several damage scenarios. Based on damage localization results, the performance of three different sensor types is evaluated.
The number of electric railway failures will increase due to the external and internal effects of electric railroads. The grounding test with 25,000V is to artificially test the transmission voltage to ground, and it is possible to cause risks of electric shock and other equipment insulation damage in neighboring enclosure. In 2016, method of fault localization changed to low - voltage at 380V from artificially high- voltage in the grounding tests since opening of Seoul Metropolitan Express Railway; The method is more accurate and safer rather than the previous one because it gets more data from unlimited grounding tests. However, an electric current falls on the track section where the track branches and vehicle bases with many lines. To precisely detect a transitive phenomenon, it is necessary to continuously study and additionally install.
In order to identify damage of highway bridges rapidly, a method for damage identification using dynamic response of bridge induced by moving vehicle and static test data is proposed. To locate damage of the structure, displacement energy damage index defined from the energy of the displacement response time history is adopted as the indicator. The displacement response time histories of bridge structure are obtained from simulation of vehicle-bridge coupled vibration analysis. The vehicle model is considered as a four-degree-of-freedom system, and the vibration equations of the vehicle model are deduced based on the D'Alembert principle. Finite element method is used to discretize bridge and finite element model is set up. According to the condition of displacement and force compatibility between vehicle and bridge, the vibration equations of the vehicle and bridge models are coupled. A Newmark-${\beta}$ algorithm based professional procedure VBAP is developed in MATLAB, and used to analyze the vehicle-bridge system coupled vibration. After damage is located by employing the displacement energy damage index, the damage extent is estimated through the least-square-method based model updating using static test data. At last, taking one simply supported bridge as an illustrative example, some damage scenarios are identified using the proposed damage identification methodology. The results indicate that the proposed method is efficient for damage localization and damage extent estimation.
