  • The behavior of a hemisphere-cylinder flight vehicle at high angles of attack and side slip angles have been studied. $0^{\circ}{\sim}35^{\circ}$ angles of attack and $0^{\circ}{\sim}5^{\circ}$ side slip angles were selected as fright conditions at Mach No. 0.3. Flow changes from low angles of attack to high angles of attack were compared and analyzed. We changed from low to high angles of attack with small side slip angles. We compared normal, side and axial force coefficients among various test cases.

  • Dynamic effect of gas in exhaust manifold influences the volumetric efficiency of the engine. Especially in case of multi-cylinder engine the shape of exhaust manifold is important for the opti-mum design of exhasut manifold complicated. In this paper the effects of exhaust manifold systems on volumetric efficiency were investigated for the 4 cylinder 4 stroke-cycle diesel engine. Volumetric efficiency was calculated by the method of characteristics. The calculation results coincided well the test results. This study showed that the appropriate position and diameter of exhaust manifold branch are important factors in increasing volumetric efficiency and decreasing pumping loss.

  • Pneumatic cylinder is widely used in the various industrial fields. Reliability Study of this field is very important part to the related companies. In this study, we want to predict the life of pneumatic cylinder using Cox (or proportional hazards) model. Used in biomedical applications, the Cox model can be used as an accelerated life testing model. We considered working pressure and temperature as stress factors. The statistical software is used to analyze and forecast the life data.

  • A two-phase method in CFD has been developed and is applied to model the cavitation flow. The governing equation system is two-phase Navier-Stokes equation, comprised of the mixture mass, momentum and liquid-phase mass equation. It employs an implicite, dual time, preconditioned algorithm using finite difference scheme in curvilineal coordinates and Chien ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence equation. The experimental cavitating flows around ogive-cylinder and venturi type objects are employed to test the solver. To prove the capabilities of the solver, several three-dimentional examples are presented.

  • Gas flow field within the cylinder which is called a tumble flow is important factor in improving lean combustion stability. In this study, steady state flow tests were performed to quantify tumble ratio of flowfields generated by a tumble intensifying valve(TIV). In addition, velocity and fluctuation profiles in an intake port and flowfields in th cylinder were inspected using a hotwire anemometer and a laser light sheet method with various TIV configurations. These experimental results show that installated TIV has a great effect on flow field distribution in an intake port and test effects enhance a tumble flow in the cylinder.

  • In this study, the corrosion resistance of the aluminum casting commercial materials used in the automotive engine parts with respect to the anti-freeze coolant environment has been tested by the potentio dynamic method. especially, the effect of borax additive in engine coolant on the corrosion resistance of the aluminum casting materials has been evaluated. It was found that the borax in commercial engine coolant, used to prevent the corrosion in cast iron engine, causes a pit corrosion of aluminum casting materials at high temperature. During the engine endurance test with the coolant containing borax, the aluminum cylinder head was failed by the pitting corrosion near the exhaust port. Conclusively, it was suggested that the use of borax in the anti-freeze coolant be restricted for the automotive with aluminum cylinder head.

  • In this study, the combustion characteristics and durability of a diesel engine using emulsified fuel was investigated. Water was used in oil type emulsified fuel. In order to understand the effect of emulsified fuel in a wide range of engine running conditions, D-13 mode was selected as a test condition, and a durability test was included to understand the long-term effect of water. Combustion pressure in a cylinder, exhaust emissions, specific fuel consumption, sound level and maximum torque were measured. NOx and PM were simultaneously reduced and the specific fuel consumption was increased and decreased at low and high loads, respectively. There was no trouble and any damage on the parts of the cylinder during a 500 hour durability test.

  • Social requirements to the civil and building structures have been changed in accordance with the social and economic progress. It is very important to develop the innovative structural materials and tecnology that the social requirements appropriately. Ductility of High Performance Fiber Reinforced cementitious Composites (HPFRCC), which exhibit strain hardening and multiple crackling characteristics under the uniaxial tensile stress are drastically improved. Because ductility in tensile test are very different according to specimen shapes, three types of the direct tensile test are performed. The tensile test are performed using the tensile test specimen, dummbell-shaped specimen, and cylinder specimen. As a result, tensile performance in HPFRCC is very good comparing to cylinder specimen because of direction characteristics of fibers. It is necessary to clarify the examination method of suiting to the usage.

  • Test Facility for hot firing test of small size liquid rocket engine has been developed to research the cooing characteristics of kerosene for cylinder part especially. Propellants for the tests are kerosene and liquid oxygen as fuel and oxidizer respectively and they are fed by gaseous nitrogen. The engine components used hot firing test except for cylinder are cooled by tap-water. Valves for supply of propellants and coolants are controlled by pneumatically. System control and data recording are conducted automatically.
