Recently, the load increasement and new regenerative systems of electrified railway system make it a difficult to distinguish between the load current and fault current. The failure of traction system perhaps causes over-current to flow. The high current can collapse other railway systems. If failures of the traction system takes place, the failures are detected and protected lest it should provoke high current flow. The over current from such a traction system failure permit to charge high tension voltage and produces high temperature arc, voltage instability, current cutting, and break down railway systems. The traction system failures detect and the system has to immediately cut off from over-current flow. To isolate the failure, the system can distinguish failure current from current flows. It forces us to adapt such as a new intelligent protection system. The protective system in traction system play a role of detecting and isolating failure points. In this paper, we proposed intelligent algorithm for discriminating normal and abnormal situation instead of the system being operated abnormally.

Since the oil shocks of 1970s, the quality of the fuel oil for marine diesel engines has become more degarded than ever. When the poorer quality fuel is burned, carbon residues of the fuel oil cause blockage of the fuel injection valve nozzle and troubles of fuel injection system. The mis-firing of engine occurs due to the decrease of fuel quantity injected, the decrease of compression pressure in the slow speed range, the increase of fuel leaked and the high ignition temperature of degraded fuel etc. This paper is to investigate theoretically the effects of mis-firing on the crankshaft axial vibration of diesel engine. The cylinder pressure in operation is calculated by the computer aided simulation of closed cycle for a large two-stroke diesel engine and also the exciting force of axial vibration and the resonance amplitudes are calculated. And then, the condition of normal state, misfiring and one-cylinder cut-off operation are analyzed. The results of calculations show good agreements with those of the actual measurements.

The role of electromagnetic (EM) waves in magnetic fusion plasma-ranging from radio frequency (RF) to microwaves-has been extremely important, and understanding of EM wave propagation and related technology in this field has significantly advanced magnetic fusion plasma research. Auxiliary heating and current drive systems, aided by various forms of high-power RF and microwave sources, have contributed to achieving the required steady-state operation of plasmas with high temperatures (i.e., up to approximately 10 keV; 1 eV=10000 K) that are suitable for future fusion reactors. Here, various resonance values and cut-off characteristics of wave propagation in plasmas with a nonuniform magnetic field are used to optimize the efficiency of heating and current drive systems. In diagnostic applications, passive emissions and active sources in this frequency range are used to measure plasma parameters and dynamics; in particular, measurements of electron cyclotron emissions (ECEs) provide profile information regarding electron temperature. Recent developments in state-of-the-art 2D microwave imaging systems that measure fluctuations in electron temperature and density are largely based on ECE. The scattering process, phase delays, reflection/diffraction, and the polarization of actively launched EM waves provide us with the physics of magnetohydrodynamic instabilities and transport physics.
The object of study were the development of membrane process and the optimization of operation condition for membrane system, which was used the pre-treatment system of tap water treatment in steady of conventional process such as coagulation, sedimentation. The higher steady flux is very important factor, by a suitable pre-treatment and optimization of operating condition such as fouling control, crossflow and backwashing method, in membrane system. So, we were observed the effect of flux decline for membrane used by 4 type ultrafiltration(UF) membrane pre-treatment process, and optimized the operation condition of filtration system under various MWCO(Molecular weight cut-off), operation pressure, linear velocity and temperature to maintain higher flux. From these experiment, we were identified that UF process showed a slower flux decline rate and a higher flux recovery than microfiltration(MF) membrane. The water quality of UF permeate was better than that of MF, and was not effected pre-treatment process. In the operation condition, the rate of flux decline was diminished by a higher linear velocity and operation temperature, lower pressure.

3phase induction motor consumes 40% of national electric power. so It is one of the most important electric device for the national power policy. The efficiency measurement is carried out by IEC standards. After the temperature rise test, It's difficult to measure the winding resistance immediately. because of inertia and power cut-off time. Therefore, IEC standards suggest the measurement time. But during the measurement time, the winding temperature cools down. It causes the value of winding resistance is variable. Several conditions which possibly occurred by the measurement time of IEC 60034-1 are suggested. and The efficiency evaluation of 3phase induction motors is carried out by IEC 60034-2-1 with the several conditions. As the results, we find out the winding resistance rapidly goes down within 15 sec. so It proves that the winding resistance should be measured within 15 sec. for the efficiency evaluating of 3phase induction motor.

In this study, Li2O-BaO-Ga2O3-TeO2-TiO2-GeO2 glasses with high transmittance in mid-infrared region and high refractive indices were successfully synthesized. The relationship between glass properties and glass composition was analyzed. In Li2O-BaO-Ga2O3-TeO2-TiO2-GeO2 glass system, as increasing TeO2 concentration, the refractive index increases and the glass transition temperature decreases. In addition, as increasing BaO concentration, the refractive index increases without decrease of Abbe number. The IR-cut off wavelength shifted to the longer wavelength with increasing TeO2 and BaO contents due to their large molecular weight. The glass transition temperature significantly decreases when BaO was replaced with Li2O.
The development mechanisms of an unusual heavy snowfall event, which occurred in the coast of Jeju Island on 23 January 2016 were investigated through a thermodynamic approach. The formation of heavy snowfall was attributed to the enhanced thermal convection in two ways. First, the convection was enhanced by the air-sea temperature difference between the cold air advection in low-troposphere associated with the strengthening of the Siberian High and abnormal warm sea surface temperature, which is $1{\sim}2^{\circ}C$ higher than normal year over the Yellow Sea (YS). Second, the convective instability was increased by the vertical temperature gradient between the 7 days-sustained cold air advection in low-troposphere and the abrupt cold air intrusion in mid-troposphere induced by the southward shift of a cold cut-off vortex ($-45^{\circ}C$) at the formation stage. Compared to the twelve hours prior to the formation, the low-level moisture increased by 5% through the moisture supply from the YS, and the air-sea temperature difference increased from $18.5^{\circ}C$ to $28.5^{\circ}C$. Furthermore, the upward sensible (latent) heat flux increased 1.5 (1.2) times over the YS before the twelve hours prior to the formation. Thereafter, the sustained moisture supply and upward turbulent heat flux helped to maintain the snowstorm.

Sealing structure to prevent flowing hot gas into the driving device, located between the driving shaft and the liner of On-Off valve for controlling the hot gas flow path was studied. Wear occurs due to the constant movement of the driving shaft controlled by actuator on graphite as the sealing material. In this paper, the dynamic wear behavior in high temperature of graphite(HK-6) to be used as sealing material was evaluated. Reciprocating wear test was carried out for the graphite(HK-6) to the relative motion between shaft materials(W-25Re). The results of friction coefficient and specific wear rate according to contact load, sliding speed at room temperature and $485^{\circ}C$ considering the actual operating environment were evaluated. Through the SEM analysis of the worn surface, third body as lubricant films were observed and lubricant effect of third body was considered.

An infrared heating system, installed in a small venlo-type glasshouse ($280m^2$) in Gyeongsang National University, Jinju, Korea, was used to investigate its heating effect with potted Phalaenopsis, Schefflera arboricola 'Hongkong', Ficus elastica 'Variegata', and Rosa hybrida 'Yellow King' as the test plants. Temperature changes in test plants with the system turned 'On' and 'Off' were measured by using an infrared camera and the consumption of electricity by this infrared heating system was measured and analyzed. In potted Phalaenopsis, when the set air temperature of the greenhouse was $18^{\circ}C$, temperature of leaves and the growing medium were $22.8{\sim}27^{\circ}C$ and $21.3{\sim}24.3^{\circ}C$, respectively. In such tall plants as Schefflera arboricola 'Hongkong' and Ficus elastica 'Variegata', the upper part showed the highest temperature of 24.0 and $26.9^{\circ}C$, respectively. From the results of temperature change measurements, the plant temperatures were near or above the set point temperatures with some fluctuations depending on the position or distance from the infrared heating system. When air temperature between night and dawn dropped sharply, plant temperatures were maintained close to the set temperature ($18^{\circ}C$). There was a significant difference between 'On' and 'Off' states of the infrared heating system in average temperatures of root zone and leaf: 21.8 and $17.8^{\circ}C$ with the system 'On' and 20.4 and $15.5^{\circ}C$ with the system 'Off', respectively, in a cut rose Rosa hybrida 'Yellow King'. The heating load was about $24,850{\sim}35,830kcal{\cdot}h^{-1}$, which comes to about 27,000~40,000 won in Korean currency when calculated in terms of the cost of heating by a hot water heating system heated by petroleum. The cost for heating by the infrared heating system was about 35% of that of a hot water heating system. With the infrared heating system, the air temperature during the night was maintained slightly lower than the set point air temperature, probably due to the lack of air tightness of the glasshouse. Therefore, glasshouses with an infrared heating system requires further investigation including the installation space of the heat-emitting units, temperature sensor positions, and convection.

The thermal control device for the periodic working component combined solid-liquid phase change material (PCM) with heat pipes is designed and numerically studied. Due to high latent heat and retaining constant temperature during melting process the component peak temperature, not withstanding small radiator size, is reduced. The warm-up heater power consumption to keep the minimum allowed temperature is also cut down since the accumulated thermal energy is released through the solidification. The thermal buffer mass (TBM) made of Al can give the similar effect but the mass and power consumption of warm-up heater should increase compared to PCM. The amount of PCM can be optimized depending on the component heat dissipation and on/off duty time.
