Automotive brake system is an essential element for the safety. The system is powered by the circulation of brake oil. A braker hose is used for the circulation of the oil in this system. Layout of the hose changes according to the steering and stress occur in the hose. A lot of the durability tests are performed in order to prevent serious problems such as hose bursting by the accumulation of the stress before setting an optimized hose layout on automobile. The test is conducted for the layout which is same such as set in automobile. In the test, brake hose layout shall exercise the same mode of thousands of times under the high temperature and periodic pressure condition and then the damage of the tested hose is inspected. This test, however, has a disadvantage of heavy consumption of time and money. In order to compensate for these drawbacks, the finite element method(FEM) study was performed to predict the changes in the layout of the brake hose. In this study, the FEM results and the test results were compared and the validity was verified. The radius of curvature of the FEM and test at the same positions were especially investigated for the validation. Also, this study will be used as the basis of research on the life prediction of brake hose.

This paper studies on the rudder shapes for the suppression of the cavitation around a horn-type rudder. To improve the problems due to cavitation, there have been several studies. However, these some studies are recognized as incomplete ways to suppress the rudder cavitation. In this study, the section shapes to suppress the cavitation phenomena are determined by moving the location of maximum thickness for reducing the curvature variation and changing the radius of leading edge. Also, in the pintle part, the curvature radius of the inlet outlet edge of rudder plate is changed. During the design of rudder shape, two-dimensional numerical simulations are firstly performed because those offer some advantages with that cavitation phenomena becomes predictable for a short time, and then the three-dimensional numerical simulations are performed to confirm the determination. The time mean distribution of the propeller slipstream is imposed on the inlet boundary condition. As some results, this paper shows the effects reducing the range of the occurrence of cavitation, and suggests the references on the design of a horn-type rudder for the suppression of cavitation phenomena.
In this study, process analysis of elbow-shaped tubes using a mandrel has been performed. To reach the final shape within the dimensional tolerance, the process analysis has been performed at various processing parameters such as tube dimensions, the curved cutting surface and the radius of curvature. The area outside the boundary of the target shape was expressed as a quantitative index to analyze the formability. The validation experiments have also been performed in order to increase the reliability of the process analysis. For the processing of elbow-shaped tubes, it is preferable to make the angle of the portion where the punch touches the tube smaller than the opposite angle. And the convex cutting surface is advantageous due to the increased contacts between the punch and the tube ends during the bending process. Elbow tube having larger radius of curvature shows higher dimensional accuracy due to the relatively uniform strain distribution.
The purpose of this research was to investigate the differences in the ski carving turn motion according to level of expertise. The posture and movement of 6 skiers nearby the fall-line was evaluated with a biomechanical approach focusing the rotational mechanics. The slope was at an angle of $9^{\circ}$ and the following variables were measured and calculated: tangential velocity, change of COM height after passing fall-line, width between feet, angle between upper body and thigh, trunk angle, average radius of curvature and average centripetal force. The expert skiers minimized their center of mass height movement and maintained the width of between their feet after the passing the fall-line in comparison with the beginners and intermediate skiers. The experts restrained themselves from pushing their upper body downward after the turn to maximize the centripetal force. The experts in comparison with the beginners and intermediate skiers during the turn didn't have to reduce their radius of curvature to maintain a high centripetal force. It was concluded, that the most important factor affecting the centripetal force, was for the beginners and intermediate skiers, to minimize their movement while using the appropriate amount of edging.
The objective of this study is to compensate the elastic recovery in the flexible forming process using the predictive models. The target shape was limited to two-dimensional shape having only one curvature radius in the longitudinal-direction. In order to predict the shape error the regression and neural network models were established based on the finite element (FE) simulations. A series of simulations were conducted considering input variables such as the elastic pad thickness, the thickness of plate, and the objective curvature radius. Then, at sampling points in the longitudinal-direction, the shape errors between formed and objective shapes could be calculated from the FE simulations as an output variable. These shape errors were expressed to a representative error value by the root mean square error (RMSE). To obtain the correct objective shape the die shape was adjusted by the closed-loop using the neural network model since the neural network model shows a higher capability of estimating the shape error than the regression model. Finally the experimental result shows that the formed shape almost agreed with the objective shape.
The horizontal alignment of road is deeply related with the stability of the road and traffic capacity. It is necessary to analyze horizontal alignment of road accurately for efficient maintenance of the road and relevance judgment about the standard. Recently the study on horizontal alignment of road using Lidar data and GPS was concluded, but they were many problem analyzing horizontal alignment radius of curvature in wide area. In this study, the tool which the radius of curvature can evaluate the suitability about "Rules about the Road Structure & Facilities Standards" by using center lines of the road of the digital map tries to implement on GIS. The interface was designed and implemented which can automatically estimate the Road Centerline Horizontal Alignment by using $ESRI^{(R)}$$ArcObject^{TM}$.
We formerly reported a new method for the upward continuation of potential field on spherical patch area including Earth's curvature, which has been neglected in most studies on rectangular area with flat Earth assumption. This new method is applicable to downward continuation as well by only assigning corresponding value for the ratio of two radii; $r_2/r_1$, i.e., target radius $r_2$ versus datum radius $r_1$. In addition, the inherent problem of this method due to spherical surface geometry is described, and its one possible remedy is given.
The flow characteristics varying with the rate of the radius of curvature to width (Rc/B) in open channel bends are investigated with a simplified numerical model, briefly. Secondary flow velocity and transverse bed slope are formulated from the equations of moment of momentum and force balance analysis, respectively. The conservation equations of mass and streamwise momentum are simplified by depth integration and its solution could be obtained form explicit finite difference method. Three sets of computer simulation are executed. The rates of Rc/B adopted in simulations are 2.7, 5.4, 8.1 , respectively. The terms analyzed in this paper are secondary flow velocity, streamwise velocity, the path of maximum streamwise velocity, deviation angle, and mass-shift velocity.

Concave surface boundary-layer flows are subjected to centrifugal instability which results in the formation of streamwise counter-rotating vortices. Such boundary layer flows have been experimentally investigated on concave surfaces of 1 m and 2 m radius of curvature. In the experiments, to obtain uniform vortex wavelengths, thin perturbation wires placed upstream and perpendicular to the concave surface leading edge, were used to pre-set the wavelengths. Velocity contours were obtained from hot-wire anemometer velocity measurements. The most amplified vortex wavelengths can be pre-set by the spanwise spacing of the thin wires and the free-stream velocity. The velocity contours on the cross-sectional planes at several streamwise locations show the growth and breakdown of the vortices. Three different vortex growth regions can be identified. The occurrence of a secondary instability mode is also shown as mushroom-like structures as a consequence of the non-linear growth of the streamwise vortices. Wall shear stress measurements on concave surface of 1 m radius of curvature reveal that the spanwise-averaged wall shear stress increases well beyond the flat plate boundary layer values. By pre-setting much larger or much smaller vortex wavelength than the most amplified one, the splitting or merging of the streamwise vortices will respectively occur.

The Laminar lifted methane jet flames diluted with helium and nitrogen in co-flow air have been investigated experimentally. The chemiluminescence intensities of $OH^{\ast}$ and $CH_2O^{\ast}$ radicals and the radius of curvature for tri-brachial flame were measured using an intensified charge coupled device (ICCD) camera, monochromator and digital video camera. The product of $OH^{\ast}$ and $CH_2O^{\ast}$ is used as a excellent proxy of heat release rate. These methane jet flames could be lifted in buoyancy and jet dominated regimes despite the Schmidt number less than unity. Lifted flames were stabilized due to buoyancy induced convection in buoyancy-dominated regime. It was confirmed that increased $OH^{\ast}$ and $CH_2O^{\ast}$ concentration caused an increase of edge flame speed via enhanced chemical reaction in buoyancy dominated regime. In jet momentum dominated regime lifted flames were observed even for nozzle exit velocities much higher than stoichiometric laminar flame speed. An increase in radius of curvature in addition to the increased $OH^{\ast}$ and $CH_2O^{\ast}$ concentration stabilizes such lifted flames.
