This research starts from the questioning of current housing development situation on hilly sites in Korea. It aims to investigate various design techniques of terraced housing as an alternative housing type on sloped sites. Several generic solutions are proposed, as for site slope and stacking method, combination of dwelling units, access pattern, and sectional variation of unit space. By the comparative analysis of design proposals with the typical two-row vertical-access type, the efficiency of the proposed techniques are verified in terms of development density, provision of community space, habitability of dwelling units.
This research starts from the questioning of current housing development situation on hilly sites in Korea. It aims to investigate various design techniques of row-rise housing as an alternative housing type on hilly sites. Several generic solutions are proposed by considering the density of dwelling, parking plans, exterior space and access patterns, making full use of geographical features of hilly site and existing facilities. In order to promote development feasibility of proposed plans, the efficiency of the proposed techniques are verified in terms of development density, enhancement of community space, habitability of housing.
'Hanok(韓屋)' is the settlement that our ancestors completed for our lives through multiple verifications. Thus, there exists our nation's identity and a variety of tangible and intangible cultural elements are included in that settlement. Even though the dwelling planning of Hanok has been introduced by the modern trends of traditional style, it can not present the type of various space compositions according to the area and living characteristics and it shows a disparity in our real life through the introduction of the traditional Hanok's elements which are not fit into contemporary housing without filtration. To solve these problems, it must need to study on cases based on the present situation of the Hanok and analysis on characteristics. For the Hanok to meet the development of modern residence, there needs to study on many fields such as plan, complex, structure, material. Among them, this study intends to present the preliminary data for the improvement of Hanok's effectiveness by understanding and analyzing the current situation focusing on the natural transformation of Hanok which are currently building in Milyang Area. Also, as the second step of this study, this study attempts to analyze based on the present situation of New Hanok in Kyeongnam province by expanding the range.
This study aims to suggest improvement plans and explain about the current situation for facilitating Long-life housing, based on the results on flexibility items among 27 items consisting the "Housing Performance Grading System". From the 9th of January, 2006 to the month of July in 2011, study has analyzed evaluation results on 216 different types for each grade and reviewed evaluation criteria and methods. Current evaluation criteria applies quantitative analysis, by calculating in percentage how much bearing walls and columns, which hinder flexibility, take up space in the household. The evaluation rate for each household was assessed in relation to its structural system, and a higher grade was given to column-typed structures. In addition, to facilitate long-life housing, this study extracted harmful factors, expanding the range of evaluation. The first step was to evaluate structure, which is the basic element. The second step can to evaluate the probability of applying resources in response to the changes of structural systems. As The third step, Flexibility item will evaluate the probability of moving the water-using area, suggesting gradual approach. Thus, through evaluations of flexibility items, the study aims to improve the quality of life in household, by avoiding uniform structures and acquiring more freedom for space designs.
Recently, In Korea, diverse elderly facilities have increased by geometric progression cope with rapidly aging society. But, there haven't been enough systematic understanding about elderly housing. Then, analyze the cases of categorizations in developed countries. Finally, the research point out current problems and make criteria in housing environmental aspects. It will contribute to understand elderly housing designing aging friendly environment.
Multi-residential housing in Korea has many problems basically because maintenance, management, and remodelling have been done without considering building elapse and residents' needs. Residential open building has been suggested as one of the solutions. Even though the techniques have been actively developed for residential open building in Japan and the Netherlands, some obstacles are still existing. Especially in Korea, due to the lack of studies for facilitating residential open building, the development and popularization of residential open building are delayed. With the concern that the facilitation of process and systems is as important as technical development, the evaluation of process and systems is needed for promoting residential open building. As result, strong investigation of current situation can offer basic foundation to facilitate residential open building. The purpose of this study is to propose plans to facilitate residential open building in Korea through a comparative study between Korean and Japanese system.
The purpose of this study was to examine how residents of assisted living facility (ALF) are satisfied with their residence and to identify the reasons for this satisfaction or dissatisfaction as a home. For this purpose, residents'experiences and opinions of the physical environment, the social environment, and the organizational environments such as policies and programs of ALFs were identified. As a multi-site case study, five ALFS in Southwest Virginia were studied using a cross-case analysis. Face-to-face interviews with 25 residents and five administrators of five ALFs, observations, and personal journal were done. Regardless of the type of facilities and the residents'characteristics, most of the respondents were satisfied with their current dwelling. In spite of high satisfaction with the facility, many people did not think of their current dwelling as a real "home." Residents of ALFs may have reordered their priorities in their current life situation so that safety, security, and care were more important to them than feeling "at home.""at home."

The sample included 108 respondents over the age 65 who consisted of elderly-couple or single person household with homeownership in Seoul. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics. Based on the findings of the study, the present incidence and recognition of future need in kitchen modification were identified. Changes in kitchen space made tended to be nonstructural or relatively inexpensive items. In conclusion, this study suggests several ideas for improving current physical problems of kitchen space to support daily living of older residents.
The purpose of this study is to suggest the basic data on the direction of housing research trends by dividing both research methods and research contents through precedent studies related to elderly housing. We drew four major conclusions through this research. First, in general, the research activities for elderly housing has been conducted actively since 2000 to begin in earnest after 1990. This result shows that it is related with the reform of welfare laws for the elderly in 1993, with the change of government policies and the increase of social interest in elderly people's lives. Second, early studies had been started to focus on elderly home residents if we look into research results according to research methods. In 1993, The Elderly Welfare Act was reformed by the government and then researches for elderly welfare facilities were also increased by a permission of government to run private elderly welfare facilities for making profit. This movement caused to expand research targets from general elderly people to their families, facility staffs and experts. Third, in case of research contents past studies were mostly conducted on the space planning and its actual situation. However, current studies are made under diverse viewpoint with the increase of elderly housing and elderly welfare facilities according to reforms of laws and changes of resident's perception. Fourth, because of rapid transition to an aging society the studies of elderly housing were influenced by the changes of policies and social consciousness.
In the upcoming 21st century, we predict change and development in various aspects. Some fundamental causes of change in housing lifestyles such as the change in family make-up are gradually becoming more and more realistic problems as the society is shifting to the younger generation family make up refer to the rapid increase of the agedpopulation, growth of single households, the drop in the number of family members, the change in the economic situation and technology level, and change in values. The purpose of this research is to, more away from the standardized supply of housing and to approach apartment housing plans in multilateral aspects, compare and analyze the difference between the housing demands of different generations and the influence that the current housing type has on demand forecasting by case studies of Unit Living Space planning that we will utilize the participating design method in which parents and children took part in.
