PURPOSES: The performance of tack coat, commonly used for layer interface bonding, is affected by application rate and curing time. In this study, bonding strength tests were performed according to the application rate and curing time of asphalt emulsion. Based on finding from this study, optimum application rates and curing times are proposed. METHODS: In order to investigate bonding characteristic of asphalt emulsion, tests were performed on both asphalt concrete pavement and portland concrete pavement. Also, asphalt emulsions were tested at the application rate of 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, and $0.8{\ell}/m^2$ and at the curing time of 0, 0.5, 1, 2, and 24 hours. Pull-off test and shear bonding strength test, which commonly used for bonding strength measurement of asphalt emulsion, were adopted for this study. To assess field performance under different testing condition, asphalt emulsions were applied to in-service pavement. Throughout coefficient of determination analysis between material index properties from asphalt emulsion and mechanical response from bonding strength tests, performance correlativity was analyzed. RESULTS: Test results show that optimum application rate for asphalt overlay on asphalt concrete pavement (AOA) and asphalt overlay on concrete pavement (AOC) was $0.4{\sim}0.5{\ell}/m^2$ and $0.3{\sim}0.5{\ell}/m^2$, respectively. According to the curing time increment, tensile strength and shear strength of AOC were increased to 22~44% and 20~39%, respectively. AOA case also show strength increment in tensile strength (42%) and shear strength (9%). We tested the applicability of tack coat materials at the field sites, and our findings demonstrated that the bonding (for D and E) and rapid curing (for B, C, and D, E) performances were superior than others. Among material index properties, there was a high correlation between penetration ratio and bonding strength test result. CONCLUSIONS : Result show that interlayer bonding strength was affected by asphalt emulsion type, application rate and curing time. AOC required slightly higher application ($0.1{\ell}/m^2$) than AOA. Both AOA and AOC cases show higher strength at longer curing time. Up to 2hours of curing, rapid strength increments were observed, but strength increment ratio was decreased after 2hours of curing. From the observed correlation between penetration ratio and bonding strength, it is expected that penetration ratio can be used as one of important factors affecting bonding strength analysis.

Polyurethane adhesive is used in various fields as flexible packaging materials including a food packaging field. Therefore, the purpose of this study is synthesis of polyurethane adhesive which uses aliphatic isocyanate, and compares with aromatic isocyanate. The isocyanates for this test are toluene-2,4-diisocyanate(TDI), hexamethylene diisocyanate(HDI), 4,4-dicyclohexyl ethane diisocyanate($H_{12}MDI$), and isophorone diisocyanate(IPDI). And, the effect of any other diisocyanate are evaluated by several methods as for curing rate test, accelerate weathering test, and peel strength test. The polyurethane adhesive using curing catalyst and HDI has adhesion strength of about 560 g/15 mm between aluminium foil and nylon, about 1,520 g/15 mm between nylon and CPP. Those parameters are similar to polyurethane adhesive with TDI. Also, in case of curing rate, those are similar to TDI type polyurethane adhesive. Moreover, data of ${\Delta}E$ as color variation by QUV tester is equal to 4.12, as 48% against those of TDI type.
It is known that the Q/C(Quality Control) in the early age of portland cement concrete(PCC) pavement gives a huge effect on long term pavement performance. Thus, many studies regarding the construction of PCC pavement have focused on how to assure construction quality at the early age stage. Curing is one of the most important factor in Q/C of PCC pavement. Membrane curing that protects the evaporation of moisture by placing an impermeable layer on the slab surface is the most common practice for curing the PCC pavement. In order to improve the membrane curing practice, the rate of curing compound should be optimized. However, the optimum rate of curing compound considering Korean weather and environmental conditions has not been specified in the pavement construction specifications. In this study, a proper application rate was recommended in terms of minimizing evaporation with several full-scale tests where various rates of curing compound have been applied. Four test sites on the expressway were enlisted during the summer of 2002 and 2003. Application rates tested were in the range of $0. The rate of evaporation, the temperature pattern of the slab and the pulse velocity of concrete surface have been monitored at each test construction. The result from this study showed that the rate of current construction was approximately $160ml/m^2$ and that approximately $400ml/m^2$ of curing application was recommended as the proper rate for minimizing the moisture evaporation.

This study was conducted to investigate some effects of Cemesol on acidresistance and compressive strength of concrete. In mix design of concrete, the cemesol was used as an admixture of cement, and it was added to the mix in an amount equal to 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3%, and 0.4% by weight of cement of the mix. Concrete specimens were made in accordance with the. Korean Standard Specification for concrete and they were tested for acid-resistance and compressive strength at 2 weeks intervals through 8 weeks. The tests were performed in two cases non-curing and curing for 28 days. The results obtained from the tests are summarized as follows. 1. Refering to acid-resistance test, the cemesol was comparatively effective at every cemesol content except 0.3% in case of non-curing and it was found that cemesol content of 0.4% was the optimum. On the other hand, the cemesol was ineffective in case of curing, but it was seen that cemesol content of 0.1% had some effect at 6 to 8 weeks curing only. 2. Refering to compressive strength test, the cemesol was remarkably effective at a content of 0.1% but it was also shown most inefiective at content of 0.3% in case of non-curing. On the other hand the cemesol was comparatively effective at every content of cemesol except a content of 0.2% in case of curing and it was determined that the cemesol content of 0.3% may be an optimum content. 3. Since optimum cemesol content varied according to acid-resistance, compressive strength and cases such as non-curing and curing, as indicated above may be desirable to choose an optimum cemesol content suitable for purposes and ciroumstances of construction works or conditions of location. 4. The corrosive rate was proportional to compressive strength in case of non-curing, but the relation was reversed in case of curing. It was found that corrosive rate for 8 weeks did not influence compressive strength in case of non-curing but compressive strength in case of curing begins to vary under the influence of corrosion. Thus, corrosion may be more serious to compressive strength in case of curing than that in case of non-curing.

A massive amount of marine clay produced as dredging of coast and sea bed is often dumped in open sea and filled in pond. The treatment of marine clay demand a large area and make fatal environmental problems for echo system. This research work intend to manufacture a light-weight landfill materials which are produced by mixing the dredged marine clay with various amount cement and foam. An extensive Uniaxial and Triaxial compression test are carried out to investigate the strength characteristics of the light-weight cement mixed marine clay with foam under various test conditions. The results indicated that the required unit weight has been achieved with negligible change after 28days curing time in water. It is also recognized that the compressive strength of light-weight landfill materials linearly decrease with increasing initial water content, and the rate of strength decrease with increasing initial water content in water curing was smaller than that of air curing Futhermore, the rate of strength decreased with increasing initial water content, however, the rate become smaller as cement content increased.

This study applied BS replacement mortar's ERCO to see what impact it has on moisture evaporation and contraction changes, and resulted in the following. Depending on the rate of change in length according to the cure method of BS replacement mortar, high-strength areas were shown to have a bigger increase in the rate of change in length than regular or low-strength areas, and differences in rate of change in length due to ERCO cure methods were shown to be slight. For rate of changes in mass, on the whole there was an increase in the order of dry curing, cover curing, 7-day water curing, and28-day water curing. A comprehensive view says that after removal of test piece specimens, ERCO application did not expect a sufficient curing effect in the BS area.

Bottom Ash is industrial by-product from a thermoelectric power plant. An immense quantities of bottom ash have increased each year, but most of them is reclaimed in ash landfill. In this study, in order to raise recycling rate of Bottom Ash, it is suggested to cure Bottom Ash (BA) mixtures mixed with cement, lime, Fly Ash (FA), and oyster shell (OS). Mixtures of 5~20 % mixing ratio had been cured for 1, 3, 7, 14, and 28 days using sealed curing and air-dry curing method. Unconfined compressive strength test was conducted to determine strength and deformation modulus ($E_{50}$) change for mixtures as mixing ratio and curing day, water contents of mixtures were measured after test. As a result, strength and $E_{50}$ were increased as mixing ratio and curing days, but values and tendencies of them appeared in different as kind of mixture, mixing ratio, curing method, and curing days. The results showed the addition of cement, lime, Fly Ash, and oyster soil in Bottom Ash could improved strength and $E_{50}$ and enlarge its field of being used.
In this study, we prepared nanofiltration membrane by applying the interfacial polymerization method as a way of manufacturing composite membranes. We have examined the effects of various preparation factors such as monomer concentration and composition, thermal curing condition, post treatment condition. In addition to preparation conditions, we also monitored the effects of operation conditions such as feed solution concentration and operation pressure on the permeation properties of the resulting nanofiltration membrane. We intended to increase the permeation rate of nanofiltration membrane by the enlargement of effective surface area using additives during interfacial polymerization step. With increasing the monomer concentration, membrane permeation rate are decreased with maintaining almost constant rejection. With respect to curing condition, with increasing the curing temperature both permeation rate and rejection are decreased. With increasing the ratio of MPD in amino monomer composition, permeation rate decreased drastically with high rejection. With increasing the feed solution concentration, both permeation rate and rejection decreased. Both permeation rates and rejection increased with increasing the operating pressure. Nanofiltration membrane have higher surface roughness with increasing additive concentration in the case of using MPD contained amine composition than using piperazine alone. Permeation rates are much lower than the nanofiltration membrane prepared by piperazine.
