  • The oxidative modification of low density lipoprotein(LDL) has been implicated in the development of atherosclerosis . Oxidized LDL(oxLDL) are found in macrophage foam cell , and it can induce an macrophage proliferation in atherosclerotic plaque. In this study, we investigated the hypothesis that Tokhwalkisaengtang(TK) may reduce atherosclerosis by lowering the oxidizability of LDL, To achieve this goal, we examined the effect of TK on LDL oxidation, nitric oxide production in murine macrophage cell line , and the effect of TK on cupuric sulfate-induced cytotoxicity. LDH release, and macrophage activity TK inhibited the generation of oxLDL from native LDL in macrophage cell culture, and decreased the release of LDH from cupric sulfate-stimulated macrophage. In other experiments, TK activated macrophase cell, and increased the survival rate, and enhanced nitric oxide production in macrophage.

  • The role of added metal oxide in the adherence mechanism of low melting glass to several metal plates such as oxygen free high conducting copper, low carbon steel, chrominum galvanized on copper, and stainless steel was investigated. The metal oxide which added to glass were cupric oxide, ferric oxide, chromic oxide, and stainless steel oxide. The glass to that various metla oxide were added, sealed with several metal plates in the electric furnace at $650^{\circ}C$ for 5 minutes. The results as follows; 1) The interfacial reaction was promoted and strong chemical bonding with glass and metals by which the surface energy was decreased showed excellent sealing by addition of metal oxide. 2) When the interfacial reaction of glass and metals was promoted by addition of metal oxide found out that various adhernece mechanism were related to the sealing. 3) When the amount of metal oxide addition was 3-5% the excellent sealing was achieved.

  • This study aims at developing of textile design expressed not only Korean natural image but also modern sensibility using fabrics dyed by tie dyeing with various natural dyes. And it attempts to practicality of high value-added goods revived traditional beauty. With the aqueous extract of various natural dyes, i.e., indigo, amur cock tree, onion's peel, citrus peel, mugwort, gromwell, sappan wood silk fabrics dyed by tie dyeing. Also various color changes were examined by mordants, i.e., aluminium sulfate, cupric acetate mono hydrate, ferrous chloride. With these fabrics, I made works using the techniques of applique, mola, fabric's connection and weaving. I think the developed textile design gave expression to natural image of Korean nation.

  • We recently reported that a water extract of laurel or turmeric, 1,8-cineole enriched fractions, showed hypolipidemic activity in the zebrafish model. Therefore, the present study investigated the cineole's anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activities in lipoprotein metabolism in vitro and in vivo. Cineole had inhibitory effects on cupric ion-mediated oxidation of lipoproteins in general, while simultaneously enhancing ferric ion removal ability in high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Hypercholesterolemia was induced in zebrafish using cholesterol-feeding treatment, 4% cholesterol, for 3 weeks. After feeding with or without the addition of cineole, the results revealed that cineole possessed lipid-lowering and anti-inflammatory activities in hypercholesterolemic zebrafish. In addition, serum amyloid A and interleukin-6 levels were lowered and lipid accumulation was decreased in the liver. Conclusively, 1,8-cineole was found to have anti-oxidant activities in lipoprotein metabolism both in vitro and in vivo with simultaneous reduction of lipid accumulation in the liver of zebrafish.

  • In order to development of culture goods I made works with various color's silk fabrics dyed with water extract or methanol extract of plants. The Plants used for dyeing as dyeing material were indigo, safflower, amur cock tree, onion's Peel, citrus peel, mugwort, gromwell, sappan wood. Each of Plants were extracted by each of temperature and time. The mordants used for various color chanties are aluminium sulfate, cupric acetate mono hydrate, ferrous chloride. With fabrics of various color dyed like this I made works which give expression to an easy and natural image of the Korean nation of fabrics.

  • Nanomaterials, which ranges in size from 1 to 100 nm, have been used to create uqnique devices at the nanoscale level possessing novel physical and chemical functional properties. However, the toxicities of nanomaterials have not been fully tested and the risk of nanomaterials is emerging issues in these days. In this study, the cytotoxicity of copper nanoparticles was tested in cultured human bronchial epithelial cells. As a results, copper nanoparticles showed cytotoxicity similar with cupric ion and the apoptotic mechanisms of DNA fragmentation and caspase-3 activation were involved. Induction of heme oxygenase-1 and thioredoxin reductase by copper nanoparticles indicated that cytotoxicity of copper nanoparticles is likely to be mediated through oxidative stress.

  • Stoichiometry of hydrazine-bromate reaction has been studied in acid media of varying compositions, elucidating the effects of bromide and chloride ions in sulfuric acid, perchloric acid, hydrochloric acid, and hydrobromic acid at varying concentrations of hydrogen ion and cupric ion. The study shows that the number of red-ox equivalent consumed by one mole of hydrazine becomes practically 4.00 if the concentrations of bromide and hydrogen ions are kept higher than 0.1M and 6M, respectively. The presence of copper tends to reduce the bromate consumption by hydrazine in an irregular manner, but such an effect becomes unimportant if the concentrations of bromide and hydrogen ions are kept sufficiently high.

  • Activated Cu-Zn by the reaction of aqueous cupric sulfate and excess Zn showed the exceptional catalytic activity for the reduction of aromatic nitro compounds to the corresponding amino compounds in the presence of hydrazine monohydrate in ethanol. But, aliphatic nitro compounds were not reduced to the amino compounds.
