A Pilot Cross-Cultural Comparative Study on Users' Perception of the Webpage: With the Focus on Cognitive Style of Chinese and French

  • Based on Nisbett and his colleagues' theoretical model "Holistic" and "Analytic" which show the differences in cognitive style of Eastern Asian and Westerners, the author hypothesized that the differences in cognitive style of people from diverse cultural backgrounds may influence their perception and usage of webpage. An experiment was carried out and the Eye-gaze device was used to assist to explore the relationship. The results revealed the relationship between cognitive style and webpage design. different cognitive style results different viewing pattern on webpage. Chinese people are more likely to have a holistic view of the whole page first and then focus on detail, while French people tend to read the heading information first and then proceeding down the page. Chinese emphasized the background as well as the whole look and feel of the webpage more, while French noticed the independent contents and element designs more on the webpage.

  • As of today-half a century has passed after 1945, the liberation from Japanese imperialism-it's significant to introspect our culture. On the one hand our culture has succeeded due to the peculiar history, but on the other hand it hasn't. So to speak, it has gained in Quantity but lost in Quality. There are keen, international competition and exchange in the modern culture. So the Qualitive success of modern design depends on if it had an original character or not. According to Korean rapid industrialization, technological extence, and economic growth, the export has increased greatly, but package design hasn't been match for them. Korean expoters have been meeting with cutthroat competition in world market. Under these circumstances it's very important that we have a real understand and interest in our culture, we strengthen the competitive power of home products with good package design. This is our age of not home market but world market. We live in an age when design wins, so that we have to develop the good design native to Korea. Many designers have proposed their opinions with the characteristic designs, but it has been only a fragmentary and passive method. We must seek for the new method more positively. The effective and proper method resolves itself into the following four points. First, to understand Korean history and culture. Second, to have the exact grip of this economic situation. Third, to promote the national emotion. Fourth, in conclusion, to accord the package design with them. We cannot put off this task to overcome the cultural subordination, to place Korea on a firm cultural basis in the world, and to contribute to the cultural exchange of package design. A Study on Correlation of Multi-Cultural Social Distance with Immigrant upon Xenophobia in Korea Society

  • Purpose - This study investigated xenophobia that has been a serious social problem, and classified multi-cultural groups in Korea into married immigrant, foreign labor workers and foreign students studying in Korea to examine the effects of fixed idea on multi-cultural persons, multi-cultural education experience, multi-cultural sensitivity, good feeling on multi-cultural persons upon social distance with multi-cultural persons, and to find out counteractions and cultural capacity on the xenophobia. Research design, data, and methodology - The study classified multi-cultural persons into married women immigrant, foreign labor worker, and foreign students studying in Korea to examine the effects of their thoughts on cultural cognition. Self-administered questionnaire was used. The subject was college students in Gyeonggi, Gyeongnam and Chungcheong with industrial complexes, more married women immigrants and more foreign students studying in Korea. Results - As shown in the findings, Korean people had different emotion and preference on married immigrant or foreign students studying in Korea and foreign labor workers. Conclusions - This study investigated the effect of multi-cultural person's cultural distance upon xenophobia. Different preference to multi-cultural persons depending upon fixed idea might produce xenophobia, so that the government was demanded to establish various kinds of policies of lives to live life together with immigrant at government level.

  • 최근 인간의 감성에 반응하고, 감성을 유도하는 감성콘텐츠가 문화산업 분야에서 크게 주목을 받으면서 멀티미디어 콘텐츠가 유발하는 감성 추출에 초점이 모아지고 있다. 게다가 최근 멀티미디어 콘텐츠가 빠르고 방대하게 생산, 유통되는 흐름으로 볼 때 콘텐츠에서 유발하는 감성을 자동으로 추출하는 기법의 연구들이 주목받고 있다. 본 논문은 멀티미디어 콘텐츠의 소리 정보 중 특정 주파수대역의 볼륨 값을 활용하여 멀티미디어 콘텐츠 내의 감성지수를 추출하는 방법에 대해 연구하고자 한다. 이러한 연구는 동영상 콘텐츠의 감성지수를 자동으로 추출할 수 있도록 하며 추출된 정보를 활용하여 사용자의 현재 감성, 혹은 날씨 등과 같은 기타 요소에 맞추어 사용자에게 맞춤형 콘텐츠를 제공하는데 사용되어질 것이다.

얼굴 매력의 교차문화적 비교 (The cross-cultural comparison of facial attractiveness)

  • 한 시대나 사회의 얼굴매력에 대한 관점을 영화배우 등 인기연예인의 얼굴분석을 통해 알 수 있다는 가정 하에 물리적 특징에 기반 한 한국 및 외국 연예인 얼굴 의 교차 문화적 특징 및 추세를 알아보았다. 얼굴인상감성모형을 이용하여 각 연예인얼굴의 물리적 특징을 측정하고 얼굴유형을 분류하였다. 분석대상은 한국의 여자연예인 47명, 남자연예인 47명, 외국 여자연예인 116명과 남자연예인 87명으로 총 297명이었다. 교차문화적인 분석에서 나타난 한국과 외국의 남녀 연예인 얼굴의 공통적인 특징은 날카로운 인상이었다.

  • Korea is changing rapidly from a single-raced nation into a multi-national nation caused by the huge number of immigrants mostly from China, and Southeast Asian countries. Therefore, various social problems are expressed ostensibly, one of them is a difficulty suffered by children of the second generation of multi-cultural families who enroll to elementary schools in Korea. This should be solved urgently as it is predicted to be an unavoidable problem in future. Only by understanding and accepting mutual cultural differences will be the solution to various problems caused by multi-cultural society. This study aims to understand the differences of emotion about the spatial images. This study was target to Korean and Malaysian design students to perform vocabulary appraisals on the spatial images in school health rooms which used to perform various functions for education, counseling, treatment, etc. The emotional vocabularies used at the appraisal for emotion are based on IRI image languages, which were extracted by the experts, and frequency was progressed by the SPSS 12.0 application. The collected data will be compared and analyzed to ensure the reliability.

  • China's Yueyanglou(岳陽樓) cultural landscape and cultural landscape of Korea, respectively Yueyanglou(岳陽樓) investigated and the following results were extracted. First, multi-cultural personalities to ever Yueyanglou(岳陽樓) China's outstanding natural beauty around the emotion of his drawing on the literature and a new cultural landscape was formed. Their main feeling of the beauty of nature through his ash under adverse conditions up again in politics, which expresses the desire to advance. To this end, his outlook on life and also an attitude overhaul yeotboinda. This information formed the cultural landscape of Korea Yueyanglou(岳陽樓) not deviate from that has been investigated. Second, Korea is entirely China's 'sun' Lou Yueyanglou(岳陽樓) was a significant effect of cultural landscape. The beautiful landscapes of the Joseon Dynasty literati in the Joseon reported only in words and pictures they admired China's leading natural and cultural landscape and paste the name of the famous' sun Lou watch it was transformed into a cultural landscape. For this reason, the current remaining two 'sun' Lou, but probably the Joseon Dynasty, called the 'sun tower base and is estimated to be more common than now. In addition, in Hadong Yueyanglou(岳陽樓) near the sun 'Lou, China has also attached near the nomination could be an important clue.

  • 기존 심리학 연구에 의하면, 사람들이 본인과 유사한 대상에게 더 높은 수준의 도움을 제공하고자 하는 까닭은 본인과 유사한 내집단 구성원에게 더 높은 공감을 경험하기 때문이다. 본 연구는 이와 같은 도움의향에 있어서의 내집단 편향의 크기를 매개하는 공감의 효과를 세계시민주의 수준이 조절하는지를 검증하기 위하여 실시되었다. 본 연구에서 참가자들은 문화 유사성 수준이 각기 다른 국가 출신의 교환 학생들에 대한 설명을 읽고, 공감 수준과 도움의향, 세계시민주의 성향을 측정하는 문항에 응답하였다. 연구 결과, 도움을 필요로 하는 대상과의 문화 유사성과 도움의향의 관계를 공감이 매개한다는 사실이 확인되었으며, 문화 유사성과 공감의 매개 모형에 있어서의 세계시민주의의 조절효과가 지지되었다. 구체적으로, 세계시민주의 의식이 낮은 사람 참가자들은 대상과의 문화 유사성이 높을 때 더 높은 공감 수준을 보였지만, 세계시민주의 의식이 높은 참가자들은 대상과의 문화 유사성이 높고 낮음과 관계없이 도움이 필요한 대상에게 유사한 수준의 공감 수준을 보여주는 것으로 나타났다.

  • 본 연구는 미래로 나아갈수록 창의적 인재가 요구되는 사회에서 청소년의 창의성을 어떻게 발현시키고 발달시킬 것인가에 대한 건강한 정신건강과 문화예술교육의 함의를 시사하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 연구 방법은 한국교육개발원에서 제공하는 한국교육종단연구(KELS) 패널 데이터 자료를 부분 추출하여 SPSS 23.0 프로그램을 사용하여 정신건강과 창의성의 관계를 살펴보았고 정신건강과 창의성의 관계에서 문화활동참여 빈도, 문화예술활동 경험 각각의 매개효과를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 정신건강과 창의성의 관계는 유의미한 정적 관계로 나타났으며 부분매개효과를 확인했고 편안함, 즐거움, 행복함의 긍정적 정신건강과 문화예술교육, 문화예술활동이 청소년의 창의성에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다는 결과를 본 연구에서 검증하였다. 따라서 청소년의 창의성 발달을 위해 마음의 편안함, 즐거움, 행복함과 같은 심리·정서적 정신건강 증진이 우선 되어야 하며 촉진 수단의 매개로 문화예술활동에 참여하는 방법을 활용할 수 있으며 청소년 문화예술활동 경험의 활성화를 위한 지역사회와 교육 현장의 다양한 문화예술교육 프로그램 개발 및 제공은 미래 사회의 창의융합형 인재를 양성하기 위한 주요한 과제가 될 것이다.

Basic Emotions Elicited by Korean Affective Picture System Can be Differentiated by Autonomic Responses

  • Autonomic responses were analyzed in 323 college students exposed to visual stimulation with Korean Affective Picture System (KAPS). Cardiac, vascular and electrodermal variables were recorded during 30 sec of viewing affective pictures. The same slides intended to elicit basic emotions (fear, anger, surprise, disgust, sadness, happiness) were presented to subjects in 2 trials with different experimental context. The first time slides were shown without any instructions (passive viewing), while during the second with instruction to exert efforts to magnify experienced emotion induced by pictures (active viewing). The aim of the study was to differentiate autonomic manifestations of emotions elicited by KAPS stimulation and to identify the role of instructed emotional engagement on physiological response profiles. The obtained results demonstrated reproducibility of responses in both trials with different contexts. Pairwise comparison of physiological responses in emotion conditions revealed the most pronounced differentiation for "ear-anger" and "fear-sadness" pairs (in electrodermal and HR variability parameters). "Fear-surprise" pair was also well differentiable. The typical response profile for all emotions included HR acceleration (except happiness and surprise), an increase of electrodermal activity, and a decrease of pulse volume. Higher cardiovascular and electrodermal reactivity to fear observed in this study, e.g., as compared to data with IAPS as stimuli, can be explained by cultural relevance and higher effectiveness of KAPS as stimuli, can be explained by cultural relevance and higher effectiveness of KAPS in producing certain emotions such as fear in Koreans.
