Morphology Control of Single Crystalline Rutile TiO2 Nanowires

  • Nano-scaled metal oxides have been attractive materials for sensors, photocatalysis, and dye-sensitization for solar cells. We report the controlled synthesis and characterization of single crystalline $TiO_2$ nanowires via a catalyst-assisted vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) and vapor-solid (VS) growth mechanism during TiO powder evaporation. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) studies show that as grown $TiO_2$ materials are one-dimensional (1D) nano-structures with a single crystalline rutile phase. Also, energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy indicates the presence of both Ti and O with a Ti/O atomic ratio of 1 to 2. Various morphologies of single crystalline $TiO_2$ nano-structures are realized by controlling the growth temperature and flow rate of carrier gas. Large amount of reactant evaporated at high temperature and high flow rate is crucial to the morphology change of $TiO_2$ nanowire.

  • In this study, clinical data for emmetopia in young Koreans was taken in order to design the finite schematic eye, which had optical properties of real eyes including spherical aberration, astigmatism, field curvature and distortion. Furthermore, the crystalline lens with GRIN medium was optically analyzed, and the finite schematic eye with the GRIN crystalline lens was designed.

Screening Molecular Chaperones Similar to Small Heat Shock Proteins in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

  • To screen molecular chaperones similar to small heat shock proteins (sHsps), but without ${\alpha}$-crystalline domain, heat-stable proteins from Schizosaccharomyces pombe were analyzed by 2-dimensional electrophoresis and matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Sixteen proteins were identified, and four recombinant proteins, including cofilin, NTF2, pyridoxin biosynthesis protein (Snz1) and Wos2 that has an ${\alpha}$-crystalline domain, were purified. Among these proteins, only Snz1 showed the anti-aggregation activity against thermal denaturation of citrate synthase. However, pre-heating of NTF2 and Wos2 at $70^{\circ}C$ for 30 min, efficiently prevented thermal aggregation of citrate synthase. These results indicate that Snz1 and NTF2 possess molecular chaperone activity similar to sHsps, even though there is no ${\alpha}$-crystalline domain in their sequences.

  • LDPE pelet is distilled to make 0.5 Wt% solutions and fabricated as LDPE thin film by dropping the solution onto glass substrate, and then annealed the film to be crystalline. The structure is observed as crystalline regions and non-crystalline regions. The crystalline region is exposed at radiation and as the result, there appeared degradation at the total region of the crystal structure. It is considered therefore that radiation exposure at the crystal structure is badly effected on insulation property and lifetime of materials.

  • Low temperature synthesis of $LaNiO_3$ crystalline phase composited from mixtures of $La_2O_3$ and NiO via the ball mill and mechanochemical process were investigated. By the ball mill, 20% of $LaNiO_3$ crystalline phase was formed in the samples sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ due to the lack of reactivity of NiO. However, the mechanochemical process yielded about 93% of $LaNiO_3$ crystalline phase in room temperature.

  • The change of crystalline structure and mechanical properties of i-PP films which had before isothermally annealed at various temperature and times have been studied. The following results were abtain The crystallinity and crystallite size of the samples showed increasing above the annealing temperature of 13$0^{\circ}C$ and these are equilibrated after an annealing time of 30min. When the crystalline form was at annealling condition were below 13$0^{\circ}C$, 2min, subsequently achieving an $\alpha$, $\beta$ mixing form and at 13$0^{\circ}C$, 10min, the crystalline form entered an $\alpha$ form transition. It is achieved a typical $\alpha$ form at 15$0^{\circ}C$. The value of T'm was increasing until 13$0^{\circ}C$ but it was not founded at 15$0^{\circ}C$. The slopes which represented crystalline form in an Avrami plot differed from each other within the range of this experiment.

  • We have investigated the effects of crystalline activation on solid phase crystallization (SPC) of amorphous silicon (a-Si) thin films. Wet blasting and self ion implantation were employed as the activation treatments to induce macro or micro crystalline damages on deposited a-Si films. Low temperature and larger grain crystallization were obtained by the applied two-step activation. High degree of crystallinity was also observed on both furnace and rapid SPC. crystalline activations showed the promotion of nucleation on the activated regions and the retardation of growth in an amorphous matrix in SPC. The observed behavior of two-step SPC was strongly dependent on the applied activation and annealing processes. It was also found that the diversified effects by macro and micro activations on the SPC were virtually diminished as the annealing temperature increased.

  • The atomic structure and magnetic properties of $LaCo_{13}$ amorphous alloy have been investigated and compared with those of its crystalline counterpart. It has been confirmed that the amorphous alloy is composed of the icosahedral clusters with a $NaZn_{13}$-type structure. The magnetic moment and the spin- wave stiffness constant obtained from the magnetic measurements in the amorphous state are larger than those in the crystalline state. The Curie temperature estimated from the reduced magnetization curve for the former is much higher than the value for the latter. The localized magnetic moment character in the amorphous state is stronger than that in the crystalline state.

  • Light elevated temperature induced degradation (LeTID) was noted as an issue in multi-crystalline silicon solar cells (MSSC) by Ram speck in 2012. In contrast to light induced degradation (LID), which has been researched in silicon solar cells for a long time, research about both LeTID and the mechanism of LeTID has been limited. In addition, research about LeTID in single-crystalline silicon solar cells (SSSC) is even more limited. In order to improve understanding of LeTID in SSSC with a passivated emitter rear contact (PERC) structure, we fabricated four group samples with boron and oxygen factors and evaluated the solar cell characteristics, such as the cell efficiency, $V_{oc}$, $I_{sc}$, fill factor (FF), LID, and LeTID. The trends of LID of the four group samples were similar to the trend of LeTID as a function of boron and oxygen.

Thermal Decomposition Energy of Liquid Crystalline Epoxy (열경화성 액정 에폭시 수지의 열분해 활성화에너지)

  • A liquid crystalline thermosetting epoxy was synthesizes with DGE-DHMS and 1-Methyl Imidazole. To investigate thermal stability, activation energies for thermal decomposition were calculated via Flynn-Wall-Ozawa method and Kissinger method with the data obtained from TGA analysis. The result showed that there were no differences in thermal decomposition behavior between liquid crystalline phases and isotropic phase and also the same thermal decomposition mechanism was applied to the entire process.
