  • In this paper, we proposed a robust watermark scheme for image based on SVD(Singular Value Transform) and Triplet. First, the original image is decomposed by using 3-level DWT, and then used the singular values changed for embedding and extracting of the watermark sequence in LL3 band. Since the matrix of singular values is not easily altered with various signal processing noises, the embedded watermark sequence has the ability to withstand various signal processing noise attacks. Nevertheless, this method does not guarantee geometric transformation(such as rotation, cropping, etc.) because the geometric transformation changes the matrix size. In this case, the watermark sequence cannot be extracted. To compensate for the above weaknesses, a method which uses the triplet for embedding a barcode image watermark in the middle of frequency band is proposed. In order to generate the barcode image watermark, the pattern of the watermark sequence embedded in a LL3 band is used. According to this method, the watermark information can be extracted from attacked images.

  • To estimate the possible amount of weed-crop competitions under the various cropping patterns of two rice cultivars of different type, comparisons between weedy check and weed-free plots in plant height, tillering number, and plant weight were investigated. Fluctuations in Importance Value, competition value, and net productivities were used to discuss the crop-weed competition, respectively. As a result, differences in dominant weed species, competitive crop variety, most effective cropping pattern, and crop yielding characteristics under the different weed competitions were investigated, respectively.

  • Scanning electron micrography and Transmission electron micrography studies were performed on the surfaces of stem(coleoptiles) of rice and barnyardgrass under various cropping patterns at 5 days after seeding or transplanting. Stem surfaces of rice under dry condition possessed rodlet-like epicuticular waxes, trichomes, stomata and cork cell layer in both broadcast and drilled rice while barnyardgrass had only thread-like epicuticular waxes, but trichomes, stomata and cork cell layers were not found. However, rice under water condition has no rodlet-like waxes, stomata and cork cells, and barnyardgrass was similar to that under dry condition. On the other hand, those on stems of 8-day and 25-day transplanted rice were well arranged and developed compared with those of direct seeded rice. Electron micrography showed significant difference in thickness of outer epidermal cell walls of rice and barnyardgrass under dry, water and transplanting condition. Thickness of outer epidermal cell was greater in transplanted rice, dry direct seeded rice, water-direct seeded rice and barnyardgrass in descending order.

  • This study was performed to determine the relative quality of mungbeans harvested in bulk after applying a labor-saving cultivation (LSC) method, compared to mungbeans harvested three different times under the conventional cultivation condition. There was no significant difference in starch, crude protein, and vitexin or isovitexin content of seed according to the cropping system or harvest time. The mungbeans grown under the LSC method had the highest crude fat content, followed by mungbeans from the third-, the second- and the first-harvest mungbeans under the conventional cultivation. No significant difference was found in the composite ratio of saturated fatty acids to unsaturated fatty acids according to cropping system or harvest time. The second-harvest mungbeans grown under the conventional cultivation condition had 17 different types of fatty acids, while the third-harvest mungbeans grown under the conventional cultivation and those grown under the LSC condition had the fewest types of fatty acids with 12. Of the major saturated fatty acids, palmitic acid and arachidonic acid had the highest composite ratio in the first conventional cultivation followed by the second, the third and the LSC. However, stearic acid showed the opposite tendency. Of the major unsaturated fatty acids, linoleic acid had the highest composite ratio in the first conventional cultivation, followed by the second and third conventional cultivation and the LSC. Amylogram characteristics of the mungbeans were significantly different according to cropping system and harvest times. The mungbeans harvested after the first conventional cultivation had significantly higher pasting temperature, peak viscosity, holding strength viscosity, final viscosity and breakdown, while mungbeans harvested after the third conventional cultivation had significantly higher setback viscosity. In contrast, the mungbeans harvested under the LSC methods had a significantly lower amylogram value. When harvest rate, color values and amino acid content of sprout were measured, mungbeans grown under the LSC conditions had a low harvest rate of sprout, but had Hunter's color values and amino acid content of sprout similar to those of mungbeans grown under the conventional cultivation condition.

  • In this paper, we Propose a method using the Tikhonov-Miller process to improve the robustness of watermarking under various attacks. A visually recognizable pattern watermark is embedded in the LH2, HL2 and HH2 subband of wavelet transformed domain using threshold and besides watermark is embeded by utilizing HVS(Human Visual System) feature. The pattern watermark was interlaced after random Permutation for a security and an extraction rate. To demonstrate the improvement of robustness and similarity of the proposed method, we applied some basic algorithm of image processing such as scaling, filtering, cropping, histogram equalizing and lossy compression(JPEG, gif). As a result of experiment, the proposed method was able to embed robust watermark invisibility and extract with an excellent normalized correlation of watermark under various attacks.

  • This study explored the effect of rainfall pattern and soil characteristics on water management in rice paddy fields, using a soil water balance model, BUDGET. In two sites with different soil textural group, coarse loamy soil (Gangseo series) and fine soil (Hwadong series), respectively, we have monitored daily decrease of water depth, percolation rate, and groundwater table. The observed evapotranspiration (ET) was obtained from differences between water depth decrease and percolation rate. The root mean square difference values between observed and BUDGET-estimated ET ranged between 10% and 20% of the average observed ET. This is comparable to the measurement uncertainty, suggesting that the BUDGET model can provide reliable ET estimation for rice fields. In BUDGET model of this study, irrigation requirement was determined as minimum water need for maintaining water-saturated soil surface, assuming 100 mm of bund height and no lateral loss of water. The model results showed different water balance and irrigation requirement with the different soil profile and indicated that minimum percolation rate by plow pan could determine the irrigation requirement of rice paddy field. For the condition of different rainfall distribution, the results presented different irrigation period and amounts, representing the importance of securing water for irrigation against different rainfall pattern.

  • The Organic agricultural techinques were investigated through the observations made for 3 years of the actual conditions of a farmer who has been practicing organic agriculture over 21 years. The farmer was a member of the Ichijima-cho Organic Agriculture Association. The Farmer had not performed much of the organic agricultural techinques at the beginning of his farming history. However, he has gradually developed techniques upon the experiences with trial and error. The notable characteristic of his basic organic agriculture was the utilization of a suitable organic fertilizer to make the soil fertile. Crop damages by diseases and insect pests were prevented through a fertile soil, raising of good seedlings, adoption of tolerant varieties and planting at a wide spacing and consequently considering not to use chemical pesticides. Introduction of power weeder for weed control and paddy-upland crop rotation reduced the cost of production for farming. The crop pattern and method of land us such as mix cropping, crop rotation and conversion of paddy field-upland fieldd were appeared to be very important in organic agriculture. The organic agricultural techniques get systematized upon the adaptation the regional ecology and the development of skills of the farmer. The most important point to achieve the success in organic agriculture system is not only by the development of the technical matters but also by the building of healthy relation and understandings between producers and consumers.

  • The growth characteristics and yield per unit area of two cultivation systems of forage, corn (Zea mays L.) monoculture and corn-cowpea (Vigna sinesis King) inter-cropping were compared and obtained follow results. 1. The two cultivation systems were not significantly different in leaf length, leaf width and length of internode with harvesting time. 2. The weight of stalk and leaves of a plant were decreased with maturity, while weight of ear was markedly increased. The patterns of relative ratio of each components was essentially same in each cultivation system. In corn monocrop., the percentages of stalk, leaf and ear at final harvesting stage were 22.9, 13.7 and 63.4, respectively. 3. Dry matter yield per unit area (33kgIlOa) of intercropped corn at yellow stage was similar to that of monocropped corn ( l,482.8kg/ 10a vs 1 ,SO8.9kg/ 10a). At ripe stage, however, the DM yield of intercrop. was higher than that of monocrop. (1,810.4kg/lOa vs 1,660.4 kg/ 1 Oa). 4. The same pattern was observed in organic matter yield.

  • In this paper, the real scenario of water situation (e.g. water management, water availability and flooding) in an irrigated rice cultivation area in Suphanburi Province, Central-West Thailand is discussed together with the NDVI time series data. The result shown is derived by our classifier named 'Peak Detector Algorithm (PDA)'. The method discriminated 5 classes in terms of irrigation activities and cropping intensities, namely, Non-irrigated, Poorly irrigated - 1 crop/year, Irrigated - 2 crops/year, Irrigated - 3 crops/year and Others (no cultivation happens in a year or other land covers). The overall accuracy of all classified results (1999-2001) is around $77\%$ against independent ground truth data (general activities or function of an area). In the classified results, spatial and temporal inconsistency appeared significantly in the Western and Southern areas of Suphanburi. The inconsistency resulted mainly by anomaly of rainfall pattern in 1999 and their temporal irrigation activity. The algorithm however, was proved that it could detect actual change of irrigation status in a year.

  • As agricultural machinery has become larger and tillage practices have changed in recent decades, compaction as a result of wheel traffic and tillage has caused increasing concern. If strategies to manage compaction, such as deep tillage, could be applied only where needed, economic and environmental benefits would result. For such site-specific compaction management to occur, compacted areas within fields must be efficiently sensed and mapped. We previously developed an on-the-go soil strength profile sensor (SSPS) for this purpose. The SSPS measures within-field variability in soil strength at five soil depths up to 50 cm. Determining the variability structure of SSPS data is needed for site-specific field management since the variability structure determines the required intensity of data collection and is related to the delineation of compaction management zones. In this paper, soil bin data were analyzed by a spectral analysis technique to determine the variability structure of the SSPS data, and to investigate causes and implications of this variability. In the soil bin, we observed a repeating pattern due to soil fracture with an approximate 12- to 19-cm period, especially at the 10-cm depth, possibly due to cyclic development of soil fracture on this interval. These findings will facilitate interpretation of soil strength data and enhance application of the SSPS.
