Investigation of passive flow control on the bluff body with moving-belt experiment

  • The passive control methods such as horizontal and vertical fences on the lower surface of the bluff body were applied to suppress the vortex shedding and enhance the aerodynamic stability of flow. For investigating the effects of the passive control methods, wind tunnel experiments on the unsteady flow field around a bluff body near a moving ground were performed. The boundary layer and velocity profiles were measured by the Hot Wire Anemometer (HWA) system and the vortex shedding patterns and flow structures in a wake region were visualized via the Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) system. Also, it is a measuring on moving ground condition that the experimental values of the critical gap distances, Strouhal numbers and aerodynamic force FFT analyses. Through the experiments, we found that the momentum supply due to moving ground caused the vortex shedding at the lower critical gap distance rather than that of fixed ground. The horizontal and vertical fences increase the critical gap distance and it can suppress the vortex shedding. Consequently, the stability characteristics of the bluff body near a moving ground could be effectively enhanced by the simple passive control such as the vertical fences.

  • 본 연구에서는 분포 종동력을 받는 외팔 송수관의 안정성에 대하여 연구하였다. 지배 운동 방정식은 확장 해밀턴의 원리에 의해 유도 되었으며, 유한 요소법에 의해 수치해석이 이루어 졌다. 다양한 질량비에 대하여 분포 종동력 값에 따른 임계 유속 값을 결정하였다. 임계 유속에서의 플러터 모드 형상의 차수를 결정하기 위하여 1/12의 주기로 그려, 질량비에 따른 임계 유속의 그래프에 있어서 플러터가 발생하는 고유치 분기의 차수와 함께 명기하였다. 또한 내부감쇠가 시스템의 안정성에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다.

밀가루의 열분해 특성과 활성화 에너지에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Activation Energy and Characteristics of the Heat Decomposition of Flour)

  • After examining the characteristics of the heat decomposition of the 80~120mesh flour using the Mini cup pressure vessel test and determining the apparent activation energy in a spontaneous combustion, the conclusion is as follows. The heat decomposition of flour occurs at around $100^{\circ}C$ and the peak for the maximum rise in pressure appears at around $290^{\circ}C$. The decomposition pressure against various temperature in the vessel shows the maximum value of $4.7kg/cm^2$ approximately at $440^{\circ}C$. When the thickness of the sample is 3cm, the maximum temperature and the critical temperature of ignition are $398^{\circ}C$ and $204.5^{\circ}C$, respectively; the critical temperature is $194.5^{\circ}C$ when the thickness of the sample is 5cm, and $182.5^{\circ}C$ when the sample is 7cm. In addition, the apparent velocity calculated using the method of least squares is 35.0407Kcal/mol.

  • Superconducting flux flow transistor (SFFT) is based on a control of the Abrikosov vortex flowing along a channel. The induced voltage by moving of the Abrikosov vortex in an SFFT is greatly affected by the thickness, the width, and the length of channel. In order to fabricate a reproducible channel in the SFFT, we studied the variation of the critical characteristics of ${YBa}_2{Cu}_3{O}_7-\delta(YBCO)$ thin films with the etching time using ICP (Inductively coupled plasma) system. From the simulation, it was certified that the vortex velocity was increased in a low pinning energy at channel width 0,5 mm. The surfaces of YBCO thin film were etched by ICP etching system. We observed the etched channel surfaces by AFM (Atomic Force Microscope) and measured the critical current density with etching time. As a measured results, the etching thickness of channel should be optimized to fabricated a flux flow transistor with specified characteristics.

Numerical investigations on the effect of mean incident wind on flutter onset of bridge deck sections

  • The effect of mean angle of wind attack on the flutter critical wind speed of two generic bridge deck cross-sections, viz, one closed box type streamlined section (deck-1) and closed box trapezoidal bluff type section with extended flanges/overhangs (deck-2) type of section have been studied using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) based forced vibration simulation method. Owing to the importance of the effect of the amplitude of forcing oscillation on the flutter onset, its effect on the flutter derivatives and flutter onset have been studied, especially at non-zero mean angles of wind attack. The flutter derivatives obtained have been used to evaluate flutter critical wind speeds and flutter index of the deck sections at non-zero mean angles of wind attack studied and the same have been validated with those based on experimental results reported in literature. The value of amplitude of forcing oscillation in torsional degree of freedom for CFD based simulations is suggested to be in the range of 0.5° to 2°, especially for bluff bridge deck sections. Early onset of flutter from numerical simulations, thereby conservative estimate of occurrence of instability has been observed from numerical simulations in case of bluff bridge deck section. The study aids in gaining confidence and the extent of applicability of CFD during early stages of bridge design, especially towards carrying out studies on mean incident wind effects.

  • In this study, we analysed tree surface flow by using the experimental and numerical method with a different surfactant concentration. We compared numerical solution with experimental results for one-dimensional model. The result shows that in general the tree surface velocity can well be reproduced by the one-dimensional model for various surfactant concentration.

가로교통용량 산정기법에 관한 연구 (A Study on Estimating Techniques of Road Traffic Capacity)

  • This study is to find the proper method of estimating urban road traffic capacity. To estimate road traffic capacity, the following methods are chosen ; 1) crossing point of Q-V and S-V, 2) critical velocity and density of Q-V-K model, 3) V-K model with density parameter. The density estimated through S-V relation is 174 veh./km. The methods used in this paper yields more stable values with 2286 veh./h/ in average. The estimated average capacity by three methods are 2272 veh./h. in multilane road. 2411 veh./h in three lane road and 2185 veh./h. in two lane road.

가솔린 화재의 소화를 위한 수분무의 특성 (Characteristics of Water Spray for Extinguishment of Gasoline Pool Fire)

  • This study discribes characteristics of water spray for extinguishment of gasoline pool fire. Experiments are carried out for the gasoline pool fire in a small tank with a diameter of 150mm and a height of 8mm. Droplet size, spray pressure, amount of water which reaches the flame base and velocity of water spray are measured to find extinguishment conditions and air entrainment due to the water spray is visualized. Critical conditions of water spray for extinguishment of gasoline pool fire is quantitatively shown.

A Guideline for Motion-Image-Quality Improvement of LCD-TVs

  • Motion-image-quality of LCD-TVs is discussed by dynamic spatial frequency response. Smaller temporal aperture or higher frame rate can improve dynamic response, but an increase of motion velocity easily cancels the improvement. A guideline for deciding the desirable temporal aperture and frame rate of LCD-TVs is described, under the condition that camera and display have the same parameters. Two candidates of the desirable parameter sets will be (240 or 300 Hz, 50 to 100% aperture) and (120Hz, 25 to 50% aperture), from the viewpoint of "limit of acceptance" on motion-imagequality-deterioration for critical picture materials.

  • The importance of predicting concrete compressive strength of in concrete structures is gradually increasing in construction industry. The estimation of concrete compressive strength of is a critical factor of the construction schedule and quality control. This study was performed to examine the relationship between concrete compressive strength and stress wave velocity which was determined by the impact echo method and SASW method.
