  • With the results of calculation for natural frequencies, the forced reponses of coupled vibration of propulsion shafting were analysed by the modal analysis method. For the forced response analysis, axial exciting forces, axial damper/detuner, propeller exciting forces and damping coefficients were extensively investigated. As the conclusion of this study, some items are cleared as next. - The torsional amplitudes are not influenced by the radial excitation forces. - The axial vibrational amplitudes are influenced by the tangential exciting forces. An increase of amplitude is observed for the speed range in the neighbourhood of any torsional critical speed. - The coupling effect becomes larger if torsional and axial critical speed are closer together. - The axial exciting force of propeller is relatively strong, comparing with those of axial forces of cylinder gas pressure and oscillating inertia of reciprocating mechanism. Therefore, as a resume one can say, that- Torsional vibration calculation with the classical one dimension model is still valid. - The influence of torsional excitation at each crank upon the axial vibration is impotent, especially in the neighbourhood of a torsional critical speed. That means that the calculation of axial vibration with the classical one dimension model is insufficient in most of cases. - The torsional exciting torque of propeller can be neglected in most of cases. But, the axial exciting forces of propeller can not be neglected for calculating axial vibration of propulsion shafting.

  • Background: Healing of the tendon itself is not always related to successful clinical outcomes after rotator cuff repair. It was hypothesized that certain radiologic factors affecting clinical outcomes could exist in case of the retear after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR) and the radiologic factors could help predict clinical process. The purpose of this study was to identify the radiologic factors associated with clinical outcomes of the retear after ARCR. Methods: Between January 2012 and December 2019, among patients with sufficient footprint coverage for ARCR, 96 patients with Sugaya classification 4 or higher retear on follow-up magnetic resonance imaging were included. The association between clinical outcomes such as American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, Constant score and range of motion and radiologic variables such as initial tear dimension, retear dimension, variance of tear dimension, critical shoulder angle, acromial index, and acromiohumeral distance was analyzed. Results: Preoperatively, the ASES and Constant scores were 59.81±17.02 and 64.30±15.27, respectively. And at the last follow-up, they improved to 81.56±16.29 and 78.62±14.16, respectively (p<0.01 and p<0.01). In multiple linear regression analysis, the variance of the mediolateral dimension of tear had statistically significant association with the ASES and Constant scores (p<0.01 and p=0.01). Conclusions: In patients with the retear after ARCR, the variance in the mediolateral dimension of tear had significantly negative association with the clinical outcomes. This could be considered to be reference as relative criteria and needed more sample and mechanical study.

  • In the automatic transistor sizing with computer for optimizing delay and the chip area of CMOS digital circuits, conventionally either a mathematical method or a heuristic method has been used. In this paper, we present a new method of transistor sizing, a sort of combination of the above two methods, in which the mathematical method is used for sizing of critical paths and the heuristic method is used for desizing of non-critical paths. In order to reduce the overall problem dimension, a basic block called an extended stage is introduced which includes a basic stage, parallel transistors and complementary part. Optimization for multiple critical paths is formulated as a problem of area minimization subject to delay constraints and is solved by the augmented Lagrange multiplier method. The transistor sizes along non-critical paths are decreased successively without affecting the critical path delay times. The proposed scheme was successfully applied to several test circuits.

  • Let ($M^n$, g) be a compact oriented Riemannian manifold. It has been conjectured that every solution of the equation $z_g=D_gdf-{\Delta}_gfg-fr_g$ is an Einstein metric. In this article, we deal with the 3 dimensional case of the equation. In dimension 3, if the conjecture fails, there should be a stable minimal hypersurface in ($M^3$, g). We study some necessary conditions to guarantee that a stable minimal hypersurface exists in $M^3$.

  • The scaling behavior of random fractals and multifractals is investigated numerically on the seabottom depth in the seabottom topography. In the self-affine structure the critical length for the crossover can be found from the value of standard deviations for the seabottom depth. The generalized dimension and the spectrum in the multifractal structure are discussed numerically, as it is assumed that the seabottom depth is located on a two-dimensional square lattice. For this case, the fractal dimension D$_0$ is respectively calculated as 1.312476, 1.366726, and 1.372243 in our three regions, and our result is compared with other numerical calculations.

  • A series of numerical experiments are performed to examine the generation of inter-annual variations by an inertial current in an idealized semi-enclosed basin with dimension comparable to that of the East Sea. Model results indicate that the inter-annual variations dominate the kinetic energy spectrum with a peak around the time scales of 2-3 years. These variations are mostly due to the westward propagating meanders and large eddies induced by the instability of current, indicating their dependency on the eddy-resolving capacity of the model. They are generated in the interior of the basin but their energy is largely confined near the western boundary such that the east-west dimension of the basin cannot be considered as a critical factor as long as the basin covers enough western boundary region. Overall, this study suggests that the inter-annual variation observed in the East Sea is due to the meandering and large eddies induced by the instability of the current.

  • Let H be a Hilbert space which is the direct sum of five closed subspaces $X_0,\;X_1,\;X_2,\;X_3$ and $X_4$ with $X_1,\;X_2,\;X_3$ of finite dimension. Let J be a $C^{1,1}$ functional defined on H with J(0) = 0. We show the existence of at least four nontrivial critical points when the sublevels of J (the torus with three holes and sphere) link and the functional J satisfies sup-inf variational inequality on the linking subspaces, and the functional J satisfies $(P.S.)^*_c$ condition and $f|X_0{\otimes}X_4$ has no critical point with level c. For the proof of main theorem we use the nonsmooth version of the classical deformation lemma and the limit relative category theory.

  • In ancient times, architectural design was seen as a critical task in building technologies. Specifically, form, dimension and structural design are of significant. These aspects are associated with each other and to be emerged as a whole. Designing plan dimension was deemed to be the core of design technology due to its close relationship with module system. Thus, its evolution as well as development process typically represents and reflects the spirits and contents of design technologies in ancient China. In China, the materials regarding ancient architectural technology include Yingzaofashi(營造法式) of Song Dynasty and Gongchengzuofazeli(工程做法則例) of Qing Dynasty. They show many aspects concerning materials, structure, scale system and building. In Yingzaofashi, although the length of objects are decided by 'cai(材)' and 'fen(分)', there are no regulations on length, width and height of a building. However, in the construction of ancient buildings, the above mentioned basic scales are very important in both design and construction. The present paper attempts to discuss the significance, namely, the design principles of length, with and height of ancient chinese architecture.

  • The purpose of the paper is to examine the validity of social constructivism embodied in Shapin's case study of Boyle's air pump as a typical case study of the sociology of scientific knowledge. I shall argue that scientific activity has not only epistemic dimension but also non-epistemic dimension, and that social constructivism has put too much emphasis on non-epistemic social dimension such that it cannot provide any balanced understanding of scientific knowledge. I shall first examine the epistemic dimension of the debate between Boyle and Hobbes about air pump, then examine Shapin's view emphasizing epistemic one. Finally I consider some limits of social constructivism shown in Shapin's view.
