In the previous study (Jee & Park, 2013), family activities, which can be utilized to improve scientific creativity at home have been developed and used. In that study, 12 families fell into two groups, received 6 programs for scientific creativity respectively, and conducted the program for six weeks. As consequences, various positive responses from participants have been received. This survey has been conducted to test whether scientific creativity could be improved quantitatively through family activity at home, and to examine parents' recognition of the feasibility of teaching creativity as well. To answer this, a scientific creativity test consisting of three items in the pre- and post-test respectively have been developed and carried out. The test includes various elements of scientific creativity defined by Park (2011). For obtaining parents' responses, a questionnaire has been developed and applied. The results reveal that parents have changed their thought to 'everyone can conduct scientific creativity activity at home if effective programs are provided and they learn the basic skills to do it.' And, through the scientific creativity test, the experimental group has indicated an improvement in scientific creativity with statistical significance and a large effect size. Therefore, we suggest that family activity for scientific creativity can be applied to family activity in various situations such as camp, leasure or science museum.
The purpose of this study was to find out the effect of the science lesson emphasized creativity and character on the creativity and science related attitudes of elementary school students. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of SW education using robots on Computational Thinking, Creativity, Academic Interest and Collaborative skill. In order to achieve the purpose, SW education using robots was conducted to 88 students in 5th grade in Seoul. After collecting data, we examined mean differences using matched pair t-test. The results indicated that the SW education using robots is associated with significant improvements in Computational Thinking, Creativity and Academic Interest while Collaborative skill is not associated with significant improvement. This research investigated the effects of the SW education using robots and expanded the understanding of the SW education using robots. In addition, this study provides several implications with regard to suggesting the direction to go further of SW education using robots.
In this study, we will develope and apply the education program for mathematical creativity, with the open-ended problems about development figure. The purpose of this study is to categorize the elements of the mathematical creativity in consideration of the real class, and is to design a education program that reflects this. To do this, from 2006 through 2014, by targeting 205 gifted students in the sixth grade until eighth grade of Busan, Gyeongnam, Gyeongbuk were carried out in class. Also in this study, we will examine the process and the results of its application. As a result, students' outcomes and behavioral reactions brought about a qualitative development of the program, and students became aware of the participants in the development of the program. These results suggest the aim of developing a education program for mathematical creativity, as well as the effectiveness of this education program.
Creativity is always important in science gifted education. There are many research results about enhancing the creativity. One of the ways of enhancing students scientific' creativity is to let them think and research like scientists so that they can follow how scientists find problems and solve them. So in this study, scientific creative elements were extracted from the Pauling's detailed examples of research process by using many documents. Abductive reasoning, paradox, changing the perspective, modeling, simplifying, converging thinking, diverging thinking, and metaphorical thinking are thinking methods that were extracted from the Pauling's research process. Repeated experiment, co-experiment, using both theories and experiments, and social obligation as a scientist are research methods. Scientific creative elements that were extracted suggest some direction that have more scientific creativity, more ability to find problems, and more ability to form theories in science education or in science gifted education.
This study examined the beneficial effects of the science experiment program for Low-Income Family Children (LIFC) on their science attitude, self-esteem, self-competence, and creativity. The study involved 432 elementary school children of Low-Income Family who were divided two groups as an experimental group with 228 and a control group with 204. The experimental group was given by the science experimental program, whereas the control group was given by ordinary education programs for LIFC, such as supplementary education or after school care. The data about science attitude, creativity, self-esteem, and self-competence of two group children's were collected and analyzed by four kinds of tests on each domain before and after implementing the science experiment program. During the period of the science experiment program, the children who were given the program were observed and reported by the program lecturers and the teachers, who worked at the after school care. The results are as follows; First, there was statistically significant increase on the average points of the experimental group on the three domains except self-esteem from the intra-group analysis. Second, there was also statistically significance between the scores of two groups on the creativity, self-esteem, self-competence from the inter-group analysis. Third, it was reported that the children who were experienced the program were changed positive on their personality and school learning.

Creative thinking alone can not lead to scientific creativity. Scientific knowledge and scientific inquiry skills are needed for scientific creativity. Focused only on cognitive aspect, I suggested a cognitive model of scientific creativity (CMSC) consisting of 3 components: thinking for scientific creativity, scientific knowledge contents, and scientific inquiry skills. Recently, many researchers have emphasized the various thinking for creativity as well as divergent thinking. Therefore, I suggested three types of creative thinking - divergent thinking, convergent thinking, and associational thinking - and discussed its rationale. Based on this model, an example of activity material for the scientific creativity was suggested. In the further research, based on CMSC, various activity types related to scientific creativity and concrete learning materials for scientific creativity will be developed.
This study purposed to examine the effects of integrated activities based on wordless picture books on increase in children's creativity. As for the subject of this study, 20 five-year old children(9 boys and 11 girls), who go to D Kindergarten in Ulsan-si, were selected as a experimental group and 20 five-year old children(8 boys and 12 girls) as comparative group, who attend B Kindergarten in Ulsan-si. For this study, all children of the groups were taken pre-test. After this experiment, difference in creativity of two groups was examined through post-test. The total of 42 sessions were conducted for 14 weeks from the first week of April to the second week of July, 2005. The test tool for this study was Creativity Scale developed by Kim Sang-yun (2003). To verify study questions, the mean of the two groups and the standard deviation were calculated and independent-sample t-test was carried out using SPSS WIN 11.5. The results of this study were as the following: First, integrated activities based on wordless picture books showed statistically significant difference in children's creativity between the experimental group and the comparative one(p<.001), which suggested that the activities affected increase in children's creativity in general. Second, integrated activities centering around wordless picture books indicated statistically significant difference in fluency(p<.05), flexibility(p<.01) and originality(p<.001), sub-factors of children's creativity, between the experimental group and the comparative one. This result revealed that these activities were effective. Third, integrated activities based on wordless picture books did not show significant difference in elaboration, a sub-factor of children's creativity, between the two groups. As the result of this study, integrated activities based on wordless picture books had positive effects on increase in children's creativity.
The creative thinking and emotional trainings are very important educational issues in the knowledge-information-based future society. Recently STEAM education is suggested as one of the educational solutions to prepare the future society. The aims of this study are to develop STEAM teaching-learning program and analyze its effects on the creativity and emotional intelligence of science-gifted and general students in elementary school. Four different subject matters based on the 2007-revised curriculum were selected to construct the brain-based STEAM teaching-learning program consisting of 12 class hours. The program was applied to 50 elementary general students and 19 science-gifted elementary students. The findings of this research are as follows. The brain-based STEAM programs is effective to improve the creativity and emotional intelligence of science-gifted and general elementary students after class. The creativity of two groups was not statistically different before the class. However after class, the creativity of gifted-science students is significantly higher than that of general students. The emotional intelligence of gifted-science students was higher than that of general students before the class. Therefore in oder to analyze the different effects of the program on two groups in emotional intelligence, the test results of both group of students were analyzed by ANCOVA after class. This analysis also showed that the program is more effective in gifted-science students to improve the emotional intelligence compared to general students.
