Success Story: How Storytelling Contributes to BTS's Brand

  • Good storytelling is at the heart of BTS as both a brand and a band. Modern brands know that story is no longer an option, but a requirement for keeping audiences engaged. With their consistent and creative reliance on story, BTS has transformed the K-Pop landscape, providing a framework for others in the industry that relies on open-structure narratives, sincerity, and active audience engagement, among other components. To investigate BTS's storytelling strategies, this article breaks down how stories permeate BTS's content, from music and videos to the Bangtan Universe and documentary films. The importance of transmedia storytelling and participatory audiences is also examined. The analysis resulted in a proposed framework that suggests the following components: 1) story as central to the brand; 2) authenticity and sincerity; 3) idol participation in creative output; 4) use of transmedia storytelling and story gaps; 5) intertextuality and cohesion; 6) opportunities for audience engagement; and 7) dedicated creative staff. Utilizing this framework can help K-Pop groups elevate their brands, better use storytelling elements, and gain larger, more engaged audiences.

  • Objective: The goal of this study is to design a creative tutoring service, which helps children gain confidence and creativity through learning activities. Background: Nowadays most kids are growing up in a very competitive environment under their parents' zeal for education. A stressful environment can deter a child from the confident undertaking of challenges, leading to depression, anxiety, and feelings of inadequacy. Art therapy helps children work through these issues, however the process led by instructors or parents, and kids still feel anxious studying adults' face to read their thought. Method: To help children address challenges, a creative tutoring service application can provide images with certain tasks instead of asking them to fill in blank areas. The tasks asked by the service system are 1) to visualize children's own experience utilizing visually associated images from given images and 2) to create an illustrated story modifying and re-composing given images. Another task is to learn basic math and words with numbers and alphabets in customized colors. By completing each task children collect awards, which allow them graduate to higher levels of challenges. The outcomes from the tasks are sent to the main server system and reviewed by analysts. Those results are sent to children's parents as a text message on smart phone. Results: Visual implication using images inspires children to make creative stories based on their own experience. Also, children can find their own patterns of reaching answers by using synaesthetic imagery through repetitive practices of creative thinking tasks. Conclusion: Understanding how they feel about doing tasks in certain environments and assessing them in varied situations should be carefully considered when designers approach service design for kids. By focusing on how to tutor children in creative ways, as opposed to focusing on the expected outcome, creative service applications can be designed to reduce children's stress and encourage self expression. Children are predicted to gain confidence through using the service without the concern of comparison by others. Application: The creative tutoring service needs to be developed and tested by varying types of children.

  • Storytelling techniques have been using for utilizing in various fields such as education, marketing and so on. In creative content sector, especially, the amount of creating the a newly story content from existing oral tales which are short and quite hard to understand the context has been increased. However, there are some limitations for creating the ideas of the story according to the expansion of the stories while the approach for new adaptation of existing stories is quite challenging. In this paper, therefore, we described the preliminary steps of text analysis and object extraction method for story development which can be applied to the storytelling authoring supported software.

  • In a rapidly changing fashion design world, creative ideas are always required. Knowledge has been created as an art, exhibiting a new imagination that surpasses reality, while being visualized from the past. The purpose of this study is to derive types of visualization of knowledge for continuous creation of fashion design. The study consists of literature and empirical studies. ATTA, a creativity evaluation method made by Torrance applied for analyzing of Gucci fashion design collections from 2016-2017. Creativity of the Gucci collection by ATTA evaluation items are that first, a vivid idea was revealed through collection history, myths and animal and plants, second, conceptual incongruity is in the composition of the garment, third, provocative questions are the symbolism of the meaning of the text, fourth, different perspectives derive a new formative beauty through the synthesis of twisted elements, fifth, abstraction is a symbolic expression of animals and plants, sixth, synthesis is a mixture of various materials and techniques by plural inspiration, seventh, context, it is developed as a design accompanied by stories of history and myth and eighth, fantasy is fictitious animals and animals and detail. In addition, formativeness of fashion design by visualization of this knowledge was extracted with contamination, symbolism, enjoyment and fabrication. Visualization of the knowledge is expected to be used as a strategy to attract ongoing ideas for creative fashion designs.

  • Alternate pictures that are proven to be equivalent are in high demand to assess creative thinking and language skills. This study aimed to investigate the equivalence of three pictures ('Dog owners,' 'Lost Dog,' and 'Overslept') recently developed for use in a creative writing task. Middle school students (N=183) wrote a story in English based on one of the three prompts distributed randomly. Four writing features (fluency, syntactic complexity, lexical diversity, and temporality) were analyzed with Coh-Metrix and MANCOVA. The three prompts were largely equivalent in their capacity to detect differences among writers in all the features of writing. The difficulty levels of the three prompts, however, were not necessarily the same. Two prompts, Dog Owners and Lost Dog, were verified as equivalent prompts, and therefore, they are recommended as alternate forms to assess creative language skills in repeated measurements. The Overslept prompt had greater facility in eliciting diverse words and more temporal connectives in composing stories. The differential difficulty shown among the prompts suggests that the validity of using different picture versions in repeated assessment remains questionable unless those versions undergo equivalence verification.

  • Genres and actions of stories can be used to classify stories, and used effectively as well for visualizing story properties. This paper proposes a Genre-Action coordinate system for visualizing story property data in 2-dimension that has similarities between the genre and action items along the axes, i.e. a property of spatial continuum. With the proposed Genre-Action coordinate system we found that the genre and action items in the axes are arranged according to their similarities and we were able to achieve a spatially meaningful visualization of story properties where the related data form clusters.

  • In cinema, a montage can be defined as temporalization. In reverse, it is evident that this method results in the spatialization of time. In movies, you are free to go to the past or future, see separated times together, and separate the same time into different ones. Therefore, in one aspect, time is turned into space, and on the other hand, space is turned into time. In conclusion, space in cinema inevitably expresses time. The movie the creative arrangement of time and space played a big role in making a movie that simply overlaps a story from high school to the present attract over seven million audiences. Director Kang Hyung-cheol used his unique film production language to transform boring into cheerfulness and stale to delight, and he helped the audience heal their wounds from their youth. He said, "The most important aspect of movie production is creating visual stories, and the background of such visual story is time and space." This paper aims at analyzing the creative time and space production of the director in the film .

  • This essay is a landscape of core values and relevant evidences about Creative Leadership in order to make sketches of Korean-style leadership framework. Glancing through this work, you can smell the distinctions of Korea creative leaders, particularly, in the aspects of procommunity pragmatism and ordinary innovation. Most Korea creative leaders were social mentors and masters who had enlarged their influences from the individual domain to social area in all the dimensions of human life. At the individual stage, the Creative Leadership suggests 'Jungki(正己)' as a core value of themselves, which is materialized as such competencies as self-assertiveness, observation and experimentation, and strong inquiry. Because most of them were technical masters dealing with new methodology and new knowledge including alchemy, medicine and weapons, the creative leaders show us very unique core values and competencies in the life sequences of the individuation, relationship, organization and community unlike other Korean-style leaderships and global practices. You can taste and compare these things: 'Kihyulsangtong(氣血相通)' as a core value and respect- for- others, style analysis, persuasion as core competencies in the stage of relationship, nextly, 'Suhshi(授時) & Jungeum(正音)' as a core value and coordination and adjustment, teamwork as core competencies in the stage of organization, finally, 'Hunmin(訓民) & Hwalin(活人)' as a core value and vision-building, social benefiting, ordinary innovation as core competencies in the stage of community. Analysis of Conceptions of Earth System Cycles as Perceived by College Students (대학생들이 인식하는 지구계 순환의 구성 개념 분석)

  • The purpose of this paper is to identify college students' conceptions of the earth system cycles as learners of earth science education (ESE) and draw educational implications. An eight-week creative story writing project was held with 62 non-science students taking a general course on earth science. Their creative stories were categorized by analyzing the conceptions and types of cycle with a story mapping technique. The cycle conceptions of earth systems were expressed diversely into 32; most of the cycle types were circular and complex, while the others were branch-shaped and linear types that fail to complete the cycles. College students' conceptions of the earth system cycles is biased toward natural-abiotic systems; less than 30% of them are shown to be aware of all three categories: natural-abiotic, natural-biotic, and human systems. It is essential to diversify the content of education on earth system cycles and help learners develop systematic methods of thinking so that they will be able to recognize the impacts of feedback from human activities through ESE.
