  • Since L.A. Zadeh introduced the theory of fuzzy sets in 1965, E.H. Mamdani applied the theory to the steam engine control in 1974. Since then, scientists have shown a great deal of interests in its application to practical problems and the possibility of the application of the theory a more complicate system has been increasing greatly. In the fuzzy control, the qualitative knowledge and intuition that the operators of a system has acquired through their experience can be logically described by the Linguistic Control Rule(LCR). The algorithm of th control is made of the LCR, and th control of an object is performed by processing this algorithm implementing a computer. in this thesis, the fuzzy controller of the ship's steering system is devided into two systems, namely FC1 and FC2, according to their control function. FC1 is for the course keeping steering, wheress FC2 is for the altering of s ship's course. The characteristics of the control system were investigated through the digital computer simulation and the results were compared with those of the conventional steering system. It was found that the fuzzy control was more efficient than the conventional auto pilot system.

  • We introduce an introductory engineering education course for engineering majors and non-engineering majors. This course does not require any previous knowledge and experience on engineering. It requires strong curiosities and imaginations on current and future society we live in, where technology is inseparable ingredient. Course encourages attendees to explore fundamental issues of engineering: what is proper technology and what are proper ways of exercising engineering, issues dealt in soft engineering. Since course topics cover many aspects of technology, traditional learning methods fail to be successful and efficient. Various efficient learning methods have been proposed and implemented. We utilize various interactive tangible media, which include simulated thought experiments and physical media experiences. About 20 episodes in short film format are produced based on scenario written according to related issues selected. Physical media like interactive robots are introduced for attendees' stimulated experiences. We summarize our exciting experiments on interactive teaching experiences at Pusan National University which include on/off-line interactions, assignments, projects, and evaluations.

  • There are some ways to improve precision of conventional munitions by low-cost method. 2D Course Correction Munition(CCM) is one of those ways, which is a 155mm projectile integrated with 2D Guidance Fuze(GF) instead of conventional fuze. 2D GF can correct the projectile trajectory and minimize range and deflection errors from its aimpoint using canard control. In this paper 2D CCM system concept is introduced and its course correction capability is analyzed using PRODAS.

  • WCDMA system is 3rd generation wireless mobile system specified by 3GPP. In WCDMA downlink, two power control schemes are operated. One is inner loop power control operated in every slot. Another is outer loop power control based on one frame time. Base station (BS) can estimate proper transmission power by these two power control schemes. However, because each MS's transmission power makes a severe effect on BS's performance, BS cannot give excessive transmission power to the specific user. 3GPP defined Power Control Dynamic Range (PCDR) to guarantee proper BS's performance. In this paper, we propose Adaptive PCDR algorithm. By APCDR algorithm, Radio Network Controller (RNC) can estimate each MS's current state using received signal to interference ratio (SIR). APCDR algorithm changes MS's maximum code channel power based on frame. By proposed scheme, each MS can reduce wireless channel effect and endure outages in cell edge. Therefore, each MS can obtain better QoS. Simulation result indicate that APCDR algorithm show more attractive output than fixed PCDR algorithm.

  • As the need for switchover to FA and for rationalization increases in the industrial world, educational courses in schools are more and more taking up the subjects of electronic machines, mechatronics and systems, etc., subjects which are a fusion of the previous subjects of electricity, electronics and machines. At our junior college, a control engineering course was inaugurated in 1974 prior to any other schools that offered such courses. As automation progressed, the use of industrial robots spread rapidly. The year of 1980 is regarded as the first year that the use of industrial robots become widespread. Responding to the current requests, a one-year research course was added to the control engineering course in 1983. Moreover, a robot engineering course was newly established in 1984, in which mechatronics and industrial robotics were instructed intensively in high efficiency. As a teaching aid, an air robot system which was based particularly on the FMS model and possessed pattern recognition capabilities was completed in 1982. This system has been used since then as the nucleus for hands-on training with robots and systems. As more and more intelligent machines and artificial intelligence become widespread in industry, these subjects are taking on greater importance and greater sophistication in the education offered by this department. Educational institutions are seeking to provide facilities and curricula which will meet the technological needs of this age. Our college is not an institution at the graduate school level, but rather a school which is at the more practical junior college level. An outline of the facilities introduced at our school is presented and the results of utilizing it in industrial robot engineering education is reported.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of an evidence-based nursing (EBN) course using action learning-based team learning in undergraduate nursing students. Methods: A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design was employed. The participants who consented were 45 second-year nursing students (22 in the experimental, 23 in the control group) from a university in G-city, Korea. The intervention included lectures, practicals, team activities and reflection on overviewing EBN, formulating clinical questions, searching the evidence, and criticizing the research articles. At the beginning and the end of the 7-week EBN course, the participants completed self-reported questionnaires. Frequencies, $x^2$-test, t-test, and ANCOVA with the SPSS program 18.0, were used to analyze the data. Results: The experimental group showed significantly higher scores on EBN competency (F=25.80, p<001), information literacy (F=13.75, p=.001), and proactivity in problem solving (F=5.32, p=.026) than the control group. Conclusion: This study provides evidence that an EBN course improves undergraduate nursing students' EBN competencies, information literacy, and proactivity in problem solving. Team learning in EBN education can be an effective teaching strategy.

  • Course correction munition are a weapson system for precision attacks and are assembled by applying a ballistic control system to existing projectiles. The roll control system is a subsystem of the ballistic control system and is placed between the guidance and control units inside of the projectile, which undergoes a 5000g lateral acceleration. Thus, it is very important to design the system to endure this load. Many developed countries evaluate the performance and safety of course correction munitions' parts using live-fire gun launch tests or a soft recovery system. However, these methods are expensive and slow. Thus, in this study, we develop impact analysis model of the roll control system using CAE. We apply the code to simulate impact phenomenon and use Johnson-Cook material model for modeling the high strain rate effect on the materials. We also design bearings in detail to analyze their behavior and verify the reliability of CAE model through gas-gun impact tests of the roll control system.

  • Background: Electrophysiologic study accurately predicts the degree of degenerated motor axons but cannot give precise information on the type of injury that occurred in Bell's palsy. Because of these limitation for prognostic prediction in Bell's palsy, we evaluated divergence of electrophysiological time course for the purpose of presuming the type of injury in Bell's palsy. Methods: We did bilateral facial nerve conduction studies in 103 Bell's palsy patients, who visited to Han-Gang sacred heart hospital from 1998 to 2001. We compared the CMAP amplitude of disease site with that of normal site and suggested that decremental CMAP amplitude ratio (percentage) as a degree of denervation of affected facial nerve. Then we demonstrated the time course of denervation percentage. After defining normal range of CMAP amplitude difference from normal control group, we also evaluated if distinct time course of early minimal denervation is present. Results: Our results show that time course of the denervation in early stage of Bell's palsy reflect various injury type such as axonotmesis, neurotmesis or other unidentified type. We cannot identify the distinct time course of early minimal denervation. Conclusions: The time course as well as the maximal value of denervation are the best prognostic guidelines in Bell' s palsy. So repeated serial electrophysiologic test are inevitable to assess prognosis. As an another topic, early minimal denervation for prognostic prediction deserve to be evaluated as a future work up for prognostic prediction.
