  • Melamincyanurate(MC), as an non halogen flame retardant are used as the polymer and plastic materials. In this study, melamine and cyanuric acid were used for the synthesis of MC. The optimum condition of synthetic MC were controlled by different molar ratio of melamine to cyanuric acid. MC was modified by coupling reaction with four different agents. The influences of modified MC were based on the coupling agent types. Preparation methods are available to offer the prospect of improved morphology control deposit stability in polyol. The results reveal that glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane(GDS) has the best storage stability. The best properties were obtained with melamine and cyanuric acid from 1:1 molar ratio. Modification of MC through coupling agent can efficiently enhanced the deposit stability in polyol up to 30 %.

  • In this work, the adsorption characteristics and mechanical interfacial properties of treated silicas by silane coupling agents, such as, ${\gamma}$-methacryloxy propyl trimethoxy silane (MPS), ${\gamma}$-glycidoxy propyl trimethoxy silane (GPS), and ${\gamma}$-mercapto propyl trimethoxy silane (MCPS), were investigated. The equilibrium spreading pressure ($pi_e$), surface free energy ($gamma_s$ s/), and specific surface area ($S_{BET}$) were studied by the BET method with $N_2$/77 K adsorption. The developments of nonpolar functional groups of the silica surfaces treated by silane coupling agents led to the increase in the $S_{BET}$, $pi_e$, and $gamma_s$, resulting in the improved tearing energy ($G_{mc}$)of the silica/rubber composites. The composites treated by MPS showed the superior mechanical interfacial properties in these systems. These results explained by changing of crystalline size, dispersion, agglomerate, and surface functional group of silica/rubber composites.

  • The specialized and diversified synthetic and compounding technologies are used to meet the requirements for the advanced high performance tire tread materials with better balance of fuel economy(rolling resistance), safety(wet traction) and wear resistance. These techniques involve the methodology for the improvement of chemical and physical interaction between filler and the rubber matrix using coupling agents as well as a variety of chemically-modified solution SBRs. The research trends about the high performance functional SBRs and coupling agents which can interact with the surface of fillers and their working mechanism were investigated in the conventional carbon black-filled rubber and silica-filled SBR systems developed recently as "green tire".

  • Composite materials are created by combining two or more component to achieve desired properties which could not be obtained with the separate components. The use of reinforcing fillers, which can reduce material costs and improve certain properties, is increasing in thermoplastic polymer composites. Currently, various inorganic fillers such as talc, mica, clay, glass fiber and calcium carbonate are being incorporated into thermoplastic composites. Nevertheless, lignocellulose fibers have drawn attention due to their abundant availability, low cost and renewable nature. In recent, interest has grown in composites made from lignocellulose fiber in thermoplastic polymer matrices, particularly for low cost/high volume applications. In addition to high specific properties, lignocellulose fibers offer a number of benefits for lignocellulose fiber/thermoplastic polymer composites. These include low hardness, which minimize abrasion of the equipment during processing, relatively low density, biodegradability, and low cost on a unit-volume basis. In spite of the advantage mentioned above, the use of lignocellulose fibers in thermoplastic polymer composites has been plagued by difficulties in obtaining good dispersion and strong interfacial adhesion because lignocellulose fiber is hydrophilic and thermoplastic polymer is hydrophobic. The application of lignocellulose fibers as reinforcements in composite materials requires, just as for glass-fiber reinforced composites, a strong adhesion between the fiber and the matrix regardless of whether a traditional polymer matrix, a biodegradable polymer matrix or cement is used. Further this article gives a survey about physical and chemical treatment methods which improve the fiber matrix adhesion, their results and effects on the physical properties of composites. Coupling agents in lignocellulose fiber and polymer composites play a very important role in improving the compatibility and adhesion between polar lignocellulose fiber and non-polar polymeric matrices. In this article, we also review various kinds of coupling agent and interfacial mechanism or phenomena between lignocellulose fiber and thermoplastic polymer.

  • In order to improve the hydrophilic property of polymer films, coating solutions which showed a good hydrophilic property, were prepared by the sol-gel method. The coating solutions were prepared by adding different types of silane coupling agents (aminosilane, epoxysilane and acrylsilane) to a colloidal silica (15 nm diameter). The solutions prepared by adding aminosilane resulted in gels which could not be used as coating solutions. On the other hand, the coating solutions prepared by the addition of epoxysilane showed contact angles of $10{\sim}15^{\circ}$ and good hydrophilic property at R=0.10~0.15 (R=silane coupling agent/colloidal silica weight ratio). In addition, the coating solutions prepared by the addition of acrylsilane at R=0.03~0.07, exhibited contact angles of $5{\sim}10^{\circ}$, which means better hydrophilic property than aminosilane or epoxysilane.

  • In order to manufacture 2-layer flexible copper clad laminate (FCCL) s having the excellent performance high adhesion properties between copper foil and polyimide film are required. Silane coupling agents with specific functional groups as an adhesion promoter are generally used to enhance the adhesion. In our study, we synthesized a novel silane coupling agent for increasing the adhesive property between copper layer and polyimide layer. The surface morphology of rolled copper foil, as a function of the concentrations of the coated silane coupling agent, was fully characterized. As fabricated 2-layer FCCL, we observed that adhesive properties were changed by the surface morphology and we confirmed that the novel silane coupling agent affects adhesive properties in FCCL with two types of poly (amic acid)s.

  • There are many kinds of multi-agent frameworks which support the high-level knowledge representation languages for providing intelligence to their agents. But, the agent programming interfaces of the frameworks require to use some general-purpose programming languages as well as tile knowledge representation languages. In general, knowledge representation languages and general-purpose programming languages are different in their levels and data representation models. The differences can make the problems about tile coupling of the elements which are necessary for developing intelligent agents. This paper describes a new type of intelligent agent shell INAS(INtelligent Agent Shell) version 2 which has developed to cope with the problems. Unlike the previous agent frameworks, INAS supports a high-level integrated agent building language for building intelligent agents by itself. Therefore, the development of intelligent agents by using INAS version 2 does not suffer from the problems of the previous agent frameworks. Through the development of several intelligent agents, we experienced that the agent building language of INAS version 2 could reduce the difficulties of developing intelligent agents.

  • The surface modification of microfibriled cellulose (MFC) was carried out through the hydrolysis-condensation reaction using (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APS) and 3-glycidyloxypropyltriethoxysilane (GPS) and then the modified cellulose was compounded with bio-degradable poly(lactic acid) (PLA). Also, pristine MFC was compounded with PLA as a control groups. The confirmation of surface modification for the pristine MFC was characterized by FT-IR and SEM/EDX. The thermal and mechanical properties of the PLA/MFC composites depended on the content of MFC and the type of silane coupling agents. From the thermal, morphological and mechanical behaviors of the PLA/MFC composites, it was found that GPS-MFC was more successful to improve the interface adhesion between PLA matrix and the surface of MFC than that of APS-MFC.

  • Thyroid peroxidase is a biochemical target protein for the antithyroid drugs. Ethanol extracts from one hundred and thirty seven natural products were screened for the inhibition of thyroid peroxidase activity. Thyroid peroxidase was purified from porcine thyroids, and the inhibition of peroxidase activity was evaluated using guaiacol oxidation (C-C coupling) assay. Twenty one natural products expressed a remarkable inhibition (>50%) of peroxidase activity at $330{\mu\textrm{g}}$ solid weight/m. The 50% inhibitory concentration ($IC_{50}$) of 70% ethanol extract from six potent natural products ranged from 3.1 to $31.2{\;}{\mu\textrm{g}}$ solid weight/m, in contrast to the range ($0.33~0.54{\;}{\mu\textrm{g}}/ml$) of $IC_{50}$ values fro catechin and epigallocatechin gallate as positive controls. Noteworthy, the extract of Camellia taliensis showed irreversible inhibition of the enzyme. It is suggested that extract from some natural products such as Camellia taliensis, Rheum undulatum or Euphorbia perinensis, exhibiting a potent inhibition of peroxidase activity, may be developed as sources of potent antithyroid agents.
