A novel compact circular polarization operation of the microstrip antenna with four-slits and T-slits is proposed. The mechanism for compact size antenna is investigated with the behavior of the currents on the radiating patch. The equivalent surface current path due to the slits is lengthened, reducing the resonant frequency at a fixed patch size. The proposed compact CP design can have an antenna size reduction of about 33 ∼ 45% as compared to the conventional microstrip antenna. Details of the experimental and measured results are presented and analysed.

Recently the design of SoCs(System-on-Chips) in which TCM is embedded for high speed operation increases rapidly. In this paper, a parallel test structure for eDRAM-based TCM embedded in SoCs is proposed. In the presented technique, the MUT (Memory Under Test) is changed to parallel structure and it increases testability of MUT with boundary scan chains. The eDRAM is designed in structure for parallel test so that it can be tested for each modules. Dynamic test can be performed based on input-output data. The proposed techniques are verified their performance by circuits simulation.
Side-by-side offloading operations are widely utilized in engineering practice. The hydrodynamic interactions between two vessels play a crucial role in safe operation. This study focuses on the coupled effects between two floating bodies positioned side-by-side as a shuttle tanker-FPSO (floating production, storage and offloading) system. Several wave directions with different side-by-side distances are studied in order to obtain the variation tendency of the horizontal hydrodynamic coefficients, motion responses and mean drift forces. It is obtained that the coupled hydrodynamics between two vessels is evidently distinguished from the single body case with shielding and exaggerating effects, especially for sway and yaw directions. The resonance frequency and the peak amplitude are closely related with side-by-side separation distance. In addition, the horizontal hydrodynamics of the shuttle tanker is more susceptible to coupled effects in beam waves. It is suggested to expand the gap distance reasonably in order to reduce the coupled drift forces effectively. Attention should also be paid to the second peaks caused by hydrodynamic coupling. Since the horizontal mean drift forces are the most mainly concerned forces to be counteracted in dynamic positioning (DP) system and mooring system, prudent prediction is beneficial in saving consumed power of DP system and reducing tension of mooring lines.

Due to ever-growing advancements in computers and relatively easy access to them, many efforts have been made to develop high-fidelity, high-performance, multi-physics tools, which play a crucial role in the design and operation of nuclear reactors. For this purpose in this study, the neutronic Monte Carlo and thermal-hydraulic sub-channel codes entitled MCNP and COBRA-EN, respectively, were applied for external coupling with each other. The coupled code was validated by code-to-code comparison with the internal couplings between MCNP5 and SUBCHANFLOW as well as MCNP6 and CTF. The simulation results of all code systems were in good agreement with each other. Then, as the second problem, the core of the VVER-1000 v446 reactor was simulated by the MCNP4C/COBRA-EN coupled code to measure the capability of the developed code to calculate the neutronic and thermohydraulic parameters of real and industrial cases. The simulation results of VVER-1000 core were compared with FSAR and another numerical solution of this benchmark. The obtained results showed that the ability of the MCNP4C/COBRA-EN code for estimating the neutronic and thermohydraulic parameters was very satisfactory.

The hot rolling process ranks the highest position for production in steel making process. The hot strip manufacturing processes consist of the reheating furnace, roughing and finishing mill and coiler. The reheating furnace heats the slab. The roughing and finishing mill produce the hot strip from slab. The hot strip quality mainly depends on finishing mill, which consists of 4-high 7 stands. The looper is installed between stands and is used for controlling the strip tension by the looper angle for better material flow. It is difficult to control the strip tension with the coupled looper system from interaction between the looper angle and strip tension. Too much deviation of strip tension severely affects the poor width quality of the hot strip. It is important to control simultaneously both the looper angle and strip tension with each of their target values. This paper proposes the fuzzy tension control, which is developed to minimize the width deviation of the hot strip by maintaining the proper strip tension between stands and to achieve the stable operation of the coupled looper system. The fuzzy tension control performance is compared with the conventional PID control by experimental results.
In this study, thermally coupled distillation system and conventional two-column process were investigated for extractive distillation. The two processes were simulated and optimized using Aspen plus. Objective function for the optimization was energy consumption and optimization results to reduce energy consumption were used to get guidelines for design and operation for the two extractive distillation processes. Comparison of these two processes showed that thermally coupled distillation system provided better energy efficiency and lower capital cost than conventional distillation system.

Recently, utilization of building foundations as ground-coupled heat exchangers has attracted much attention because they reduce the cost and enhance the heat transfer. The objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of energy-slab ground-coupled heat exchanger installed in a commercial building. In order to demonstrate the energy transfer characteristics of the energy-slab, experiments were conducted from October 2010 to September 2011. The 1-year measurement results showed that the mean EWTs of brine returning from the energy-slab were $9.6^{\circ}C$ in heating season and $24.9^{\circ}C$ in cooling season, which were in a range of design target temperatures. In addition, the geothermal heat pump system with the energy-slab showed on-off operation according to the setting temperatures of secondary fluid in water storage tank. The results also showed that the energy-slab extracted heat of 198.6 kW from the ground and injected heat of 318.9 kW to the ground, respectively.

The resistance-capacitance (RC) delay of signals through interconnection materials becomes a big hurdle for high speed operation of semiconductors which contain multi-layer interconnections in smaller scales with higher integration density. Low-k materials are applied to the inter-metal dielectric (IMD) materials in order to overcome the RC delay. Relaxation continuum (RCT) model that includes neutral-species transport model have developed to model the etching process in a capacitively coupled plasma (CCP) device. We present the parametric study of the modeling results of a two-frequency capacitively coupled plasma (2f-CCP) with $N_2/H_2$ gas mixture that is known as promising one for organic low-k materials etching. For the etching of low-k materials by $N_2/H_2$ plasma, N and H atoms have a big influence on the materials. Moreover the distributions of excited neutral species influence the plasma density and profile. We include the neutral transport model as well as plasma one in the calculation. The plasma and neutrals are calculated self-consistently by iterating the simulation of both species till a spatio-temporal steady state profile could be obtained.

An improved version of current-regulated delta modulator (CRDM) is investigated for the output cunent control of v voltage-source inverters that have transformer-coupled series resonant load and are operated at the resonant frequency. Conventional CRDM has not only CUlTent offset problem but also transformer flux saturation problem when i it is applied to induction heating systems that have transformel-coupled loads. To cope with these problems, the effect of flux saturation is analysed, and simple method to av이d the problem is proposed. And integral type of CRDM is a adopted to remove the cunent offset. The boundaries of integrator gain for stable operation is calculated using the c concept of sliding mode controL The validity of proposed strategy is vel퍼ed through simulations and prototype e experiments.
This paper investigates the design of coupled inductor for minimum inductor current ripple in rapid traction battery charger systems. Based on the general circuit model of coupled inductor together with the operating principles of dc-dc converter, the relationship between the ripple size of inductor current and the coupling factor is derived under the different duty ratio. The optimal coupling factor which corresponds to a minimum inductor ripple current becomes -1, i.e. a complete inverse coupling without leakage inductance, as the steady-state duty ratio operating point approaches 0.5. In an opposite manner, the optimal coupling factor value of zero, i.e. zero mutual inductance, is required when the steady-state duty ratio operating point approaches either zero or one. Coupled inductors having optimal coupling factor can minimize the ripple current of inductor and battery current resulting in a reliable and efficient operation of battery chargers.
