Fabrication and forming of metallic sandwich plates with bi-directional corrugated inner structure (두 방향 주름구조를 내부구조로 하는 금속 샌드위치 판재의 제작 및 성형)

  • Metallic sandwich plates with hi-directional inner structure are important new structures for forming applications. Bi-directional corrugated inner structures with less than 25% of relative density are fabricated by piecewise sectional forming process and then bonded with two face sheets by adhesive bonding. Drawing and U-bending experiments have performed and shown that the radius of curvature of sandwich plates is 75mm and sandwich plates are bended 90 degrees without collapse of inner structures. Bi-directional inner structures are suggested to improve formability of sandwich plates for bending and drawing.

  • Steel-concrete-steel (SCS) sandwich composite structure with corrugated-strip connectors (CSC) has the potential to be used in buildings and offshore structures. In this structure, CSCs are used to bond steel face plates and concrete. To overcome executive problems, in the proposed system by the authors, shear connectors are one end welded as double skin composites. Hence, this system double skin with corrugated-strip connectors (DSCS) is named. In this paper, finite element model (FEM) of push-out test was presented for the basic component of DSCS. ABAQUS/Explicit solver in ABAQUS was used due to the geometrical complexity of the model, especially in the interaction of the shear connectors with concrete. In order that the explicit analysis has a quasi-static behavior with a proper approximation, the kinetic energy (ALLKE) did not exceed 5% to 10% of the internal energy (ALLIE) using mass-scaling. The FE analysis (FEA) was validated against those from the push-out tests in the previous work of the authors published in this journal. By comparing load-slip curves and failure modes, FEMs with suitable analysis speed were consistent with test results.

Front-to-Back Ratio Improvement of a High-Power Horn Antenna (고출력 혼 안테나의 후엽감쇄 연구)

  • Herein, a horn antenna that has the maximum back lobe reduction characteristic using a corrugated structure at 1.57 GHz for a high-power microwave system is proposed. The back-lobe characteristics of the proposed antenna was optimized using simulation as the number of corrugated structures increase, and the three-staged corrugated structure was designed. Consequently, the front-to-back ratio(FBR) of the fabricated antenna is 47.2 dB, which is improved by 23.7 dB based on that of the basic horn antenna, i.e., 23.47 dB.

  • In the corrugated steel panels used for railway vehicles, sound insulation performance is significantly deteriorated by local resonance effect. In this study, as a countermeasure, polyurethane foam is filled in the corrugated steel panel and glass wool layer is inserted in the layered floor panel, and then improvement effect of the sound insulation performance is experimentally estimated. Based on ASTM E2249-02, intensity transmission loss is measured and estimated on the corrugated panel and floor structure. The aim of the study is to identify how the foam filling and inserting glass wool layer improve the sound insulation performance of the train body structure in aspect of the weight increment.

Effect of Relative Humidity and Box Structure on Box Compression Strength (상대습도 및 상자구조에 따른 과실포장용 골판지상자의 압축강도 분석)

  • In order to determine safety factor of corrugated fiberboard boxes for agricultural products, relationship with effect of relative humidity and structure of box types must be defined. The results obtained from the study were summarized as follows; 1. Results show a detrimental effect on bursting strength of corrugated boards with increasing relative humidity of environment. 2. Compression strength of corrugated boards were decreased rapidly after the relative humidity was over 70 percent. 3. Compression strength of corrugated board boxes were greatly depending on the box types. Folder type showed the best performance at higher humidity environment while bliss type was the worst. 4. Further studies are needed in order to expect box compression strength in real distribution environment.

Buckling Analysis of Corrugated Board using Finite Element Method (유한요소법에 의한 Corrugated Board의 휨 발란스 해석)

  • The top-to-bottom compression strength of corrugated board box is the most important mode of loading during it's no, and it depends largely on the edgewise compression strength of the corrugated board in the cross-machine direction and to a considerable extent on the flexural stiffness in both principal directions (CD; cross-machine direction, MD; machine direction) of the corrugated board. Corrugated board is a sandwich structure with an orthotropic property. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the principal design parameters for board combination of corrugated board from the viewpoint of bending strength through the finite element analysis [FEA] fur the various corrugated board. In general, the flexural stiffness [FS] in the MD was 2-3 times larger than that in the CD, and the effect of liner for the FS of corrugated board was much bigger than that of corrugating medium. The flexural stiffness index [FSI] was high when the stiffness of liner was in the order of inner, outer, and middle liner in double-wall corrugated board [DW], and the effect of the stiffness arrangement or itself reinforcement of corrugating medium on the FSI was not high. In single-wall corrugated board [SW] with DW. the variation of FSI with itself stiffness reinforcement of liner was much bigger than that with stiffness arrangement of liner. The highest FSI was at the ratio of about 2:1:2 for basis weight distribution of outer, middle, and inner liner if the stiffness of liner and total basis weight of corrugated board were equal in DW Secondarily. basis weight was in the order of inner, outer, and middle liner. However, the variation of FSI with basis weight distribution between liner and corrugating medium was much bigger than that with itself basis weight distribution ratio of liner and corrugating medium respectively in both DW and SW. md the FSI was high as more total basis weight was divided into liner. These phenomena fur board combination of corrugated board based on the FEA were well verified by experimental investigation.

Approximate Analysis of Corrugated Steel Culverts (파형강판 암거의 근사해석)

  • This paper proposes the force equations(thrust, moment) of corrugated steel culverts through the finite element method. The conditions for maximum thrust and maximum moment are determined from the analysis of soil-structure interaction during the three construction stages, such as backfill to the crown, backfill to the soil cover, and live loads. The proposed form of thrust and moment equations are deduced from the analysis of behaviour and the application of Castigliano's second theorem for the semi-arch structure. Finally, the coefficients used in the proposed equations are determined from a large number of analysis for the various geometries and the soil-structure relative stiffness under the conditions of maximum thrust and maximum moment.

  • In this paper, a very efficient CAD algorithm is proposedd where rhodes formulae combined with distributed lowpass prototype filter in order to design the corrugated waveguide harmonic rejection filters accurately. The proposed algorithm resolves effectively the problem of proximity effect without any optimiation or iterative design process by using the internally convexed corrugated structure. A 13-section tapered corrugated lowpass filter has been designed by the proposed algorithm and fabricated. The experimental results are in good agreement with the calculated results.

  • As a trapezoidal corrugated steel plate has the sufficient stiffness out of plane direction without shear stiffener or thick plate, a use in the web of bridge structure is on the increase. However, there are no domestic design guides for shear buckling strength of corrugated plates. Therefore, foreign design specifications are analyzed about application methods and a numerical parametric study is used to get the relationship of the shear strength and geometric boundary conditions for corrugated plates. Elastic buckling finite element analysis is executed through eigenvalue analysis using the eight nodes five freedoms thin shell element. Parameters such as the width and height of panel and the thickness and height of web, are determined considering the factors to influence on the buckling of corrugated plate. Accuracy of shear buckling analysis is evaluated with theory of foreign buckling equations.

Equivalent Continuum Modeling Methods for Flat Corrugated Panels (평판형 주름판넬에 대한 등가 연속체 모델링기법)

  • The corrugated panels are the prime candidate structure for the floor, roof and wall of Korean high speed train. The equivalent continuum modeling approach panels can be used for the efficient design and evaluation of their structural characteristics. The equivalent continuum models, derived from the true complex corrugated panels, should have the same structural behavior as the original structures have. This paper briefly reviews three representative continuum modeling methods: the static analysis method and two plate-models based on modal analysis methods (MAM). These methods are evaluated through some numerical examples by comparing the natural frequencies and static deflections. It is observed that the plate-model based on Rayleigh-Ritz method seems to provide the best results when used in conjunction with the cantilever-type boundary conditions. The equivalent elastic constants of various corrugated panels, depending on the changes in their configurations, are tabulated for efficient use in structural design.
