환경차폐코팅용 이터븀 실리케이트의 제조와 물성평가 (Fabrication and Characterization of Ytterbium Silicates for Environmental Barrier Coating Applications)

  • Environmental barrier coatings(EBCs) are applied to the SiC/SiC ceramic matrix composites(CMCs) in order to protect CMCs from being corroded with water vapor by combustion gas in gas turbine engines. Ytterbium silicates, such as ytterbium monosilicate and ytterbium disilicate, are ones of the candidate materials for EBCs due to their excellent resistance to water vapor corrosion as well as thermal-expansion match with SiC. In this study, ytterbium silicates are fabricated with 2-step solid-state synthesis targeting ytterbium disilicate. After synthesizing ytterbium monosilicate, the mixtures of ytterbium monosilicate and SiO2 are heat-treated and densified by using pressureless sintering or hot pressing with a variety of heating conditions. The phase formation, thermal expansion, and oxidation behavior are examined with fabricated specimens. The final densified bodies are found to be composites between ytterbium monosilicate and ytterbium disilicate with different ratios, which results in 4.43 to 6.72×10-6/K range of coefficients of thermal expansion. The probability of these ytterbium silicates for EBC applications is also discussed.

  • Yb2Si2O7 has a coefficient of thermal expansion similar to that of the base material of SiC and has excellent corrosion resistance in a high-temperature oxidizing atmosphere including water vapor, so it is being studied as one of the materials for environmental barrier coatings (EBCs). In this study, Yb2Si2O7 powder granule is deposited using atmospheric plasma spraying (APS) with different Ar/He ratios. Phase formation and microstructural characteristics are investigated with the coated specimens. In the coating layer, the crystallinity decreased, and the amorphous content increased from an increase in the ratio of Ar. In addition, the various types of particles involved by local volatilization of Si according to the Ar/He ratios were identified.

Electroless Ni Plating on PC to Improve Adhesion by DBD Plasma Treatment

  • The adhesion strength of metal plating on PC was studied. In this study, surface was treated by chemical agents or DBD(dielectric barrier discharge) plasma to imporve the adhesion. The surface roughness, contact angle, gloss of plating and adhesive strength were measured. Adhesion strengths of Ni plating on prepared PC by NaOH and KOH solution were $12.3kgf/cm^2$ and $7.5kgf/cm^2$, respectively. The highest adhesion strength was obtained in the plasma treated one, $27.8kgf/cm^2$.

  • 방사성폐기물 저장용기에 생긴 결함으로부터의 핵종유출을 분석하였다. 결함은 부식이나 균열으로부터 기인하며 저장용기의 재질이나 부식 부산물층을 관통하게 된다. 본 연구는 결함을 통한 핵종의 이동을 다루었으며 결함이 생기게 되는 방법에 관해서는 고려하지 않았다. 다수의 작은 결함으로부터의 핵종유출이 중요하며 저장용기가 없다고 가정한 폐기물고화체로부터의 핵종유출과 거의 비슷함을 보여준다. 비록 부분적으로 파손된 저장용기일지라도 핵종유출에 대하여서 장기간에 걸쳐 중요한 방벽의 역할을 하지만, 작은 결함의 수가 많아지면 방벽으로서의 효과가 줄어들게 된다.

  • 여기서는 5% NaCl 염수분무 환경에 노출된 Al-Mg 다층 코팅막의 부식 거동이 부식생성물 분석을 통하여 평가되었다. 동일 두께의 코팅막이라고 할지라도 Al과 Mg의 코팅층을 다층으로 할수록 내식성이 우수한 경향으로 나타났다. 이때 SEM, EDS 및 XRD 평가 기법을 통하여, 내식성에 기여하는 주요 부식생성물은 수산화알루미늄($Al(OH)_3$)이 지배적인 것으로 확인 되었다. 코팅막이 다층인 경우 차폐(barrier) 특성을 가진 수산화알루미늄이 상대적으로 치밀하게 표면을 피복됨으로써 내식성을 오래도록 유지해 주는 것으로 사료된다.

Effect of Lateral Diffusion on Hydrogen Permeation Measurement in Thick Steel Specimens

  • A finite element analysis is proposed to study the effect of specimen dimensions on lateral diffusion of hydrogen during hydrogen permeation flux measurements. The error of measurement on thick specimens because of 1D diffusion approximation may be as much as 70%. A critical condition for accurate measurements is to designate the area of hydrogen monitoring/exit surface smaller than the area of hydrogen charging/entry surface. For thin to medium thickness specimens (ratio of thickness to specimen radius of 5:10 and below), the charging surface should be maximized and the monitoring surface should be minimized. In case of relatively thick specimens (ratio of thickness to specimen radius above of 5:10), use of a hydrogen-diffusion barrier on the specimen boundaries is recommended. It would completely eliminate lateral losses of hydrogen, but cannot eliminate the deviation towards 2D diffusion near the side edges. In such a case, the charging surface should be maximized and the monitoring surface should be as closer in dimension as the charging surface. A regression analysis was carried out and an analytical relationship between the maximum measurement error and the specimen dimensions is proposed.

  • 제철공장의 소결대차 스틸바의 내열성, 내마모성, 내부식성 등의 성질을 향상시키기 위하여 용사코팅을 적용한 연구가 진행되었다. 약 $700^{\circ}C$의 고온환경에서 내열, 내마모, 부식 등에 노출되어 있는 스틸의 표면에 $Al_2O_3$, $Cr_2O_3$, WC 코팅을 적용하여 국부적으로 고온내마모성, 내식성, 내열성, 내열충격성 등을 향상시킴으로써 기존 제강공정에서 사용되는 스틸바의 수명을 향상시켰다. 스틸바에 적용한 금속용사 코팅층에 대하여 고온내마모시험, 열충격시험, 내부식시험을 수행하였다. 코팅층의 물리적, 화학적, 기계적 특성이 코팅이 안된 재료에 비해 매우 우수하였다.

  • 0.1 M 중탄산소듐 용액에서 납전극부식에 대한 로소니아, 감초뿌리 및 카로브 추출물수용액의 부식방지작용에 대한것을 정전류극성방법을 사용해 연구하였다. 이들 물질들의 부식방지작용을 지적해주는 것으로 이들 물질들이 존재할 때 부식속도가 감소하는 것이 발견되었다. 부식방지효율은 추출물농도가 증가하면 증가한다. 이들 추출물의 부식방지작용은 납표면에 이들 추출물이 흡착되어 물질 및 하전이동의 장벽을 만들어 나타내는 것으로 설명되었다. 이들 추출물의 납표면에 흡착은 자발적으로 일어나며, Freundlich 등온흡착을 따르는 것으로 발견되었다. 또한, 변전위양극분극법을 사용해 이들 추출물은 염소를 포함한 용액에서 납의 움푹패이게 하는 부식으로부터 잘 보호해주는 것이 발견되었다.

PEO 전류밀도 조건에 따른 알루미늄도금 강재상 산화코팅막의 특성 (Characteristics of Coating Films on Hot-Dipped Aluminized Steel Formed by Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation Process at Different Current Densities)

  • Plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO) has attracted attention as a surface treatment which has high wear resistance and corrosion resistance. PEO is generally considered as cost-effective, environmentally friendly and superior in terms of coating performance. Most of studies about the PEO processes have been applied to light metals such as Al and Mg. Because the strength of Al and Mg is weaker than that of steel, there is a limit to the application. In this study, PEO process was used to form oxide coatings on Hot dipped aluminized(HDA) steel and the characteristics of the coating film according to the PEO current density were studied. The morphology was observed by SEM and component was analyzed by using EDS. The corrosion behaviors of PEO coating films were estimated by exposing salt spray test at 5 wt.% NaCl solution and measuring polarization curves in deaerated 3 wt.% NaCl solution. With the increase of PEO process current density, the pore size of the coating surface and the thickness of coating increased. It was confirmed that no Fe component was present on the coating surface. PEO coating films obviously showed good corrosion resistance compared with HDA. It is considered that the PEO coating acts as a barrier to protect the base material from external factors causing corrosion.

ALD-Al2O3 보호층이 적용된 CrAlSiN 코팅막의 내부식성 특성에 관한 연구 (Effect of ALD-Al2O3 Passivation Layer on the Corrosion Properties of CrAlSiN Coatings)

  • Highly corrosion resistance performance of CrAlSiN coatings were obtained by applying ultrathin $Al_2O_3$ thin films using atomic layer deposition (ALD) method. CrAlSiN coatings were prepared on Cr adhesion layer/SUS304 substrates by a hybrid coating system of arc ion plating and high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS) method. And, ultrathin $Al_2O_3$ passivation layer was deposited on the CrAlSiN/Cr adhesion layer/SUS304 sample to protect CrAlSiN coatings by encapsulating the whole surface defects of coating using ALD. Here, the high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF-STEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDX) analysis revealed that the ALD $Al_2O_3$ thin films uniformly covered the inner and outer surface of CrAlSiN coatings. Also, the potentiodynamic and potentiostatic polarization test revealed that the corrosion protection properties of CrAlSiN coatings/Cr/SUS304 sample was greatly improved by ALD encapsulation with 50 nm-thick $Al_2O_3$ thin films, which implies that ALD-$Al_2O_3$ passivation layer can be used as an effect barrier layer of corrosion.
