  • This study is intended to develop a scale to measure familism. Construction of this scale is based on a sample of 448 married males and females living in Seoul. This scale to measure familism is developed by employing a type of item analysis method called correlation analysis. 13 items are selected by correlation analysis, and these are found statistically significant even by analysis based on the criterion of internal consistency. Validity of this scale is evidenced by logical validation, jury opinion and independent criteria. Reliability estimate assessed by Cronbach's alpha coefficients is .759. This scale comprises the following 4 aspects of familism: 1) Support for filial piety and ancestor worship. 2) Integration of individual activities into family ones for achievement of family objectives. 3) Obligation to support individual family members and give them financial assistance when needed, on the assumption that properties such as land, money, etc. belong to family. 4) Mutual aid in psychological and social aspects between parents and married children, and married children and their married siblings. It is concluded that this familism scale represents an improvement on other measure of familism, but that a number of methodological issues remain to be further studied.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between shoulder gradient, range of motion of the neck, and subjective pain level of the potential risk group of smart-phone addiction. Methods : The subjects of this study were 90 women's who had potential risk of smart-phone addiction. VAS was used to measure subjectively pain intensity. Global Postural System was used to measure forward head posture. CROM was used to measure flexion, extension, lateral flexion of cervical range of motion. Results : The results of this study showed that was significant positive correlation between the both shoulder gradient, and cervical range of motion(p<.05). Statistically significant negative correlation between the VAS and left lateral flexion(p<.05). Conclusions : The difference between the gradient of both shoulders increased with the use of smart-phone addiction, and the cervical left lateral flexion decreased as the pain increased. This suggests that recognition on decrease of using smart phone and postural correction is necessary.

  • This paper presents an effective shape image recognition method using the correlation based on 4-dimensional histogram. The histogram-based correlation is accurately applied to express the similarity by comparing the positions of a corresponding dimension between the images, which is calculated by considering 4 directions of the shape image. The correlation measure by using the normalized cross-correlation is also applied to obtain the robust recognition to the geometrical variations such as shape, position, size, and rotation. The proposed method has been applied to the problem for recognizing the 8 shape images of 64*64 pixels and the 30 shape images of 256*256 pixels. The experimental results show that the proposed method has a superior recognition performance that appears the image characters well.

  • Recently, Carlsson, Full\acute{e}$r and Majlender [1] presented the concept of possibilitic correlation representing an average degree of interaction between marginal distribution of a joint possibility distribution as compared to their respective dispersions. They also formulated the weak and strong forms of the possibilistic Cauchy-Schwarz inequality. In this paper, we define a new probability measure. Then the weak and strong forms of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality are immediate consequence of probabilistic Cauchy-Schwarz inequality with respect to the new probability measure.

  • In this paper voice quality of normal speech is qualitatively classified by five components of breathy, creaky, rough, nasal, and thin/thick voice. To determine whether a correlation exists between a subjective measure of voice and an objective measure of voice, each voice is perceptually evaluated using the 1/2/3 scale by speech processing specialists and acoustically analyzed using speech analysis tools such as the Praat, MDVP, and VoiceSauce. The speech parameters include features related to speech source and vocal tract filter. Statistical analysis uses a two-independent-samples non-parametric test. Experimental results show that statistical analysis identified a significant correlation between the speech feature parameters and the components of voice quality.

  • This study examines the response of users' feelings from a gender perspective toward interactive video mobile learning (IVML). An IVML prototype was developed for the Android platform allowing users to install and make use of the app for m-learning purposes. This study aims to measure the level of feelings toward the IVML prototype and examine the differences in gender perspectives, identify the most responsive feelings between male, and female users as prominent feelings and measure the correlation between user-friendly feeling traits as an independent variable in accordance with gender attributes. The feelings response could then be extracted from the user experience, user interface, and human-computer interaction based on gender perspectives using the Kansei engineering approach as the measurement method. The statistical results demonstrated the different emotional reactions from a male and female perspective toward the IVML prototype may or may not have a correlation with the user-friendly trait, perhaps having a similar emotional response from one to another.

  • In the paper, a symbolic construction is considered to define generalized Cantor-like sets. Lower and upper bounds for the correlation dimension of the sets with a regular condition are obtained with respect to a probability Borel measure. Especially, for some special cases of the sets, the exact formulas of the correlation dimension are established and we show that the correlation dimension and the Hausdorff dimension of some of them are the same. Finally, we find a condition which guarantees the positive correlation dimension of the generalized Cantor-like sets.

  • In this paper, we suggested the tolerance limits of FAR(Fully Anechoic Room) using correlation factor between OATS(Open area Test Site) to measure EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) and FAR to measure EMS(Electromagnetic Susceptibility). FAR Project(SMT4-CT96-2133), CISPR/A/665/DTR, and CISPR A/665/DTR documents are analyzed and theoretical correlation factor based on the documents and theoretical equations is drawn. To obtain the experimental correlation factor, EUT(Equipment Under Test) is fabricated as well as measured at the 10 m distance OATS and in the 3 m distance FAR. Also, to suggest the tolerance limits of EUT with multi sources, radiation theory for electric and magnetic dipoles is programmed. We drew the correlation factor for EUT with multi sources through the programs. As the tolerance limits of FAR is newly defined, It can be used alternative test site for OATS to measure EMI, efficiently.

  • This paper presents an efficient image registration method by measuring the similarity, which is based on multi-dimensional intensity fluctuation. Multi-dimensional intensity which considers 4 directions of the image, is applied to reflect more properties in similarity decision. And an intensity fluctuation is also applied to measure comprehensively the similarity by considering a change in brightness between the adjacent pixels of image. The normalized cross-correlation(NCC) is calculated by considering an intensity fluctuation to each of 4 directions. The 5 correlation coefficients based on the NCC have been used to measure the registration, which are total NCC, the arithmetical mean and a simple product on the correlation coefficient of each direction and on the normalized correlation coefficient by the maximum NCC, respectively. The proposed method has been applied to the problem for registrating the 22 face images of 243*243 pixels and the 9 person images of 500*500 pixels, respectively. The experimental results show that the proposed method has a superior registration performance that appears the image properties well. Especially, the arithmetical mean on the correlation coefficient of each direction is the best registration measure.
